When I started my career at professional development, real servers came from Sun, or IBM, or maybe Silicon Graphics if you were cool.
Much has changed since (and mostly for the better! forget nostalgia), but a lot of the hype around big data and scale didn't quite materialize yet. I think we can do some things about it - here's my take at it.
