Music Monday — What are you listening to? (Soft Edition)

cover image source: Giphy

Last week, we got heavy, and this week and I wanna take 180° turn and go soft. What are your favorite tender ballads and gentle instrumentals? What tunes do you turn to to soothe your mind, body, and soul? Let's give a listen to those softer tunes today. As always, take this prompt however you wanna... I'm looking forward to tuning into y'all's suggestions!

How we do

In this weekly series, folks can chime in and drop links to whatever it is they've been listening to recently + browse others suggestions. You can follow the suggested genre if you'd like, but don't feel confined to it; you're free to suggest whatever you wanna. 🙌

If you're interested in having other discussions about music, consider following the aptly named #music discussions organization.

Let the soothing sounds ease your mind! Note: you can embed a link to your song using the following syntax {% embed https://... %}. This should work for most common platforms!

Looking forward to listening to y'all's suggestions! 🎶

So first off, I love the Grateful Dead. 💚

As far as their relaxing tunes go, I'll often pop on classics like "Bird Song", "Eyes of the World", or "Ripple".

Not too long ago, I saw a performance by Bob Weir and Wolf Bros on NPR Tiny Desk. Bob Weir was a founding member of The Grateful Dead and has continued to perform their music for decades... Dead & Company (the most recent lineup of The Grateful Dead) actually just wrapped up their farewell tour. Anywho, in this performance, they're joined by Mikaela Davis on harp who is just incredible... they breathe new life into both "Bird Song" and "Ripple", feel free to skip ahead to those songs using this timestamp if you'd like or watch the whole thing below. Hope ya enjoy!

I don't know if it fits exactly like Soft, but when I listen to it it relaxes me a little and I think it's good: youtube.com/watch?v=iBAs3TGIz7M

I'm late to the Taylor Swift party and I don't listen to lots of her stuff, but I gotta say, she knows how to write a dang song. Gotta respect it!

For focusing with a soft house background music, Christian Löffler is one of my favorites

Awww yeah, that sounds relaxing. Spanish guitar is one of my faves...

I actually play a little guitar and like to think that I'm decently good... then I hear Spanish guitar and it makes me realize how much I still have to learn. 😅 That said, it's inspiring and does make me wanna pick up a guitar.

I got something fun for ya... I recently saw these brothers called Hermanos Gutiérrez on Tiny Desk who both play guitar. Give this performance a listen:

This type of playing almost feels a little western/tex mex and maybe doesn't fall into the type of Spanish guitar ya have in mind, but I think it's really rad. 🎸
