🤯 10 [Insightful] Programming Wisdom Quotes!

Twitter Follow

So this is a bit of a fun response to @inhuofficial's (10 Tips For Clean DEV Articles!) - a fun post critiquing my @cleancodestudio article 10 Tips For Clean Code for its structure and accessibility.

To be clear, the tips in the article are great, this is purely a post pointing out that I read and appreciated @inhuofficial's accessibility tips (and am down to use them).

There is no hate or malice here, I - like @inhuofficial - am just mischievous (as most of you know) and the article had loads of accessibility advice given by a passionate spokesperson for digital accessibility...so you know I'm going to have to respond with my own article mimicking the structure of the article that critiqued my own.

Anyway, it is silly with an important message, please treat it as such!

Here is my list of 10 [Insightful] Programming Wisdom Quotes! (I would suggest going to read the article first or read them at the same time, otherwise some of these points used in this article and pointed out in @inhuofficial's article may not make sense!)

The Quotes

1 John Carmack Quote:

"Sometimes the elegant implementation is a function. Not a
method. Not a class. Not a framework. Just a function."

2 Doug Linder Quote:

"A good programmer is someone who always looks both ways before crossing a one-way street."

3 Mikko Hypponen Quote:

_"Rarely is anyone thanked for the work they did to prevent the disaster that didn't happen."

4 Jeff Atwood Quote:

_"Hell isn't other people's code. Hell is your own code from 3 years ago."

5 Rick Hickey Quote:

"Programming is not about typing, it's about thinking"

6 Unknown Quote:

"Weeks of coding can save you hours of planning"

7 Ron Jefferies Quote:

"Always implement things when you actually need them, never when you just foresee that you need them."

8 Nicoll Hunt Quote:

"The first step of any project is to grossly underestimate its complexity and difficulty"

9 Richard Pattis Quote:

"When debugging, novices insert corrective code; experts remove defective code."

10 Filipe Fortes Quote:

"Debugging is like being the detective in a crime movie where you are also the murderer."

The End

Obviously this may all be a bit of fun but the quotes are all valid and important (I might have had a quote or two in there that simply shares how projects typically go for programmers that aren't necessarily helpful and more so simply state truths, but "8 valid quotes for programmers with a filler quote or two" wouldn't make for a good title - now would it? 🤣).

Advice for everyone: put some effort in to formatting your articles properly, it makes them easier to read and also has the added bonus of including everyone in the conversation!

And yes, for those of you who read the original article, I did even steal the cover image style and design, if you are going to copy someone's work do it right!🤣 Technically, I just stole it back - I used that cover photo on my 10 Clean Code Tips article first and it's a damn good looking cover photo! Feel free to steal it for yourself!

Bonus Quote 11

Always have a bonus quote, people seem to love that!

Bonus Clean Code Studio Quote:

"Follow inhuofficial on Twitter, I have as they put some insightful tweets out there!

Oh and I have some followers as well (although I only started tweeting daily this past week), so you could always follow @CleanCodeStudio if you fancy it, my knowledge sharing will continue there."

Hope this article made you smile and I hope you are having a great week!

Bloody brilliant! Great quote choices, each and every one. That Doug Linder quote got me, glad to know I'm not the only one that always looks both ways on one-way streets.

Car vs. me = No more me...

I ain't trying to go out like that, one way street or otherwise
