Music Monday — What are you listening to? (Sunset Edition 🌆)

cover image source: Giphy

Alrighty! Y'all knew it was coming. Last week we had our Sunrise Edition to cover those early morning AM tunes, and this week, we turn our eyes tune our ears to those songs that we like to listen to as the sun sets. And you can take that however you wanna... if you had specific music that you like to listen to literally as the sun sets then more power to ya, share it! But, it's also cool to loosely interpret this as night-time music. Just better not share any morning music — haha, I'm kidding, as always share what you wanna listen to. To quote Captain Barbarossa "They're more what you'd call guidelines, than actual rules." 🌅

A vaporware style sunset... A couple holds hands standing between palm trees on an island in the background, we can see their dark silhouettes against a beautiful red/orange sunset. The sun is massive and has lines streaking through it that make it look highly stylized. The ocean in the foreground reflects the colors of the beautiful sun and sunset.

How we do

In this weekly series, folks can chime in and drop links to whatever it is they've been listening to recently + browse others' suggestions. You can follow the suggested genre if you'd like, but don't feel confined to it; you're free to suggest whatever you wanna. 🙌

If you're interested in having other discussions about music, consider following the aptly named #music discussions organization.

What would you add to your sunset playlist? Note: you can embed a link to your song using the following syntax {% embed https://... %}. This should work for most common platforms!

Looking forward to listening to y'all's suggestions! 🎶

One that I continually have returned to for the past few years is The Midnight and in particular, the album Monsters.

I feel like they're kind of a blend of synthwave and 80's pop rock... sometimes they remind me a bit of Daft Punk.

Here's a good one for y'all that I think would be a nice tune to pop on as you're driving home from a party at night. It keeps some of the party spirit but is pretty dang chill:

If you want something even more mellow and enjoy instrumentals, I recommend checking out the following:

Oh, @michaeltharrington , I've been inspired by this "Music Monday" ritual post and decided to create a little something to listen to nature and ambient sounds while working. It's nothing but a React site with simultaneously playable sound cards. For anyone who wants to checkout --->> lekkermelodies.com/ and LMK what you guys think.

Wooooaaaa! This is sweet, Mitchell. Nicely done! 🙌

I really like how you can play the different cards at the same time and really build up a little atmosphere. I got birds chirping and a fire going... feel like I just crawled out of a tent and I've rekindled my fire, haha. This is seriously cool!

My most used app/website is myNoise and your React site has a similar vibe. myNoise is one of a handful of apps out there that I've donated money to the creator — I wrote him an email telling him about how much I love myNoise and he actually responded. He was super grateful and kind!

Anyway, I like what ya made here! If you continue on with it, consider looking at myNoise for inspiration!

Hey Michael!

Thank you so much for checking out lekkermelodies.com and for the enthusiastic feedback! I'm thrilled to hear that you enjoyed the experience of creating your own atmospheric soundscape. The image of you by a campfire with birds chirping is exactly the vibe I was hoping for – sounds like a perfect work environment!

I really appreciate the tip about myNoise. It's awesome that you've not only found inspiration there but also reached out to the creator. That personal touch and connection with users make such a difference. I'll definitely explore myNoise more deeply and draw inspiration from it as I continue to work on lekkermelodies.com.

Your positive words mean a lot, and I'm excited to enhance and expand on the site. If you have any specific features or sounds you'd like to see added, feel free to let me know. Here's to creating the perfect work soundtrack! 🥂

One of my dreams is to travel around the USA listening to some music, like Sunset! And one of that song would be by Armandinho (One of the great Brazilian artists)

Although the following song is not from Chris Lunno's channel that I encouragely recommend, it is an example of the things he does.

Oooo yeah, good one, Jaime! I've definitely seen his DJ sets and love'em. I really like seeing all the different places he ends up.

Speaking of DJs playing in public, you ever seen SUAT? His DJ-ing chops are pretty good, but really his videos are just a lotta fun. It's so fun watching him rock the portable setup and seeing folks' reactions when he comes walking up dressed absolutely ridiculously with 2 turntables strapped to him. Here's one for ya!

Excellent tune, Ralph! Appreciate ya suggesting it.

In general, Pink Floyd is a great soundtrack for the nighttime. Then again, also quite nice for the daytime. Pink Floyd any time and all the time, haha!

Haha!! YESS!!!

I don't go into Christmas mode until December 1st, but once that page on the calendar flips, I'll be right there with ya.

Expect a Christmas version of Music Monday to make an appearance very soon. And if ya wanna, you can check out last year's edition here.

Lastly, lofi music is the bomb. And lofi Christmas sounds like a hit to me!
