Well, I've been active for the last couple of months but I never introduced myself so here it goes. 😄

Hey, everyone!

My name is Vitor and I've been close to computers since a copy of "Sesame Street: Get Set to Learn!" found its way to southeast Brazil. I started making websites with Adobe Dreamweaver 10 years ago and never really stopped.

I mean, I never stopped the website making part, I'm glad that I dropped Dreamweaver.

I'm a DEV member since May, 2019 but only became an active user last June. I'm having a great time since and I hope that I'm making this community better as much as it makes me better!

Hey everyone, new joiner here, I've been coding quite a while and am currently starting to get react, after jobbing in traditional PHP/MySQL web development for a bit longer than I should have :)

Coming from Print design to web dev is one thing, tough enough especially fullstack, but when frontend design dissolves into UX/UI or frontend dev, you gotta thank the Commodore 64 programming BASIC from a book days! Yeah I'm that old.

I've been primarily medical communications from the outset but have done a lot of other stuff like:
eCommerce (Magento, Shopify, Woo, OSCommerce, Prestashop, Actinic, etc etc)
WordPress (up to frameworks/plugins).

I also do pro audio and engineer/master stuff for labels.

Anyway just got over a hurdle thanks to this place and joined. Will be sure to share anything useful.

Cheers!

Sean Antony Brunton

Hello I'm Sean

Well, might as well introduce myself.

I wouldn't consider myself a beginner, however I am not a professional programmer. I enjoy to learn about programming as a hobby. I have a deep passion for mathematics and physics in general. naturally I enjoy Lisp based dialects (focusing mainly on Information System development with Clojure & ClojureScript) purely because it is the purest and most concurrent form of programming ever invented. I do like to better grasp the nature of how information works, and I have a huge curiosity into the working of the human mind, and intelligence in general (I enjoy learning about Psychology as well).

From this curiosity, and one from working with electronic and electrical engineering related work, I started messing around with computers about 17 years ago now. One would say I am a bit of "bubble boy" and a late bloomer when it comes to computer science. None the less, today it is my sun shine in life, and why I like to code privately. Maybe one day I would like to work in a real programming job, but I am a super lazy dude and I am rather good at fixing and installing turnkey UPS systems for the family business, working for family comes with perks and life is easier. Not all bells and whistles though! It's pretty tough to make money in the pandemic!

I would consider myself ignorant from the programming world, but no stranger to a good old hack. Yes I leaned how to hack with a soldering iron, a solder sucker, and a broken PCB from a UPS, before I even knew what a terminal, interpreter or REPL was! So yeah. Sometimes I get very eccentric, I was mentored by a genius of an electrical engineer who drilled '3' into me, and was probably the biggest Nikola Tesla fan I knew of! So I will try and refrain from doing that. Sometimes I can't help it when I blog, so it does manage to find its way out of me, at times. I was also taught that a big problem, require patience, deep thought and thought experiment. So forgive me if I get eccentric at times.

I have never been formally educated at a tertiary level (or high school for that matter). I actually dropped out in my 10th grade. So I am not accustomed to the norm of things. I have always taught myself. I have a learning disability (I am autistic), and have annoying dyslexia! I learn about ten billion times slower than most people. Anyway I hope this community can help me improve myself. There is always room for improvement I say! I have created a number of my own little apps, including one I wrote in PHP (mixed with some JavaScript for pretty little HTML & CSS enhancement) which would help with a calculation of a turnkey UPS installation, the app does everything from power calculation, to the battery-powered back up time of the machine, thanks to wonderful arithmetic, the algorithms can be adjusted to work with any UPS spec, and the actual discharging specs of a battery, used in a UPS system, to calculate a desired back up time, accommodating a requested load obviously.

I 'mapped' the algorithms to a MySQL database of my own company's range of products, which in turn facilitates another search algorithm, which helps the user find the best suited application for his or hers UPS installation request / quote. It is a bold attempt to regulate my local marketplace in my own country. I since decided that a LiSp will make the app work a whole lot better, and will stop me from sabotaging my own code. Which is one thing that annoyed me about Object Orientated programming, which I find behaves the same as my own scattered brain! I've also written a script in Python that manipulate an SNMP adapter, to interface with a headless Linux-based OS.

All this work is still somewhat messy, and only has basic functionality. I get impatient with front end stuff. LoL. I write a lot of Python code and enjoy mucking around with notebook editors, to study scientific data which catches my interest. My brain is still very scattered though, so hopefully this community can help me with that. Yep that me!

Hello there, I'm Al!
I've just joined this site and would like to introduce myself!

I love Music and Computers! and always have done. I got my first taste of coding when I was about 14 and a Geography teacher at the time helped several of us nerdy kids have fun with Basic.

Since then I worked as a pro musician and started building sites about 12 years ago with Dreamweaver. I gave up Dreamweaver and I'm self taught HTML,CSS(SASS) & JavaScript
I've never looked back!!

Since then I studied Design Communication and now see myself as a UX designer who also completes the front end development of projects as I work for myself and end up working on a whole project from start to finish!

Thats helped me to start losing hair on my head, but the challenge is fun and I get inspiration from being able to make products that will do something good for people.

Anyway, thats probably bored you all now!!.

Hi folks 👋🏾

This is Jefferson here. Originally from Colombia, now living in the kiwi lands —New Zealand. I’ve started my way into programming by learning DOS, remember feeling like a hacker writing stuff on the black screen.

However, at some point got redirected to Psychology and History. Moving to NZ opened the door to rediscover my passions, which led me into coding once again. For over two years, I taught myself some html, css and Js.

During my “solo” journey I discovered the world of Bootcamps and I did one. It was a life changing experience. I learnt so much in so little time. The truth is: I learnt how to learn.

I’ve been somewhat following the community for quite a bit reading really good articles —in other words, I’ve been watching from the shadows 😂.

Hi, I'm Stefano, I'm a self-taught web designer and developer from Italy.
Some years ago, more or less when I was 35 (like a old florentine guy would have said In the middle of the journey of our life), I started to reboot my professional life through coding.

I'm a happy openSUSE and KDE user, currently as my main activity I create websites by developing Wordpress custom themes, but I recently put my effort to learn the Jamstack ecosystem and fell in love with Vue, Nuxt and component based development.

I love swimming (I've been in Masters Swimming for years, it is a competitive but non-professional category), cinema (I've been part of the organization of a local Film Festival), history, science-fiction, and, in what is probably a stereotypical trait for Italians, spending time eating and drinking in company of good friends.

I stumbled always more often in articles from Dev.to lately, so I finally decided to signup.

Hey all!

My name is Jaice de Celis and I am an aspiring Front End Engineer currently living in Princeton, NJ. I have been seriously studying for about three months now and I am hoping to transition into the tech space in the neat future and relocate to Houston or Austin Texas following my transition.

What I love about creating software products with code is the freedom that it introduces as a developer. There are an unlimited amount of ways that one problem can be solved and a seemingly unlimited amount of available technology to tackle each problem.

This diversity in skill set makes the development community incredibly accepting and eager to help which is something I have always been in search of.

Previously a sales expert and owner of a sales driven company, I have spent my entire professional career managing people and talking to people and I am excited to have the opportunity to create products that can benefit people in the career that I know and love.

I am happy to be a part of this community and I look forward to making contributions as I see fit. In the meantime I am going to freeload and take advantage of all of the great free content that you guys put out everyday.

I have always been fond of technology and love design and all sorts of visual animation.

I'm an absolute noob and didn't even know what exactly html is a few months back, despite knowing how to use all sorts of applications.

I'm working my way through the freecodecamp curriculum atm and got "hooked" ;) by react. I really like the concept and currently trying to build a music app with tone.js.

Hope to find others here working with the web Audio API and Libraries like React or Vue.

Hi Dev 👋🏻

Long time Medium subscriber here - found this platform after listening to SEDaily’s podcast on Forem last week.

I have been playing around with next.js static generation recently and so the podcast really interested me taking about how everything is as static as possible served from the edge - and boy when I first fired up dev.to I was not disappointed! It is lightning!

That alone pretty much had me sold!

In any case, I’ve been off and on “developing” since my early teens. Dabbled in HTML/css back in the early-mid 2000s but never really became any “good” at it. I tried learning JavaScript at one point when AJAX was first becoming popular and I just “didn’t get it”. At all.

Later on I tried tackling PHP, even bought PHP 5 For Dummies, made it around half way through that book and gave up.

Didn’t touch coding for about 13 years and now here I am, co-founded a software company last year (I was supposed to bring the “business” side of business partner), but 18 months later and I am full time coding - mostly in PHP and JavaScript (and Typescript) of all things!

I think the community around devs and online learning especially has exploded since I dabbled in my teen years, and I feel like every day there’s a whole new world to learn about (and not just languages). Either that or I just wasn’t very good at searching back when Ask Jeeves and Yahoo were my primary search engines.

Anyway, great to find this platform and I’m really looking forward to even more worlds opening up before me.

I work as a senior engineer with a company that is using PHP, Golang, and C# so I can found here many interesting articles - also my colleague gave me a recommendation in 2019 to check dev.to :D
Yesterday’s night I’ve published my first ”article” about error handling in PHP applications. :)
Using dev.to is also an opoortunity for me to improve my weak English skills :D

I am a fake. Im no DEV...but I hope to play one on TV..or my imagination one day!
I use github to star repos i use alot like oh my zsh or different dotfiles. I have been a PC nerd since AOL was how we connected to the WWW.
I was part of a IRC group that served pirated warez in private rooms. My first program was called a phisher. i wont explain. My second., and last was a text fader for AOL 4.0 called Darth Phader. Both written in VB which I learned from books.
I was in the Army at that time, retired and stayed in the tech zone. Mostly gaming.
I am retired and disabled and became bored with my laptops and gamed to pass the time on Android. One day I was watching YouTube and Chris Titus led me to DistroWatch where I began 13 months of distro jumping, usually breaking builds.
6 months ago I installed Manjaro XFCE. I hated it at first because I had always been a copy and paste linux user. i avoided the AUR as I didn't get it. Well today I have gonr from makepkg to writing out everything i do, using ZSH without a plugin manager and actively seeking my first language to learn!
I love terminals and am still trying to get mine perfect as far as looks.powerlevel10k just isn't for me but I will get it one day..
I've got several Playgrounds on github starred and am thinking python, node, rust are probably where I'd like to start. I keep getting sidetracked with things like opencv.
I spent a month getting a figlet banner on my term just right so you know vid2ascii rocked my world!

Hello All 😁

My name is Josh, I’m a software development engineer working for a small(ish) niche engineering company that manufactures bespoke measurement machines for the beverage industry. All the software is written in house by four of us.

I am self taught, started with python, doing some little projects with the raspberry pi, then moved to the arduino platform doing some development work with stepper motor drivers.....then my ‘love’ for C based languages came alive. For the past year or so I’ve been pretty focused on C# however utilising C++ wherever performance is critical.

My main aim is to expand my knowledge on C++ over the next 6 months, bringing that comfort level up a notch.

Look forward to be part of the community 👍

My name's Rohit, from India, been programming for about 5 years but I have only gotten a bit serious about it a few months back, and ever since then, I am learning as much as I can. I am actually a final year Electronics Engineering student but I am sure I want to work as a web developer or something related to programming.

So I have been using Flutter for a few months, learning bit by bit, it's quite fun. And on other side, I am learning web development mainly using ReactJS, and exploring few database options and stuff. Prior to that, I have a bit of basic experience with C++ and Python.

I still got an year to graduate, so I am hoping to develop my skills as much as I can and land a good developer job.

I knew this platform for a long time but I really hesitated to join it. I don't know why. Might be the shy nature of mine. But now, when I finally joined, here goes my introduction. 😄

Hey, everyone!
My name is Nilesh and I've been into computers from a long time, but coding was out of my league at that time. I started coding in 2019 before I joined by college to pursue my bachelors in Computer Science Engineering. From then, I have learnt a lot. I have command in some topics and I really like to share my knowledge forward to other people.

In this span of one year, I learnt basic Web Dev (HTML/CSS/Javascript/Node.js/Express) and programming languages like C, Java and basic python too. Currently, I am learning React Native and React (moving towards MERN) and DS-Algo in Java. Also, I have a keen interest in Cyber Security field. So, I have a good hand over some of the linux distros (mainly Kali and Ubuntu).

I am glad to be the part of this community that gave me so much to learn and still going on.

P.s : Sorry if I went too long 😅
