I didn't realize how hard creating a smooth non-tangent curve is in fusion 360 until I had a 3D project entailing the creation of a complex smooth curved edge. That's how I came across spline.
I have always assumed fusion 360 is straight forward: you need a curve, there is an icon for that, you need a hole, you can do that in minutes. However, it is not as easy as it seems when working on an actual project. The realization has made me subscribe to a channel on 360 by 'Product Design Online' so as not to spent other countless hours trying to smoothen out a curve.
So, what is a spline in fusion 360??
Spline define control points that provide a way of drawing complex smooth curves in a 3D design.
The spline control can be activated from the sketch drop down menu.
There are 2 types of spline: fit point spline and control spine.
Fit point spline allows the creation of a non-smooth curve based on tangent of specified points.
The control spline allows a smooth complex curve from specified points. This type of spline is smoother than the fit point.
