Personally, I'd enjoy a 2 monitor setup. Webdev always has me using split screen, but I feel 2 monitors would help keep me focused.
I also want to buy a mechanical keyboard build kit so I can build one for myself. I already have one, but I wouldn't hate having a second one.
I love that my mouse has 2 extra buttons that navigate to the previous or next page which I feel aides navigation. I also wouldn't mind a proper deskmat.
I also know this isn't exactly setup, but touch typing is a goal for me.
I am saving up for all of this.
Which mechanical keyboad would you recommend?
You can build your own at a decent price if you're into that. You just have to know when to stop otherwise it will be expensive by the time you add all of the things mechanocal keyboard fans call "essential". I always look on drop.com as well because they occasionally have good deals. Anything that's easy to take apart and uses standard parts is good. Qmk is a big plus. If you want prebuilt I've heard great things about keychron boards but I haven't tried them myself.
Building my own keyboard...hmm? How to lol I've always been interested in building my own PC as well but honestly I am more worried about messing something up then anything
There's plenty of tutorials and such online.
Normally you'd order a PCB and solder on components and keys, and then usually you can buy an enclosure to go with it.
I know someone who just 3d prints their enclosures and just directly soldered everything together sans PCB. Seems like a bit much to me but I bet they hardly spent anything on it. It is a rabbit hole though and an expensive hobby at that. But if you like tinkering it can be very rewarding to get your keyboard 'just right'.
It's not too hard as long as you get some practice soldering. You can practice on soldering wires together and then pins onto PCB prototyping boards. You might have a nearby maker space that would be willing to help (and you'll be able to use the good tools without going bankrupt).

I'm still searching around myself.
But my current one is a TKL redragon K552 Kumara that I got at a comic convention. Uses Outemu reds which I now realise are rather clicky. I want to get one on the more silent side of things.
Once I find the one I'm looking for, I will let you know.

I used to go for really great multi-monitor setups, but now I actually go laptop-only and optimize my workflow for comfort in a variety of settings.
As pandemic restrictions have eased, I've been really into getting out and working from different environments, so rather than having a different flow for different circumstances, I've focused on optimizing my process with a more minimal setup.

My dream work setup would be as minimalistic as possible. I would want it to be only designed purely for the sole purpose of allowing me to produce high quality piece of work, or as Cal Newport puts it, Deep Work and not for anything else - i.e. gaming, entertainment, etc.
I absolutely adore minimalist setups when I see them on Instagram but also know that I am not the type that would be able to keep it up

I do want to get around to building my own with a customized top in order to get a specific length I want, but that would be later down the road.
I am using just a 13 inch laptop. Later when I get I job in tech I would go for an ultra wide display and a mechanical keyboard.
Controversial opinion: I don't love multi monitor setups. They always feel like a second class citizen no matter the os, and I fond myself wasting time trying to perfect them.
My dream setup is pretty close to what I have currently: a good split keyboard and an ultrawide monitor. I use virtual desktops a fair bit when I need more room, but usually ultrawide has enough horizontal space for two or three windows. What I'm missing is a good audio interface and DAC+amp setup. I also wouldn't mind making my keyboard lower profile.
Not controversial at all. It's way easier to focus with a single screen. Far too much faffing around with multiple monitors
