The Discussion of the Week
It's my pleasure to highlight Anita's (@anitaolsen) self-reflective discussion thread "Are You Ashamed of Your Old Code?"
Anita just recently joined up with DEV, but is already initiating some really thoughtful discussions to get folks talking about their coding origin stories and things they've worked on in the past. Take a look at Anita's profile and you'll notice this common thread throughout their first 3 posts.
Something that I really like about Anita's most recent post is that it encourages folks to open up and talk about their mistakes. In an online world of folks constantly talking down to and one-upping each other, humility is refreshing! I'd much rather see a thread of folks opening up about problems they had & blunders they learned from over folks who seem to know everything and constantly self-promote.
And another thing, it's good for newbies to be able to look through a thread like this and see that other folks out there also started from humble beginnings. It's encouraging and shows them how others have been able to grow. 🌱
As with most discussions, the fun really happens in the comments. I didn't pluck out any particular ones to feature this time around, but if you hop into the post, you can see for yourself. And of course, share your thoughts in the thread while you're at it!

The DEV Community is particularly special because of the kind, thoughtful, helpful, and entertaining discussions happening between community members. As such, we want to encourage folks to participate in discussions and reward those who are initiating or taking part in conversations across the community. After all, a community is made possible by the people interacting inside it.
