Music Monday — What are you listening to? (Dubstep Edition)

cover image source: Giphy

For this one, I've chosen a genre that isn't really my cup of tea, but hey, I'm always open to having my mind changed. 🙂 I'm no expert, and while Dubstep may have hit other parts of the world faster, I think it really came into vogue stateside closer to the 2010s... either that, or maybe I just became aware of it while I was in college. Skrillex and Bassnectar are the names that come to mind for me. And the sounds that I think of are big wobbly basslines + wicked buildups and drops that give way to these unhinged lazer-like noises along with other wild sound effects and samples. Even though I admitted it's not my favorite genre, it can be pretty awesome pump-up music. Anyway, I'd love to hear your favorite tunes from the genre and what your take on dubstep is. As always, feel free to step outside the confines of the selected genre and share whatever you wanna. Let's do this! 🙌

A name tag is on the screen that says "Hello, my name is" and the letters S,K,R,I,L,L,E,X are all written out individually as if someone is signing their name on the name tag. It also looks stylistically written like the Skrillex logo. with the "ILL" looking like three red lines.

How we do

In this weekly series, folks can chime in and drop links to whatever it is they've been listening to recently + browse others' suggestions. You can follow the suggested genre if you'd like, but don't feel confined to it; you're free to suggest whatever you wanna. 🙌

If you're interested in having other discussions about music, consider following the aptly named #music discussions organization.

Dubstep on into the comments and drop me a link to whatever you wanna share! 🌽🧀 Note: you can embed a link to your song using the following syntax {% embed https://... %}. This should work for most common platforms!

Looking forward to listening to y'all's suggestions! 🎶

My music taste is a little bit more eccentric though tbh. However if you are able to open your mind a bit you’ll enjoy it. Now you might be surprised when I say this but I actually like listening to this:

If you don’t mind deep diving into the magical word of adult swim bumps, Chillhop and lofi. But I listen to a little bit of everything to be honest depends on my mood.

Ooooo awesome! I'm just now getting to your suggestions and I really dig'em.

First off, Mario Kart and Nintendo music is classic. 🤌 You might enjoy watching this video and learning about the Nintendo Jazz scene. It's a thing — a cool, odd thing! 😀

I'd never heard Jason Lewis, but just getting into it and this totally sounds like something I'd dig. Gonna come back to this one in a minute after checking out your other suggestions...

Daaaaaang, these Adult Swim Bumps are super legit. Saving this one for later! The Chillhop station looks great too. Thanks for hooking me up with all these lofi hip hop beats! This is definitely right up my alley. 😎
