👮Trusted Users, should we improve the visibility of this feature/concept?👮

This might be more suitable to post on Forem GitHub Discussion, but here might give better visibility to viewers.

For context, the item below showed up in my notification about a week ago. I supposed this is a new feature in an attempt to improve the user's news feed experience as the DEV team has been focused on that recently.
New notification item?

As you can see, there are only 2 icons in the notification:👎and 🧐. The first one is self-explanatory, while 🧐 is more cryptic, at least to an infrequent emoji users like myself. Assumed that was a positive choice, I picked 🧐 and left it there. Also, as a side note, that emoji option may randomly failed to be chosen.

Error updating reaction

Anyway, I didn't think more about the choice until today when I notice a new option appears in my account.

Moderator Center

I thought it is some sort of mistake because I have never been notified about this, so I did some look-up and was led to this page.

Trusted User Guide

Well, that explains it, but interestingly, I have never heard or been notified about this before, although I'm aware of tag moderators' existence. Correct me if I'm wrong, but there doesn't seem to be a reference to this on the front page navbar, and this feature has existed since 2020. That said, it is public and searchable via Google though.

dev.to navbar

Back to the emoji issue, there is a section mentioning that in the trusted user guide.

Emoji meaning

Ouch!! Therefore, I go ahead and reverse my choice. With that said, I think there can be certain improvements to this user moderation feature.

  1. Promote the concept of Trusted Users to increase its visibility.
  2. Notify users before promoting them to a Trusted Users.
  3. Provide a public list of Trusted Users to increase transparency, or maybe a badge to differentiate them.
  4. Add a thumbs-up option in a notification item, and maybe a modal after 🧐 is chosen.

Here is an example, but from the Cloudflare forum: https://community.cloudflare.com/t/recognizing-mvp-fritex/411703

It is an honor to be chosen as a Trusted User by the DEV team. I have not tried out the moderation features so these are only things on top of my head. I will do a follow-up when new things arise.

Now, what do you think about this matter? Is there any suggestion to further improve this feature?

Maybe you missed an email about being made a trusted user? I'm one (as well as a tag moderator). When I became one, Michael sent me an email explaining what it is, etc.

That was my first thought too, but nothing showed up in my mailbox. However, I changed my mail service about a month ago so maybe some rules block that specific email, but the audit log was also empty. That said, I can receive DEV notification without any trouble.

Maybe someone from DEV will see your post and have the answer.

I actually came close to doing the same as you with that emoji with the monocle on one of those notifications. I luckily remembered that it is labeled as "flag to admins" in the moderator center for a post.
