Music Monday — What are you listening to? (Soundtrack Edition)

cover image source: Giphy

This week, we're talking soundtracks. There are so many iconic movies out there with good soundtracks! Whether you're into classical film scores by the likes of John Williams OR ya like a hodge podge of curated tunes à la Wes Anderson OR ya dig synth-heavy, 80's soundscapes from John Carpenter OR you like it when a specific musical artist is given full control over a soundtrack like Daft Punk did with Tron... whatever soundtracks you're into, I wanna hear em!

How we do

In this weekly series, folks can chime in and drop links to whatever it is they've been listening to recently + browse others suggestions. You can follow the suggested genre if you'd like, but don't feel confined to it; you're free to suggest whatever you wanna. 🙌

If you're interested in having other discussions about music, consider following the aptly named #music discussions organization.

Alright, let's hear y'all's favorite soundtracks. Note: you can embed a link to your song using the following syntax {% embed https://... %}. This should work for most common platforms!

Looking forward to listening to y'all's suggestions! 🎶

Oldie, hasn't been written for the movie specifically, but plays a vital part in Friends with Benefits :-)

Ooooo heck yeah! I love this song.

I used to work at TGI Fridays (a franchise restaurant in the states) and this always ended up on the jukebox at closing time. I feel like that song was likely playing all across America as restaurants came to a close, haha.

I have not seen the movie though. Cool to hear that this plays such a special part in it!

Wow, nice to hear it played a role in your story too! There are TGI Fridays in Stockholm too, so I guess they are doing quite well :-)

The movie is a romcom with Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis and you can pretty much guess the plot by the name :-P I like it, but it's somewhat silly and might not be everyone's taste :-)

Haha, that's cool to hear that TGI Fridays is over there. Had no idea!

And haha, no judgement from me on Friends with Benefits... a good, silly romcom sounds like a fun time. 🙌

LOL I used to work at a coffee shop and we did this same thing to try and subtly tell folks it was time to leave at the end of the day

Oooo yeah, good list here! The Conan soundtrack is so bombastic and badass... I never would've thought to listen to this one, but now that I am, I'm really digging it. 🙌

I really like how Season 4 of Stranger Things made "Running Up That Hill" such an integral part of the story... not to mention, it brought Kate Bush back into vogue which is always a good thing.

And the awesomely strange original music video:

Not to mention, Big Boi from Outkast gushing over Kate Bush and "Running Up That Hill":

Oooo yeah, video game soundtracks are a cool place to take this prompt.

I really really dig the Stardew Valley Soundtrack. "Cloud Country" is so peaceful & chill.

On that note, I always enjoyed the Minecraft soundtrack... so ethereal and minimalistic.

I'm gonna tune into Hellblade in a little bit!
