I would say age doesn't matter. I hope Mr 10-yrs older than me (oops let that slip), comes back to respond on here, that is a great question, and I wonder about the concerns.
The career options are out there. Experience in the field, coupled with a curious willingness to learn new things, while applying the tried-and-true foundations, is a great combination. My career up to this point has been a simple formula.
X + Y = Z
Where X is what you bring to the table, the things you've leared, those foundational truths. Y is the new stuff, things based on other things, perhaps similar to X but maybe just slightly different, tweaked, or has a new vernacular or terminology. Z is the future, the great combination, the stuff business and enterprise are looking for.
Noone has all of the X or all of the Y.
