Hello everyone and welcome back to Season 2 of Front End News. I hope you will find the following topics both interesting and useful.

Google announces Web Vitals

Web Vitals

Google brought us Web Vitals, a set of metrics designed to qualify the user experience quality on any website. The core set contains three metrics that apply to all web pages, should be measured by all site owners, and will be available across all Google tools. They are Largest Contentful Paint (LCP), First Input Delay (FID), and Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS). More details are available in the official announcement:

Firefox 76 is live

Firefox 76

Firefox 76 update went out to all users this week. Most of the changes are happening under the hood, such as the introduction of support for Audio Worklets or improvements to handling Intl in JavaScript. There are also a lot of improvements to the Developer Tools: better JavaScript debugging, improved network inspection and we take a peek at the upcoming CSS Compatibility Panel. In the links below you can check both the highlights and the release notes for this update:

That's all there is in this edition. I'm doing some experiments with this second season, such as going live on Twitch every Saturday as I pick the topics for each week (go to twitch.tv/frontendnexus at 20:00 EEST). At the moment there is no YouTube video version yet, but I'm looking into doing another live stream on Sundays where we go diving into the selected topics. So you might want to subscribe to the YouTube channel at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCgACtqiDmnSaskDIBsK54ww. Your support is highly appreciated.

Have a great and productive week, keep yourselves safe and I will see you next time!
