Hi all. My name is Franco and I'm from Italy. I love coding, and not by chance I have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science. My biggest passion is web development. I love HTML, CSS, JavaScript and web performance. Every time I build something for the web I ask myself: «How can I made it better and faster?».
Hey Franco Nice to meet you, I am new here and was just noticing that you had a CS degree. I am in the process of getting my CS degree but I am just starting out so I am really new to things, unfortunately. If you don't mind me asking, do you think the degree has helped your success in the industry a lot or not so much?
Hi Ryan, nice to meet you! Getting the degree has helped me a lot, since I was able to learn very difficult things that are fundamental for the field of CS. If you have any other question doesn't hesitate to ask!
Welcome!
Thanks Jesse, looking forward to meeting people.
Some days ago I published an article that try to answer the question if it does make sense to take a degree in a Computer Science major. I wrote down my experience and points of view. Ryan, I warmly invite you to read it! francoscarpa.com/articles/degree/
Good mantra to have 🙂
Yes. I love refactoring my code to ensure it's as DRY as it can be. Performance optimisation is key. :)
I just want to let people have the possibility to enjoy the best experince possible.
Welcome Franco!
Hello, Franco! 👋
Welcome, Franco!
Hey Franco, what resource would you recommend most for learning about web performance?
Check out web.dev, Google’s Why Performance Matters and Jeremy Wagner’s Web Performance in Action.
As soon as I come back home, I’ll show you my personal resources ;)
Hi Franco
Hello Franco how are u. See your Post. U are a great web developer but keep tight for it, it will take some time to make perfect into web designing.
Join me I will help u :)
I'm not absolutely perfect, I've so, so much to learn :) Coding is a never ending journey.
Welcome!!
Hello
Welcome, Franco!
Hello, nice to meet you!
Hi Franco nice to meet you. I'm super excited about new experiences.
welcome my big brother
The secret to making it faster?
Code it in assembly!
No, code it in machine language: 0011011010111011... 😁
Benvenuto, Franco!
Given you are a web developer, might I take the privilege of introducing you to WebAssembly? :)
Given your mantra, here's a blog post that might be worth a read: cliffle.com/blog/bare-metal-wasm/
Happy hacking!
Thanks, Ganesh! Well, I read something about WebAssembly some months ago and I found it really interesting. However, I’ve never deepen my knowledge about it. I’ll surely read the article you linked! You can absolutely introduce me to WebAssembly. 😊
Djikstra did nothing wrong.
Nice to meet you Franco!
Hello! :D
Hi Franco! is awesome that you love coding too, hope you will get better and better in web development. one question, do you know backend too?. Greetings from Venezuela.
Hi, Orlando! No, I’m sorry, I have knowledge only about front-end web development. Have a nice day!
Hi all! At this point, I might have already bored everyone hehehe. As many of devs here, I am going through an intense learning process.
I am 31 years old and decided to give up my job to really focus on conversion and become a front-end developer asap.
I am not quite sure how I came across Dev.to but I know I just fell in love of it. I felt like this was the right social network to be. Since it is not just for questions nor to show off projects or look for a job like Linkedin. It feels like a secure place to learn and share within the developer's community. A really nice and welcoming place. Thank you :D
Hi Nadine, I am new to the community and I just wanted to say I can fully relate to the struggle and how difficult it can be to learn new concepts and ideas. I am 37 myself and after 20 years of house, painting decided I wanted to go to school and pursue my original adolescent passion, computers. So just wanted to say I can relate and wanted to say thanks for sharing.
It is so brave to take this decision after so many years focused in a profession! Congratulations for taking the step forward. I am here to cheer you up too hehe
Welcome, Nadine! Your commitment is inspiring, and I can't wait to see where it takes you!
Also, I've been meaning to ask you about the hashtag in your Twitter bio, #CodeGrils. 😄
Grills have the right to code too! If they had hands... Hahahhaa
I will correct it right away thank you!
I didn't want to mention it here for everyone to see, but you can't have DMs open because so many people on the internet are nitwits. It's the second time I've had to face this conundrum in a week's time. I suppose there could be worse problems to have!
Sorry Jesse, I don't fully understand your message about the DMs. Lost in translation I am afraid.
I have corrected the #.
No worries!
Welcome to DEV!
Great to have you here, Nadine!
My pleasure
I'm a fellow career changer 2.5 years after making the switch! While scary and overwhelming at times it has been totally worth it and communities like this make it even better!
Hi Nadine! I agree, after searching different articles on dev.to I felt comfortable to join too. A great place to learn and share ideas.
Definitely, it feels good to have people to share :)
Welcome to DEV!
:)
Congrats on deciding to focus on front-end dev! Coding is such a fulfilling livelihood, and now is a super exciting time to learn (especially in the world of JS). 🏆 🏆
Hey all,
My academic background is electrical engineering and software development. My passions are empowering people through technology. I live in Senegal, West Africa, where I work to foster entrepreneurialism among underemployed youth.
I am also a C# enthusiast. As a side hustle, I am working on developing a curriculum to teach computer programming here in Senegal. My friends here have a lot of great ideas, and I am hoping this curriculum will empower them to bring their ideas to fruition.
If you are interested, I regularly write C# tutorials at wellsb.com. You can also follow me on Twitter @bradwellsb
Glad to have you here, Bradley. Feel free to get involved in C# articles on the site and share your knowledge with the community.
Hi Bradley,
Great to see a fellow EE here! I am inspired to learn more about your venture. All the best.

Great to have you!
Total newbie here. Actually found this site thanks to the google app in the pixel launcher. Pointed me to an article and here I am. I'm looking to transition into a career in web design.
Hi there! Nice to hear you are also in a career transition. I am going through the same :D
It's refreshing to hear I'm not alone in that! From the looks of it you've made a lot of progress in a little time. Which gives me hope.
Sure! If you put time in it, you will improve super fast. However your perception won't be that hahaha
You came to the right place! Folks are generally super friendly and there's lots of beginner-friendly content as well!
Welcome to DEV. We have a lot of resources and articles on web design available, so I hope you find everything you're looking for.
Welcome! You've come to the right place. :)
Hello there!
Welcome!! I've also been going through a career transition for the last 1 1/2 years. Wishing you all the best!
Hey Raxath!
Just like many others it seems, I'm also here to transition into a different career path - good luck to both of us!
Hiya all! I’m Alain from Italy. I’m a proud dad and guitar player that become a dev because of a C64. Currently I’m in Sheffield - UK working as a web team leader at TheFloow. I’m still eager to learn new stuff and to give back to dev community what I received during all these years.
A fellow guitar player, nice! 🎸
What type of music you like playing?
I'm so bad at replying to comments... anyway mostly blues and rock-blues
Same here music-wise! Blues is the way to go. 😎
I brought here just a couple of my guitars, an 82 Made in Japan Fender Strat and a Yamaha APX 6.
OOooo nice guitar selection there! I mostly play my acoustic electric (a Washburn) right now and sing a lot.
In fact, my band just recently posted a video of us from our first show if ya are interested. I don't play my guitar that much in this one, haha, but our lead guitarist is awesome!
Cool video!
I have been trying to get back into playing the guitar, but I don't have a ton of time to devote to practicing. What style of music do you play?
And it's awesome that you became a dev because of C64! I grew up on fairly new technology, but I have a passion for old computers. I'd love to pick up a C64, Apple II, or anything like that!
C64 was awesome at that time. I still have my original ( working ) one in Italy. Probably I will buy the replica they recently put out on the market, just to give my kids a glimpse on 80s IT
Hello Alain,
Welcome. I'm only a few miles up the road from you in East Yorkshire. I grew into my C64 from my ZX81. Although only a novice player, I do pick up my guitar for a few minutes whenever I need a mental break from coding.
Hi Stuart! Nice to know! Any nice meetup to suggest? When this will be over I really hope to go back to the Dev-ops and Ruby ones in Sheffield
Hi Alain, no sorry, I don't tend to go to meetups etc.
Hoping you remain safe & well.
Nice! We also have a guitar player on the team, @michaeltharrington 🎶
Similar story here. Loved writing "databases" on the C64. Two small children myself so not much time for the guitar any more.
Hi, I'm Emma!
I currently work full-time as a front-end dev. I'm here to learn new things and improve my blogging skills.
I also have created a habit tracking Trello Power-Up called Streak - if you have any feature suggestions/critiques please let me know!
Hi! I'm here to also improve my blogging skills so hopefully we'll both be experts by the end of the year 💪
I took a look at Streak and it looks awesome 🎉 I've always been fascinated about using things like Trello instead of classic full-blown apps, and this is a really neat application of that idea!
Welcome!
Feel free to make a #showdev post about Streak 😊
Thanks Ben! Finally got around to it: dev.to/emma/streak-habit-tracker-f...
Hey everyone! My name is Skye, and I'm an upcoming junior in college studying Computer Science. This summer I have a web development internship with a local tech company that is challenging and improving my skills every day! I'm here because I see a lot of DEV.to articles on my twitter feed and decided to join the community!
Good luck with your internship! Don't be shy about using the #help tag to seek answers from the community if you're stuck on anything.
Thanks! This seems like a great community to be a part of so I definitely will use it to my advantage.
Welcome to the community! Would love to hear from you how the internship went. Maybe an article idea for later 🙂
It's going great right now! Maybe I will write about it at some point...
Hi All, My name is Chetan and I'm from sunny California
I'm an engineer turned company operations guy and I started Macrometa 2 years back with my cofounder Durga Gokina to create a new geo-distributed cloud that runs your apps and data across a network of data centers closer to your end users. So instead of your App or API having a single lonely backend thousands of miles and hundreds of milliseconds away from your clients, browsers, and devices, our cloud puts the database and server-side code 10-20 milliseconds away by distributing, synchronizing and orchestrating your data worldwide.
Macrometa is a CRDT database - it uses some new database techniques like Conflict Free Replicated Data Types, logical time keeping and Convergence (instead of consensus) to help provide strong consistency gaurnatees across very large network distances and latencies. It allows you to have local read write latencies - yet synchronizes accurately and deterministically.
Learn more at macrometa.co/macrometa-in-2
Welcome!
Macrometa is fascinating, I'll admit to not even realizing such a set-up is possible. Look forward to learning more, and welcome!
Thanks Peter for the warm words - I appreciate it.
If you have interest in some code - here's a repl of doing some things like creating a DB that runs across LA, Virginia, Frankfurt and Mumbai India
the code does some inserting and querying. There is a geo loadbalancer in front of this makes sure you are routed to the closest database location based on where you are making the request from.
Repl.it here --> repl.it/@ChetanVenkatesh/Programmi...

Let me know if you have any questions of feedback
Hi! My name is Sajjad, I'm from Iran. I enjoy coding and theory, and I love free software. I have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science and I'm starting a Master degree in the same field. I love hacking together chatbots and I've created a lot of them!
Very cool - welcome!
Show the community those chatbots!
They are in my native language (Farsi) and are published on Telegram, where would it be appropriate to share them?
Maybe share some info about the making of, to help others make?
Sounds great, I'll get to it once I found my way around
Hi all! My name is Peter and I'm from South Korea, Texas, and Illinois. I studied Economics at Yale and will be working in consulting in Washington, D.C. come this fall. I am excited about web development and data science, particularly in its applications for government tech! I love Ruby (and bare with Python)!
I want to build things that give more power to more people!
Yes! We are open-source and are definitely excited about finding ways to give power to the people. You might enjoy this post from yesterday.
From one Peter to another, welcome! :D
Hiya Peter, welcome to dev.to ^o/ 👋
There are many folks (web or other kinds of) development.
You can subscribe to #Ruby & #Python to learn & share 😀
Hey everyone,
My name's Josh and I just landed a frontend developer job a couple months ago at an advertising agency.
I'm solid in HTML and CSS, but my JavaScript is lacking, knowing only enough to make simple web animations.
My skills are good enough for my job, but I want to keep learning more technologies (I think my next step is learning React?) so that I can become a better developer and contribute more to this company or another in the future.
Been a lurker for a while, but decided to finally join this great community.
Cheers!
Very happy to have you here.
This is an admirable goal and attitude. Look forward to seeing you around the site.
Same! I lurked for a month or two before posting. Welcome to DEV!
Great to have you Josh!
Hey Everyone. My name is Meryem and i'm from Morocco. I was studying Chemistry in university but after 3 years of starting it i decided to change career and do what i actually like which is coding. I started on FreeCodeCamp and that was the point where i was 100% sure about coding. I never thought that i can make a project even if it's just a simple Tribute page , but i did it and after that i felt like i can literally do anything i want to. Now i'm focusing on CSS3 and want to master it.
I'm Happy to join you all here and excited to share and get ideas and thoughts with each others. ^
Welcome! CSS is fun! It's great seeing what people can make with just CSS.
I’m sure you’ll master it soon enough, welcome to the community Meryem!
Thank you Ben :)
Hi dev community, I'm Ben and I've been (see how that works?) a full LAMP stack developer since 2003. I'm learning Angular right now simply because I like it, the best way to learn is to read and write tutorials, so I just posted a couple and I'm reading more here.
Welcome, Ben! To steal a lame joke, it's always great to have more Bengineers in the community!
Heya! What's it like to still do PHP? I understand the ecosystem has changed quite a bit, there's got to be a lot of stories to tell
Well, mainly we do one of two things now, that is CMS's (WordPress is 40% of the internet, but isn't my "thing", but I have done Drupal, which is 4%) or write REST API's like everyone else (on the PHP side of things) with JavaScript frameworks to consume them on the front end. PHP still makes up around 70-80% of the internet, so there's a lot of us "still" doing it.
hi friends! i'm ariel, working as a "full-stack" (but primarily focused on back-end and sql) developer at a startup in orlando for just under two years. i worked for nearly a decade in hospitality (bs in hospitality management from ucf), before finally realizing that my mom (software engineer at boeing) was correct - my brain was made to write code. so here i am. looking to have interesting conversations and learn a bit, too. ✌🏼
Welcome Ariel!
I hope you'll have a great time here, you'll find plenty of content and a lot of interesting discussions. May I suggest that you browse around the discuss tag if you haven't already?
Awesome! How did you end up learning to code?
i'd been dabbling for many years, but ultimately attended a 6 week coding bootcamp to really dig in and learn enough to confidently apply for jobs and build fully functional web apps. best decision i've ever made!
you'll fit in well here
Hi everyone. My name is Jesse and I am from NYC. I am an avid coder and a software eng helping to build the WayScript visual programming platform - goal is to make software dev tasks way faster and easier (such as build a slack bot, run a script on a daily schedule and send an email, etc. ). I am a big python user but also work with javascript, sql, html/css (when I have to), and more. I usually go to Flask for web apps that I am building. I also like to post programming tutorials on our YouTube channel - youtube.com/c/wayscript
Here to learn more than I knew yesterday!
Welcome!
Any chance you'll be at nycirldev.splashthat.com/ ?
Thanks Ben! I haven't but it looks awesome and I am definitely going to RSVP to check it out
Awesome to have you here!
Please feel welcome to create your first post of any kind. It doesn't have to be a blog post, it could just be a question.
Use the #help tag if you need some folks to weigh in on a coding problem or the #discuss tag to start a community discussion.
Here's an example of a discussion post:
What are your favourite resources for beginners?

Everyone is welcome to start one. You can also peruse the site for good threads to weigh in on with a comment.
Also feel free to leave a question in any post. Authors love following up to add additional context. We're all here to learn and teach.
Happy coding!
Hey there. Just stumbled upon this site and though I'd join. Currently work as a Jack of all trades in the graphic design and web space. Use Laravel daily and trying to teach myself Vue to extend my skills. Just a heads up, I will probably be asking and reading many questions about it.
Welcome Chris (~ ̄▽ ̄)~🎈
I read a tweet one day that Laravel having a great ecosystem unlike Vue & React.
I wish you have a smooth learning experience with Vue 😀
And you can subscribe to #vue to learn and share with others 😉
G'day all.
I'm Søren from Denmark, a Nerd By Nature, a #groovylang lover and the founder of the All Things Groovy conference: GR8Conf (gr8conf.eu)
I'm pretty passioned about technology, and spend way too much time in front of my computer. While not sitting in front of it, I do enjoy walking in our beautiful country side, or rowing a kayak.
I love that you ended with rowing a kayak. I'm right there with ya on that one! 🛶
Looks like GR8Conf just wrapped up recently. How'd it go this year?
We had a blast of an event. Nothing but positive feedback. I just wish that there would be more attendees. I'm struggling to find the recipie to attract a larger crowd.
There are a few conference organizers here in the community. It would be awesome to continue sharing knowledge about how to plan and run awesome conferences. Welcome!
I'd be happy to share what I know. I'm "just" a developer who ended up doing a series of conferences (11 so far) on All Things Groovy
Hi community :) My name is Belgutei.I am from Mongolia.I've studied (2009)6 years ago Information technology which was not interested at all in that time, later on(currently) (little bit late) realized that i'd love to learn languages. I started from HTML, CSS and bit of JS. Searching and reading almost everyday articles to becoming frontend or fullstack path and decided to contribute my time and passion to coding.
Welcome Belgutei, thanks for joining!
Hi, I'm Alli and I've seen so many good things come out of this community on twitter, I finally decided to join. I have a degree in English but fell into web development many years ago and have yet to find a better career option. I love JavaScript but have recently started digging into some new languages, namely Java and Python. At the same time!
Fellow English major checking in! 🙌
Welcome!
Did you ever work in a non-technical role or did you go straight from English major -> professional web developer?!
My career history is far from usual. Maybe that would make for a good first post.
Hi all, my name is Florie. I did a job conversion, 1 year (and few months) ago, to become fullstack Js web dev and I love it !
I try to improve myself everyday (and sometimes it's hard 😅)
Welcome! I think you’ll fit right in.
Hello. My name is Rashad. What brought me here is that I feel I needed a place to be able to let my thoughts out on the process of becoming better at IT. I have a passion for Cyber Security and I hope to be able to get into the field by early next year after getting my Security + Comptia cert this year (hopefully).
Hey Rashad, welcome to the community!
Cyber security is an interesting topic and you are very welcome to post articles about it on DEV as you progress 😊
Hope you find a job and get your certifications.
Check out tags like #security, #privacy and #cryptography
Hi, I am Anurag Rana from New Delhi. I have a master's degree in computer science and I am working as a backend developer in a product based organization.
I am working on Java microservices right now and I have learned Python Django for my hobby projects. I write about the Python and Django on my blog pythoncircle.com, which in itself is developed by me in Django only.
Welcome Anurag!
Thank you, Ben.
Welcome Anurag!
Thanks, Highcenburg
Loving open source, low level tech (raspberry pi), lean tech (JavaScript) but better: combining them. Currently I'm working on building a CMS using JavaScript tech only: DHTMLX, Node and MongoDB, running on a Raspberry Pi 3B+... just because I can
Hi All - My name is Durga and from Bay Area, California. I came across Dev recently. My background is primarily in distributed systems like geo-distributed databases and streams. My interests are mostly to do with building stuff, trading and playing with my dog. Not sure what else to say. Just wanted to say Hi to all.
Take care,
Durga
Hey Durga, welcome to the community. There are plenty of dog lovers here on DEV. We should maybe start a thread where people can show off their four-legged friends.
Hi Peter - Nice to meet you. I agree. We should have a thread where folks can introduce their four-legged friends.
Regards,
Durga
Hi everyone. I am Tercio and I'm from Brazil.
It is great to be here. Despite the almost 10 years working as developer, I feel as a beginner: with a lot of things to learn.
I hope learn with all you. Tnks!
Perth dotnet developer here. I dig holes for a living, using a text editor.
Passionate about unit testing because it's the only real way I have of knowing the stuff I wrote still works.
I run Perth Open Source Hackers (POSH) which is a once a month hack afternoon at our local maker space, The Perth Artifactory.
Lovely to have found this place, it looks like where my ppl hang out.
This reminds me of my favorite poem: Digging by Seamus Heaney
Welcome!
Great poem!
Thanks for the welcome. :)

Hello! I'm a software engineer in Chicago. I've come down with a bout of imposter syndrome after a recent promotion so I thought joining a learning community might be a good way to fill those boots so to speak. I'm excited to improve my craft with everyone here!
Greetings! I'm Jesse B. aka WolfSpiderCode a veteran of the Entertainment, Broadcast, Video Game, FinTech and currently Enterprise Software industries. Started coding at the age of 8 and mostly self taught but have had formal education as well in college. I typically mentor CS students or those that have recently finished their B.S. or M.S. as part of my day job. I'm hoping I can learn a lot from all of you here and very much enjoy the format of this site. Cheers!
Hi! I'm Avital from Tel Aviv - backend developer turned Developer Advocate, who recently got involved in twitter and ultimately got exposed to THIS amazing community. Next thing you know, I'm co-hosting the first Dev IRL Tel Aviv event with Ben Greenberg! (can you tag people here?)
There are few things I love more than planning events. Maybe cooking. They're both such excellent ways to pull a bunch of moving elements together and create something totally awesome!
Welcome! And yes! You can tag people here with this syntax
@benhayehudi
. @benhayehudi look forward to pics!!Thanks @jess ! (for some reason I was expecting auto fill on the @ ?)
Oh yeah, that would be really nice. I think we have an issue open for that if someone wants to contribute!
Hi! I'm Daniel Rodriguez. Originally from Venezuela, now living in Florida, I've been working almost exclusively as a remote software developer since 2011. I recently joined Microsoft! I'm working on the TypeScript SDKs for Azure!
Hello, does anyone know how to change the tags I'm following (ie remove some, add others)? I had a look in settings and in general around my profile and I can't find how to do it.
You can go to the tag page to remove it. For example, dev.to/t/javascript!
Thank you! Is there a way to see all existing tags too (so I can choose perhaps some more/others)?
Here's a bunch!
dev.to/tags
Thanks, I had found those but I was literally looking for the full set :)
Hello, guys! My name is Eduardo, but you can call me Lalo. I am a software developer from Mexico for the last 4 years. I am currently working as web developer for a company from Mexico City remotely and working on a personal project (web and mobile application).
I have interest on learning some videogame engine and currently I am learning SASS, PixelArt, VueJS and Xamarin. I hope to learn a lot of cool stuff here.
Nice! Keep an eye on this tag - dev.to/t/gamedev for everything game dev!
Thank you, Michael! It was one of the first tags I followed after signup, but thanks, I'll have an eye on it :)
Hello, everyone! My name is Swany and I am from Brazil. I am on transition of quitting my current profession to become a developer. So far in love with C# and going through really intense learning process. Currently studying SQL. I am working on getting a degree right now :)
Hi. I'm Orlando, greetings from Venezuela. I started learning code, this past year and really think it's a great thing to learn, this site is awesome and the community here is pretty cool. Hope I can help more people to learn code soon. I'm interested in JavaScript and Python.

Hello all,
My name is Brett and I am an aspiring dev from Cocoa Beach Florida.
A little bit about my history, I was an audio engineer for about 15 years and had many day jobs along the way. Though eventually I got tired of not seeing my children so I decided to switch careers. I had built websites and graphics for bands and businesses mostly drag-and-drop but using HTML and CSS to really do what the client needed to do. During this time I got experience with Dreamweaver and utilizing FTP servers. Also, I got bit by the programming bug early in life with qbasic.
After leaving the music industry I got a job at a local magazine as their graphic designer and web developer. Using Wordpress I brought our SEO scores up and cleaned up the site as well as added ads. We also had three other clients that I managed and rebuilt their web pages as well All of them using different hosts and CMS.
While working for this company I took a couple of free online courses to get my chops up in HTML and CSS. After leaving that company I started to attend treehouse where I learned more about front end development and JavaScript. Though I made the mistake of not building a portfolio during this time, so after completing the course on front end development I was still unable to get a job.
After getting rejection letter after rejection letter I decided to get a job in something I had quite a bit of experience with CNC Machining.
Now on the right track I am starting to build my portfolio and learn Frameworks as well as many other things. I found out about this community on a podcast started looking around and found this community to be amazing. I will be writing a blog post in the future about the pitfalls and the struggles of getting into this industry.
I would definitely like to thank all of you that have contributed to this community and thank you for all of the information that I have already absorbed through this community.
Welcome, please use the community to learn and take your next steps!
Well hearing you describe this community on real talk JavaScript is what brought me here. So thank you very much.
Hi all, I am newbie here. Excited to find this awesome platform in google(Just Awesome Articles). I am trying to start my career in this field.
I am confused whether should i start my career in C#,ASP.NET or Java Spring-boot?. Also, i don't have plan to do android programming. Looking for Suggestions.
Thank You:D
Welcome! Feel free to start a thread on the #help tag if you'd like to solicit some advice from the community.
Hiya all! I’m Alain, today in Sheffield tomorrow... probably in Sheffield again. I’m a proud dad and guitar player who became a developer because of a C64... currently I’m working as web team leader at TheFloow. I’m still eager to learn and share my experiences with the dev community
Hey everyone! I've been here a handful of times but since it seems I can't stop hearing about dev.to, I decided I should probably dive in a bit deeper and actually create an account. So here we are. I'm an "AWS Engineer" per my job title. So far I have two AWS certs, working on a third. I love to write code, mainly in flavors of JS or python. I'm currently about to begin an onboarding dashboard project for my company. Thinking about giving Electron a whirl with React.
Just thought I would say hello. I was told about the Dev.to community at a local developer meet up, and now I'm totally hooked. I'm a CS student and dad by day, and novice developer by night. I'm slowly pecking my way through JavaScript while juggling my school life. Something interesting about me? I used to be a radio DJ and board operator.
Hello,
My name is Eric and I live in Chicago. I am here to learn more about Java Script so I can test APIs more efficiently in Postman. I would also like to learn more about Selenium.
Thanks,
Welcome! And cool stuff, you should think about following the #javascript and #selenium tags as your feed will send you content relevant to whatever tags you follow.
Thank you. I was already following javascript but didnt know about selenium.
No worries!
In fact, I should mention that you can simply type
dev.to/t/whatevertagyouwant
to see a list of all posts that have been tagged with that tag.If you're just looking to browse tags however, this is a great place to start - dev.to/tags. This isn't a comprehensive list, but it shows the most used tags.
Hope this helps!
Great to have you Eric! I think you'll fit right in.
Hi! My name is Alex, and I'm a web developer from Upstate New York. I am always looking to learn new things, and I love building things from scratch. I'm also interested in a ton of different topics, and I listen to a ton of music.

Hello everybody and good morning, afternoon or evening wherever you are! My name is Edward and I'm a Computer Engineer from Venezuela but I'm currently living in Panama because of my work as a consultant.
I'm currently improving my skills as a Web developer but my heart is in game dev.
I hope you have/had a great day!
Are you actively doing any game dev these days?
Hi Ben, nice to meet you.
Kind of haha. I try to replicate the mechanics of various games in my free time but I stopped because I am looking for another job more related to Software development so, right now, I'm improving my skills in JS and C ++.
But I made two little games, one infinite runner and a race like that I want to improve (right now there's only one car, I need to add another one to make it a racing game, right? haha)
Hi there, I'm Fernando, 39. I'm a Software Engineer from Brazil.
I've never really seen this network before, thought it'd be interesting to test the waters around here.
Test away, let us know if you have any questions!
Thanks!
Hello family!
I am Michael and I am from Ghana. I am 22 and I live and work as an e-commerce assistant in the capital Accra. Though I am pretty new to e-commerce, I've learned quite a lot in the very short space of time and what's compelled me to start learning code is how and why I actually got hired in the first place. My company needed a total revamp of its website and seeing how the processes and the way things were going about, I felt intrigued and told myself I'd learn how to code and develop websites for people and clients and businesses that needed them. Before the year ends, I hope to have acquired and mastered the basics of web development first hand. I joined Dev Community so as to engage and learn from the rest of the world that I want to be a part of. I look forwarding to an adventurous and fulfilled dev life!
Sounds like you'll fit right in!
Thank you! Really looking forward to it
Hello, my name is Eligreg and I'm a Venezuelan displaced living in Colombia. I started my digital career writing content but quickly learned that coding is the backbone of everything we do online and I want to learn. Also, I need a better job. There are many refugees who can cook or clean but not many that can code. I think I might get a better job if I learn how to code. Since I've been working in Marketing, my goal is to work with Analytics and data.
Being part of a community is always the best, I'm glad to start this path.
Sounds like you have a pretty great idea of the path forward and it is absolutely awesome to have you! My inbox is open if you ever need help with anything.
That's really nice! Thank you so much, Ben!
Hi all, my nam is Yannick. I’m a front-end developer at Yummygum based in the Netherlands.
I just finished my finals project for my study in interaction design. And starting next year I’ll be studying information technology.
I’m currently trying to introduce code testing in to our process at Yummygum.
My passion lays with HTML, CSS, Javascript and React. I also have a strong passion for creating a good UX for the end user.
I love helping people and answering questions as I love to give my own thoughts but most importantly hear the thoughts of others.
I’m very happy to become a part of this community.
Hi Yannick, welcome to the community. We're all glad that you're here.
This is a wonderful attitude, look forward to seeing some of your thoughts.
Hi all! Greetings from Indonesia. My name is Danil, I'm 34 y.o. Actually i feel like a bit late entering development world. Since 2006, I've entered IT field as a student, and luckily learn about Linux at that moment. In 2009, I started working as a (offline) course instructor, with quite broad topic covered (web dev, mobile dev, graphic design and multimedia); mostly of it use FOSS (Free Open Source Software) as tools. During that time, I've never involved in real development project; Besides preparing -mostly- web & mobile project as learning materials.
Feel that I should have real development project, I decided to resign in Q4 2017. And I joined Indonesian startup company as a Web & Mobile Developer, in Jan 2018. Until present, I feel that I got more experience on development much much more than my previous job as an instructor.
But personally, I eager to learn more from the community. As experience is the best teacher, said ones quote. So, here I am :)
Hi guys, I am Serge and I got here after sometime following other fellows developers on Twitter, where I run onto Kelly Vaughn's @kvlly hanlde. I am a freelancer and most of my work comes from the Freelancer.com marketplace, I think of building up my own agency eventually. Her article "Freelancing 101: How to get started" took here on dev.to and wanted to open the account. Looking forward to having six figures projects as she managed to do from side projects. I am mainly a C#, .NET guy with more focused on the backend, and recently cloud with Azure, I come from a Electronics Systems Engineering background and I think this explains why I don't like front end. I would like to try out IoT and Fintech development soon. Finally I live with my parents in Mazatlan, a coastal sunny city in western Mexico.
Hi all 👋🏾

Excited to be in this community, as I hope it can provide me with support and allow me to support others! 😊
Hey, my name is Blake. I live in Toronto, Canada and I'm just about to start my first dev job at Inkblot. I tend to focus on the front end and love slingin Javascript. Right now, I'm learning rails and hacking on a couple of side projects. Excited to meet people in the dev.to community!

Hey,
Growing up my family had an Elk Ranch. Terrible idea don't get into it. Still that lead me to be involved in startups and to enjoy the crazy. Now working as a Dev/Product Owner at a startup called Jolt. I ended up here because of an article about GraphQL. I created an account to see if I could find the setting to put the website into a DarkMode. Hopefully it has one.
Hey Bryan! Welcome!
And oh wow, an Elk Ranch eh? There's gotta be a great yak shaving joke in there. 🦙
We have a light, dark, and pink mode!

I've always wanted to travel to Romania! Been to Bulgaria, but didn't quite make it as far as Romania. I lived in Scotland for a bit and love old castles. I've heard there are some pretty cool looking medieval towns and gothic castles. Bran Castle looks awesome!
Hi everyone! 👋🏼
I'm Sanket, and I'm founder of DeepSource, a continuous quality platform. I'm passionate about developer tools, language analysis, and distributed systems -- and my day job includes building stuff that helps developers write better code. Looking forward to have insightful conversations around these. Hit me up!
DeepSource looks neat!
Thanks Ben! It's free for open-source forever, so you can try it out. 😀
Hey, guys. I am new here in Dev. Learning web development through online course. I wonder what you think about passportjs in terms of authentication and web security.
Hi gaous, Its great but if you want to deep dive, just use OAuth service is not that hard..
I usually implement myself. But its okay use passport or grantjs
You can checkout mine using local strategy not using passport but with cookies and redis.
But this type of comment should be in #help #javascript like ben said
This would make a good #help thread along with #javascript and #node
Hi all, my name is Lucas and I'm from Poland. I was interested in programming from middle-school and started my career 4 years ago as a SharePoint developer. Currently, I work on web projects using ASP.NET Core and I love it!
I'm here by recommendation from my co-worker
Hello,
I'm really new to the coding industry. I am learning out of curiosity and started getting into it partly to help with a website. I'm open to all suggestions including, podcasts and websites or audio books I need to invest time into covering gaming and coding that would be great. Hope everyone is having a great summer so far. Take care!
Welcome! Definitely follow the #beginners tag and don’t be shy about asking questions!
Hi guys. I am Itumeleng, a Front-end Developer from Tshwane in South Africa. Passionate about creating meaningful web based software solutions. I enjoy the challenge of continuous learning. My recent work primarily involved working with Angular and Boostrap.
Currently, I'm in a journey to learn more about backend development with more focus on data visualisation and visual analytics with some AI in the mix. More like applying more of my Computer Science Honours degree.
I joined this community because I want to start making contribution to it as it has been a valuable tool for me. I am hoping for a great learning and sharing experience here.
Hi,
My name is Nikki. I am from California, USA. I love to read books about coding, and am learning VUE.JS. I worked as a Web Programmer back in the 90. I wrote Javascript, ASP, HTML, CSS and SQL. My background is in Biology.
Welcome Nikki, how long have you been working with Vue?
I have been learning VUE about 2 months. Hopefully, you will teach me more about VUE.
Welcome!
Hello DEV.TO community. Some great posts from various authors here have been surfaced lately on my Pixel (swipe-left topic feed) and so I dove in (finally) on my laptop and joined.
I've been a designer/developer since the early days of "pixel perfect designs" and I have "freelanced" for over a decade - aka been only self-employed. It's been a wild ride, with feast and famine cycles. But always being self-determined was the way I lived my life, working with clients while traveling around the world (Brazil to New Zealand and in between). As a front-end UX specialist, I mostly built designs, partnered with developers, and managed clients.
Now I am part of two startups, working with amazing people and cofounders (yes, out of the client-chasing realm).
I am happy to offer advice to anyone striking out on their own... your business model matters more than you think!
cheers.
Welcome Paul!
Anyone interested in helping others will fit right in here 😊
Hi!
My name is Guillaume, from Montreal Canada.
After almost 10 years as a Product/Project Manager, I decided to signup for a coding bootcamp (Ruby/Rails/ES6/React/Sass) and change careers. I was always interested in coding, most of my friends are devs but never took the leap of faith. That's done now! I'm currently interviewing for a few junior positions so fingers crossed :) For the job as well as online resources about coding, I hope to find support/info in order to ship good/performant/maintainable code.
Other than that, I love music and have been playing in bands and touring for almost 25 years now.
Cheers everyone!
Welcome fellow Canadian 🇨🇦 😄
Also fellow Rails dev
Thanks a lot :) Nice, 2 things in common!
Hey folks 👋
I joined a while ago but I'm trying to step up my blog posting and want to become a part of this community 🎉 I'm based in Dublin, Ireland and am a very big Ember fan! If anyone is ever curious about Ember I will always have time for them 😂
I'm super into open source and when I'm not coding for work I tend to be coding in my free time contributing to a whole bunch of projects!
I look forward to chatting with a lot of you all!
Great to have you!
Hey all! Bryan here and I'm new to dev.to as well. I'm from Singapore but based in Berlin now, working as a growth engineer. I used to be a fullstack developer with more weight towards the backend (Rails), but gradually made the shift fully over to the frontend as I switched jobs. Other than general web development, a lot of my work also involves the technical side of tracking, analytics and experimentation!
Hey Everyone! My name is Demaris and I am a new Front End Developer. I found dev.to via google recommended articles. I am currently looking to gain more web dev skills. I’m comfortable with the basics HTML and CSS, and I’m working on mastering JavaScript before revisiting jQuery and React. I am working on a few projects while I look for a full-time position, so I can continue to progress in my code journey. I look forward to learn and advance my skills.
Hello everyone! I am Jeff, Software Engineer at Palo Alto Networks. I already have a few posts, but managed to not introduce myself first.
I came to Dev.to due to a friend of mine telling me how great it is. I had been posting on Medium for a while and felt like nobody cared about what I wrote. He suggested posting on here since it is much more engineering focused.
Currently working in JS, React, Redux, but formerly I was a Ruby on Rails dev.
Fun fact about me is I collect and build vintage cars. It is kind of an obsession really.
Anyways, hi to everyone, and hopefully some of you take a gander at my content.
Just started learning Python for my job and I hate it. The learning curve is brutal. I can't get the hang of the whole dictionary thing. I've been coding in HTML, CSS, JAVA, Objective C, C++, C# for a decade. Dabbled in FORTRAN for a summer and I fell in love with SQL last year and started mastery in that language this year.
Fails to sleep...Opens email...Reads DEV articles...
Six hours later...I love this community...joins without a second thought.
Hi, I'm Isaac from Kampala Uganda. A dot net enthusiast, C# is my preferred language. My philosophy is that technology supports people and processes. I love solving problems. I'm looking forward to learning and sharing.
😊
Hopefully you can fall asleep soon!
I stay up a little bit longer. So many interesting topics to go through.
Hi there! My name is Mauro from Rome, Italy. I really like coding and above all everything about Javascript and the Wordpress world. After 7 years working as a WP Developer (side hustle) I decided last year to properly learn to code and change career even though I'm 40 and probably old to do it. It doesn't really matter and I want to try the same, just to prove myself I can. I'm now learning React and on the road to find a new job in this industry.
hi all! my name's liv and i'm on the rust team, focusing on community aspects and meetup organization and so forth. i used to be on the node.js community committee, and node has a sweet spot in my heart, but these days i'm particularly excited about rust and especially webassembly!
Awesome, welcome to dev.to! I'm very interested in learning Rust, and recently bought "The Rust Programming Language" by Steve Klabnik and Carol Nichols.
nice, that's a good one!
Heya!
I'm Lúcás, I'm a CS student, and I've been programming for about 2 years now.
I'm a fan of Functional Programming, and love tinkering on backends and APIs.
I hope that people will be able to get something out of my tinkering as I post about it 8)
Hi, I'm Lu and a minute ago wrote a post and... I think I did not submit it. If it happens to appear twice, I'm so sorry, I'll delete it ASAP.
I'm a junior web developer. I'm also a professional editor and a very detail oriented proofreader. I'm passionate about communication so I thrive to make amazing and accesible UIs and write great documentation.
Currently looking for a new full time job as a dev and looking forward to start learning mobile development next month.
Hi Lu, welcome to DEV! :)
Regarding the double comment issue, it's not you, it's us. 😅 What happens is when you submit a comment, it shows up at the top. When you leave the page though the comment will move according to our ranking system. Sorry about the confusion!
Good luck in your job search!
Oh, so that's what happened XD (I'll look up the duplicate and delete it if I can, sorry!). Thank you for the clarification and kind words! glad to be here!
No worries! Duplicate as much as you want (or don't want)! 😁
Hi y'all! I've been a lurker and have been meaning to join for a while now but /jokes made me actually sign up (thanks Ali). I'm a frontend developer in Boston that transitioned to tech two and a half years ago after quitting my job in the insurance industry in Jan 2017. I'm working on strengthening my JavaScript knowledge while looking for my next role and really appreciate the great community and resources here!
Oh hey! I know you! Welcome!!!
Hey back atcha! (I'm not kidding that /jokes made me join haha)
that's amazing haha can't wait to see yours :)
Hi! My name is Meagan, and I am from Portland, OR. I recently graduated from Oregon State with my Bachelor's in Computer Science. My interests include web/cloud development, UX, and DEVOPS.
Hi I'm Jenny and I am a full stack developer from Dallas,TX. and I have been developing in Angular for the past 4-5 years. I recently started working with React and I am working with React Hooks and learning how to use them. I could really use a React friend or a few of them that I can bounce ideas with and ask questions about the technology when I run into issues. Preferably looking for someone who thinks of themselves as a React expert:)
hey, im a software engineer and reverse engineer, I self taught my self a lot of what i know about computers and reversing while growing up from a super early age.
I started to go to a community college and got burned out the first year. the work was honestly just way to easy and i wanted to be in the workforce now not later. so i put it on hold for a while and i went and joined the health case information tech field. It was a journey but i learned a lot and worked with some of the best companys in the industry, like toshiba, samsung. etc.
Sadly i do have a health condition i knew about that was getting worse and worse over time. and at the moment i'm taking a break from everything so i can focus on my health over the next 5 years possibly.
I can't wait for my return back to the tech industry, i bet so much will have changed by the time i end up back in a professional position!
But honestly, im down to make friends and contacts during this time, I'm personally from the Northen kentucky area!
Hey, my name is Sebastian and im from Sweden. I am human first and a coder second. In that order at my self and towards others. Been working as a dev for about 8 years now. I love JavaScript and NodeJS. Currently doing Java-backend with RxJava and React for frontend.
Hello Alex, my name is Ryan and I am new here and just wanted to say hi. It sounds like you got a lot of fun stuff going on can't wait to get to know you and everyone more and this really seems like a good place to foster friendships and community with like-minded individuals.
Hi. My name is Xinyu and I'm from China. I used to be an iOS developer. Recently I started to learn and build web apps and found this amazing website. There are so many good articles about development, i'm very glad to be here and join all of you!
Great to have you!!
Hi 👋
My name is KimSia and I'm from Singapore 🇸🇬.
How I got started in dev.to
Came across dev.to a few times during googling for answers in the past. Nothing at those times convinced me to look at dev.to longer.
Initially I thought this is just another me-too dev tutorial + community. Then I googled for vscode extensions materials and found some pretty good stuff that I cannot find elsewhere.
I changed my mind about dev.to
So I dug a bit more and am now listening to the realtalkjavascript.simplecast.fm/b... podcast where Ben Halpern was on.
Decided to take the plunge and follow a few topics. I like the design so far.
What I am interested in learning
I am interested in a range of topics such as vscode extensions, python, javascript, django, react, electron, deeplearning, aws, and database design.
I am also excited abt the new raspberry pi model 4. looking to get my hands on one towards end of year :)
What I'm doing
I run an independent software vendor (ISV) business.
I specialize in end-to-end business processes for telco, civil engineering, and construction companies.
Current main project is for telco equipment company managing their BOQ (Bill of Quantities) process from request all the way to acceptance.
Great answers 😄
Welcome!
Hello all, I'm Jonathan Thomas. I'm a weirdo. I've been learning to code on and off for the last couple of years. I've picked up the basics of web development and completed several self-paced bootcamps. Recently my interest have come to incoroprate cybersecuirty. I'm the owner of afropolymath.com where I chronicle my attempts of landing a coveted tech career. As someone from a non traditional background(read perpetual dropout) I find it would be better to connect with this group to learn as much as possible.
I'm very excited to meet you all as we PROCEED TO CONQUER THE WOR-....ergh, I look forward to making a lot friends here, k bye!
I hope to connect with a lot of like minded people
Welcome, Jonathan! Very glad to have you here.
Hi all. My name is Óscar and I'm from Spain. As many here, if not all, I love coding. That's why I'm always looking for challenges to test my skills and improve. The second thing I love is the community behind software development and how we help others. Currently, I'm working on C# and .Net Core and found that they are pretty productive. Also, I'm learning about the internals of .Net Core and deep diving in architectures like DDD, EventSourcing.
Hello everyone. I'm Lizette and I'm from Nigeria. I love programming, and not only because IT is the future but I've always wanted to know how things work right from when I was a kid. My biggest passion and focus right now is web development, mainly frontend I love HTML, CSS, JavaScript and web performance, UI and UX, though I'm still learning UX. Every time I finish a personal project: I always look forward to how to make it better than I did, my friends sometimes say I'm never satisfied with whatever I did with is through though no one is perfect but I'm working towards perfection. I have three mentors currently one is the person who really introduced me into the world of programming and have always believed in me his name is Joseph and then two popular ones on YouTube Travis Neilson and Kevin Powell.
Hey everyone. I hate these things so will be short and sweet. After 10 years in various finance and insurance jobs and getting bored after 3 months, I've finally taken the plunge into programming. After leaving my job 9 months ago to self study, I'm finally at the point of looking for a job. My enjoyment and confidence seems to flip on an hourly basis depending on how well I feel I'm doing and what I'm doing specifically.... I hear it's all part of the process. I'm looking forward to the future when I'm at a point that I can contribute technically to online environments like this!
Well you got that out of the way, welcome!
Thanks :)
Hey @all,
I am Alex from Hude (Germany). Born in Omsk (Russia). I am bilingual.

The browser has now round about 50 tabs open with your posts. I am looking forward to read all of them.
My way to dev.to was an post of @codingunicorn . Thank you Julia.
Hi there!
I'm Daniel and I'm a Co-Founder at Hopthru. We're working to bring modern software to public transportation so they can compete in today's tech-driven world of transportation.
I love talking about transportation and public policy when I'm not coding!
Welcome! Hopthru looks really interesting. How is it going so far?
Hello World! :D
I was invited by a colleague. I look forward to seeing some awesome projects and collaborating with you! I'm currently focused on furthering my accessibility knowledge and coding skills in my career and helping my team create a more seamless and consistent user experience in our base software. I'm also pretty big into 3D printing in my spare time right now.
You've now got the rest of the DEV Community alongside you. Feel free to lean on #help and the rest of that tags to ask for advice, connect with folks in similar situations, and to share your knowledge along the way. My connect inbox is also open.
Welcome!
Hello there! I'm Cindy! I'm interested in connecting with like-minded people, be of help and learn!.
I had worked in many of the areas that involve a software business, from development, implementation, planning, design, distribution, and more recently marketing, and I love every part of it!.
I think right now is just the perfect time to be a creator, and producing software that gives real value to people is awesome and rewarding. Like this platform that I just discovered!.
And the more I learn the possibilities we have with this skill and the new tech the more interested I'm in becoming a better coder/writer/person/creator, because that I love learning.

Hey Everyone 👋
I'm Balázs from Hungary, living and working in The Netherlands
I have started to get more-and-more interested in software development, Cloud and DevOps a few years back, but never really had a laser-focus to develop my skills and myself in these domains.
Now I'm here to hold myself to a new promise; to make sure I can find a Cloud Engineer or DevOps Engineer job in 2020.
Planning to do that by learning a lot from the community and giving back too, while taking online courses and building fun personal projects.
Excited to be here and part of the community 🥳🤓
Hey!
Figured I'd make an account since I browse dev.to daily.
Been doing front end development since 2013. Mostly CMS-based sites, now working at a SaaS company working with React. Love it!
Fun fact about myself.. I play guitar! Which is super fun. Glad to be here!
Cool! @michaeltharrington is our DEV Team guitarist :)
Thanks for signing up! React is a breath of fresh air if you’re used to some of its predecessors 😄

Hi y'all! 👋
I'm a front-end developer and MSc student in product design from northern Sweden. I've been a hobby developer since 2011, but only recently got serious with it. This fall I'll begin my master's thesis project, hopefully in the field of UI/UX and front-end development (still looking for a company to collaborate with).
I've had a lot of other hobbies during the years as well, one of which is writing articles. I just published one on here as a matter of fact. Check it out if it sounds interesting to you! 👉 "Creating a website theme switcher with CSS only"
Really looking forward to spending some time in this community! 🙂
Hey Alexander!
Looks like a great first article. Thanks for sharing! Hope there are more to come!
I'm glad you appreciate it, Michael! For sure. Replies like these motivate me to share more, so thank you! 😌
Hey! I'm Kabir, a 15-year-old from California. I've been programming for a while now, and love working on open source projects. I currently work on Moon, a tiny library for making functional user interfaces. I'm familiar with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Python, Elixir, Haskell, and C.
Lately I've been getting into functional programming a lot more and have started a new API for Moon that follows these new principles. I've read some articles on here before, and the constant positivity and welcoming environment was a breath of fresh air when compared to other communities.
I hope I can learn something new here and teach others as well :)
Welcome Kabir!
We are super lucky to have such a positive community here! Glad to know that you've been enjoying the site from the outside and decided to join us on in the inside. Hope you enjoy DEV!

Hello all, Ali (Real Name) aka Hasdrubal, aka Alexandre aka Sacha from France (orignated from Tunisia), I speak Frensh, English, Russian, Arabic and Tunisian (Yes Tunisian, because its not kind of Arabic and not a dialect also, it's complicated). I love coding, watching films especially Russian ones.
Hi everyone. I am Nurul Huda Imran from Chittagong, Bangladesh. I am here to learn from you all, and possibly someday I might be able to help u back. The idea of doing amazing stuffs with computer always seemed magical to me as a school going kid. But now I know, all you need to do is learn and apply that knowledge. So, I am trying to learn. I am a lazy guy, I work in a company where I mainly create some dynamic pages, I read books & watch movies in my free time. And I talk a lot. Sorry :( If anyone read this, thanks. :)
Hey guys, my name is Job. From Nairobi, Kenya. A junior data scientist. I am enthusiastic about Data Science. Thirst to innovate something along the lines of Data and Web. Hi, I'm Habeeb Awoyemi from Nigeria, i'm a student of computer science in kwara state polytechnic of Nigeria, I'm so glad to be here here, in fact I'm so motivated that there's a place like this where complete newbies like me can run to for help, I have struggled for sometime understand the whole concept of coding and put it to effective use, I still have challenge with structuring my learning, I wish I meet someone who's ready to guide me through this line.. Thanks
Hi everyone!
I'm from France, frontend developer in freelance with an art, maths and physics background (yeah it's a little weird but at the end, everything is useful!).
Happy to join the community, will try to post some interesting thoughts if I have some and will definitely trying to comment some articles when I have something useful to say about it!
Hi! I'm Megan. I'm here because I have an amazing opportunity to work to transition into a career in backend development at my workplace. I'm currently a team lead for a fintech company. I'm learning Clojure right now.
Hi! This is Dilara from Turkey and I have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering. After I graduated, I started to work in a small software company and was responsible for mainly front-end development and mobile applications. To be honest I didn't improve myself while studying and at work, we were on a busy schedule and to save the day we were missing the base of the technologies sometimes. Now I quit and do enjoy coding and want to know things by really understanding it. These days I learn vue.js, phyton, django and flutter by watching tutorials and doing clone projects. Happy to be in this community :)
Hey all, I'm Omar from Palestine. I've a bachelor's degree in Computer System Engineering. I worked as a backend engineer, a data engineer, and soon I'll start as a full stack engineer at a new startup.
I'm really pleased to find this community, I've been searching for such one for a quite sometime. I believe I'm gonna learn much from your experience and I hope I can do the same for you all.
Welcome! Glad you found us. 😄
Hello guy. My Name is Moustafa and I am in the software development market for 4+ years now. I was able to get a job as an Android developer in my last year at university. From that time on, All my work experience was and is in the Android domain. I am diving deeper and deeper in this platform and I can't get enough of it. Its huge, alive, and fun to work with! Hope to meet with great folks over here :)
Hey there! My name is Max and I switched my career to computer science 4 years ago - yes I'm one of these guys :D I finished my computer science studies and I'm now working as a full time Java Software Engineer. In my freetime I try to learn as much as I can to widen my skills in a "fullstack" way - but most of the time I'm just impressed about the skills some guys have! So, in the hope of becoming one of those skilled guys at some day I'm here to learn :)
Hello, Anita here.
I've been a programmer since 1979. I've used many, many OSes, languages, frameworks, systems, editors and IDEs.
My first job was as a systems program on CDC Cyber systems - 60bit words, a machine language that was unusual even then, and peripheral processors with 15 bit words. If you wrote carefully (on paper, then on punched card) you could rearrange your code to fit several instructions into one word. (The Cyber min config included 32,768 words of memory.
I still enjoy programming and now I write mostly in Ruby and javascript (ES6).
As is now the trend I am opinionated in some regards, but I don't stay up arguing in the OS wars, or the Editor wars or any other wars these days.
Good day, all. My name is Joel and I am an undergraduate student looking to focus on software engineering. I have been browsing Dev.to for a few months now, but decided to introduce myself and join this great community of like-minded devs to get the most out of this network and begin contributing from my experiences so far.
All the best!
Hi all and thanks for having me! I came here from a suggestion from @vscodetips. I did have some questions regarding key binding chords in VS Code, but I have since figured it out on my own, but it's always good to find a good community!!! I don't have any degrees (though I do have some formal education), but I have loved scripting/programming for well over 20 years and have done plenty of freelance work in the past; though now that I have my small farm I just code for the love of it. I am only a proficient and experienced scripter, but I am moving on to more low-level languages to broaden and improve my skills.
Howdy, I'm Jared from Austin. I'm a CS graduate from the University of Texas after major changing from the design program. I currently work as a full-stack web developer.
I'm really obsessed with user interactions and accessibility right now and looking to get into writing and sharing my own experiences in software!
Welcome, Jared! Will look forward to your future posts :)
Hi all,
I've noticed I keep linking to this site from various places for the excellent content, and I like the friendly vibe. I'm a former high school teacher turned node developer (shout out to all the former teachers on here: thanks for your service =) Now that I finally feel a little less imposter-ish about being a developer, I'd like to try and give back by writing some content on things I know pretty well. Uhhh random fact: I hiked the Pacific Crest Trail in 2010.
Cheers,
Christian
That's awesome! A good friend of mine hiked John Muir by herself a couple summers ago.
Welcome to the community, officially :)
Hi Folks!
I'm a Linux Systems Engineer - previously a Linux Systems Admin at a well known web host. I've got interests in Systems architecture and design. I'm forever learning and I hope to find new insights from everyone here to make better things.
Thanks for having me.

Hi! My name is Vitalii, i am 21 years old. Why i'm here? I like to solve interesting and extraordinary tasks. It's amazing, how much programming gives you. At this time, i search work and improve my skills everyday. Have a nice day. Ps. "Never give up, great things take time".
I must admit, I am not great at first impressions.
Hello, my name is Jeffrey Hartmann. I have been available for work since September 2016; it is now June 2019. My experience includes front-end and back web design and development as well as relational databases. I am open to opportunities in and out of web development in (or maybe out of) Chicago. I am willing to discuss career alternatives, including entry-level and junior-level situations. My personal website, jephmann.com is where I tinker to stay active while in between jobs. I do not know how active I will be on Dev.to as my primary focus is currently on securing an earnest restart to my career; plus I'm a bit on the shy side anyhow. Regardless, the learning never stops for me and I hope that I can contribute to Dev.to some time soon. Thanks!
Hey Jeffrey!
Welcome to DEV. Hope you find some good resources to help restart your career. Make sure to turn on "Looking for work" in your profile and consider filling out an available for work listing here - dev.to/listings/forhire.
Let me know if you have any questions!
Simply saying "hello" again. Since I first and last posted, I was compelled to move to a new location within Chicago. Beyond that that, my original post remains mostly the same. I have been available for work since September 2016; it is now December 2019. If you need more information, feel free to contact me privately if you can. Thanks!
Hi Im new to this dev community. Ive been programming for about 6 years. I studied Electrical Engineering but saw the light pretty early on and became a programmer. Im excited to share, read, and learn from everyone on here. Thanks!
Hi. I'm Katlego Phiri from Johannesburg, South Africa. I'm currently a student from the University Of Johannesburg studying BSc in Physics and Mathematics. I took computer science on my first year as an additional course but I realised I don't like doing coding formally and so after I have learnt C++, I decided to teach myself other programming languages like Python which is what I'm learning now.
I'm looking forward to develop my skills as "a programmer" and hoping this platform will help.

Dev.to said I should say hello. So, hello... newbie here. Are newbies allowed?
Newbies super duper allowed!
Don’t be shy to ask questions on any posts.
Thanks! I might just take up on this! Just so everyone knows where I am - I picked up Free Code Camp about 5 weeks ago, now onto Node.js and hoping to finish the basics of Back-end soon!
Back-end and Front-end are like, well, An Elephant and Orange Juice!
Hi there, I'm Justin and I'm from Sydney, Australia! I'm currently a CS student and working as a Cybersecurity Engineer.
I learn about this place from a tweet and I decided to check it out. I'm really glad I did because this is honestly one of the most positive dev community I have seen so I'm keen to stick around!
Welcome! :)

Hello, my name is up there ^ and I have been enjoying the hell out of this site. I've found so many useful articles here I only wish I had more time in the day to read them!
I am a Designer and Front End Developer in Raleigh. Engaged speaker and developer within my community. I am a mother of one human and two danes. I enjoy all development that involves design and code. Not a fan of backend (because it's void of visual candy...sorry).
I would love to start writing articles for the dev community and continue reading what you all put out there.
Hey everyone! I'm Henry from New Haven, CT. I just recently started a job as a DevOps Engineer after leaving a "jack of all trades" post with the US District Courts. I'm excited to keep learning everything I can about process automation and plan on dropping a lot of posts on here about what I find. I'm definitely new-ish to the space, but there's always someone who knows less who might glean something great from what I write!
Hi :)
I'm Gaute (just pretend you know how that is pronounced) from Norway.
I'm all over the stack with web, backend, mobile development. I've already written some blogs on my home page gaute.app, but now I'll try to also post some content here. Feels a bit scary since I have read so many great articles here on dev.to
👋
Welcome Gaute!
The posts you have on your blog seem great, so I'm sure you'll do well here 😊
Hi all, I’m a new dev in the industry. My background is self-taught but I have a couple years of experience from a local community college (back when I was a mechanical engineering major). I found my way here based on an article that weighed the pros and cons of dev.to and medium.com. I’m looking for a place to blog about the lessons and tips I learn along my journey. 😬
Hey, I'm Aadi, I'm 17. I really like automating things. I won Google Code-in in 2017 and made a one page Python script to show me the lyrics of whatever song is playing on Spotify. I called it SwagLyrics and low-key started doing whatever I could to improve it. It got featured in Google Code-in 2018 and I'm actually mentoring a very interesting project on it in Google Summer of Code! You can check it out here (I'd really love feedback!) and the GSoC project here. I like doing non-tech stuff too :P
I've found I enjoy designing the solution more than implementing the solution itself but I think it's the overall experience of delivering a solution from an idea that makes it fun.
I think dev.to is cool because it really doesn't skimp on emojis <3
Hey there! I just learned about this awesome community and really liked the quality of the content, here. I started programming at around the age of 7, more than 35 years, ago (I'm old, I know). I own a CS degree and although I started my professional career as a programmer and spent most of my time at university coding in Java, nowadays I really prefer and love the web platform and modern Ecmascript. Of course whenever I don't love it, I hate it, because some browser vendor again broke our software library "yFiles for HTML", which I am working on most of the time as a software architect. ...at least when I'm not browsing the internet, trying to pick up new trends and ideas.

Hi everyone, I've been working in the world of programming for 5 years. But I feel that I still can't do anything. Now I just focus as a backend developer. And thanks dev.to, here I can meet great people as role models and maybe I can share a little thing about my experiences next time.
hi everyone , My name is Mohsen.I'm from city of Wine🍷(Shiraz,Iran),I used to play a game a lot and i told my self i should make one and i tried to learn stuff about making games and yeah that's when i felt that i suck at math(you know what i mean right?!😅) but what i learned is that i love coding.
happy coding everyone 🙇
Hi all, I am an old developer who spent most of his career writing embedded software. I've been working for many years on Windows CE and now I moved to Linux. I work for Toradex AG, in Switzerland, but I am Italian. I like to play with Arduino (I got some very old ones) and Raspberry Pi (I wrote a book about it, but it's in Italian) and with any kind of thing that could run software and doesn't look like a PC or a phone.
I wrote lots of drivers and low-level code. I am not scaring about using an oscilloscope to debug my code, but don't ask me to write a CSS stylesheet :)
I write most of my code in C/C++, but I love python and still struggle with the linux shell.
I like Visual Studio code and wrote a couple of scripts to integrate it with the container-based OS my company is developing: Torizon.
I am a volunteer in a local coderdojo and love to help kids learning how to code using scratch.
Hi everybody, my name is Saeed and I'm from Iran. I've recently started teaching myself coding in my free time after work. I'm taking CS50 right now (week3). I have a master degree in geophysics but I think developing coding skills will provide me with better opportunities.
Every day in my commute to work, I enjoy reading developers posts from dev.to and other sites in my news feed. I hope to learn as much as I can from your knowledgable posts. Cheers!
I am a web developer from Brazil who loves to learn and is constantly searching for growth. I have been in Montreal / Québec for 10 months and studying web development to work in this market here. I am a musician, I play guitar and acoustic guitar and I really did it in Brazil as a profession for 20 years. My passions are my family, the development of codes, music, basketball and friends. However developing codes is my current priority = D

Hi there. I'm Michael from Ukraine. After 2 weeks i'll be 40.Probably, the middle age crisis, maybe after 10 years working as a taxi driver i understood that i'm becoming stupid. Then, i started learning english. At that moment i decided: In case of success i'll be continue my education. In fact, i have two orher education, not related with programming or IT. Hello! My name is Winston and I am currently studying media systems. In my free time I often create small games with the godot engine. Currently I use amethyst to expand my rust knowledge. I love to learn new things, to experiment with languages I don't know and to help others.
Oh wait, you can use markdown for comments? This is awesome!
Hi! I am an experienced developer, doing remote front-end projects and on my spare time, trying to change HR things for the better. I am interested in helping people passing technical interviews, writing resumes and being confident about their skills.
While I am at it, I'll try to point out bad HR practices, and even worse, developers being too harsh during technical interviews.
Other than that, I live in Barcelona and I have two kids! I love photography and retrogames.
Ping me for beers and pinballs! Cheers guys 🙃
Hello World!
My name is Arnau, and I'm a software developer and SysAdmin from Spain.
I've been into computers for my entire life, even though I got my first computer at the age of twelve. Now I am (almost!) 24, and still loving it!
I hope to be useful to this awesome community!
Hey, everyone! I’m a Chinese-English translator and editor who started learning front-end development when I moved to NYC a few months ago.
I’ve tried to learn/code for at least a couple of hours every day, and even though I’m still at a basic level, it’s still exciting to build things that gradually grow more complex. Currently solidifying my skills with HTML, CSS, and JS, and planning to start with React once I’m more comfortable with JS.
Psyched for the meetup tonight!
Woot woot! Wish I could be there!
I'm part of TMSR - the place where well-thought Bitcoin innovation happens steadily, publicly, unfashionably and with inescapable, far-reaching consequences. From a new model of software development to a MMORPG and building up a working market for computer artists plus everything software and hardware in between, the focus is at all points on owning what you do and growing your knowledge and ability at a sustainable pace.
The programming language of choice is Ada (with a fully-documented rationale as to why Ada) but work with legacy code includes C, C++, Python, Lisp and potentially anything else really.
Come work with me on things that matter, if you want to matter too.
Or come first for a chat on irc (freenode) in #ossasepia as I'm usually around!
Welcome!
Thank You!
Hello everyone. I am Nishant from India. Although I am working as Fullstack Developer(Python/Django), passionate about Robotics, Computer vision, Deep Learning.
And still exploring and learning about all these sub-branches. And I would like to write programs in the future which will help everyone in some way.
This is late - but good to meet you Nishant! What type of Robotics are you most interested in?
Hi everyone, my name is Ryan and I'm a CS major that loves HTML5, CSS, JavaScript(still learning), python(still just a super noob), I am in the very beginning of my journey now and will be taking my first c++ this fall semester. I was told by a dear friend that the thing I was missing in my life was accountability and that I needed to seek out like-minded goal oriented individuals. He introduced me to the concept of an accountability partner and I really thought it was a great idea and thus began my seeking out programming and developer communities. I like to paint and make things with wood as well and really just enjoy helping people and making cool things. So I'm very excited to be here. superThanks!
I couldn't sleep last night so I started reading my article recommendations in my email. 6 hours later, I was convinced that I had to join DEV. I like the positive vibes.
I am Isaac from Kampala Uganda. I have been tinkering with software since my father bought our first desktop about 26 years ago. Something about getting a computer to do what people need it to just gets me going.
I am a Microsoft enthusiast so it's mostly C# and dot net for me. I would like to get more practical with the field though so practical DEV it is.
Hi! Im new to this community. Ive been a software engineer for about 6 years now. I love programming and creating value. Excited to start writing new articles on here. Received my degree in Electrical Engineering but have seen the light and focused on software.

Hej from Hamburg, Germany.
I’m a Frontend-Developer with nearly 20 years of experience, the last 3.5 years with ReactJs in large German based shipping company (and some other smaller projects). I’ve worked remotly from my very first project on, even when I was "CEO" and had some employees.
So.. Feel free to contact me for fun, help, conversation or jobs (currently searching for freelance positions around the world).
Hi hi! I'm a dev of 9 years who's finally going back and getting a CS degree. Turns out college math is hard!
Cool! What inspired you to do CS?
While I've got a solid practical knowledge of programming, I realized over the past few years that I was missing a lot of the theoretical stuff. Not a huge problem when I was mostly doing front-end dev work, but I've gotten further and further back into the stack (or rather, the scope of my work has expanded to full-stack) and it's become more and more of an issue. Stuff like algorithm design, graph theory, etc would be really helpful to know!
Plus, the CS program I'm doing has a game design concentration, and I've always been really interested in how we can apply game design to other (web apps, etc) interactions and UX.
Nice
Hello everyone, i am new to coding. I would love to say in a couple of years that i can code mostly anything though! My goal is to become a badass senior and be able to later teach children how to code! Until now i coded in Ruby, Rails, HTML, CSS, JS and some PHP.

Happy to join this dev community and nice to meet y'all! 🎉
Hello friends! My name's Cathy, and I live in New Zealand. I'm in the process of transitioning from being a business analyst/agile coach/scrum master in the tech industry to working as a developer or sysadmin. It's been a year in the making - and a struggle! I haven't reached that transition yet. Would love to hear of other folks' experience. So nice to be here :)
Hey Cathy! You're in the right place. Hopefully you'll receive some immersive learning experience through hanging out here and get over some humps in transitioning to dev/sysadmin. Good luck!
My DMs are open if you ever need a hand with anything.

So, hello anyone. I'm Ivan and all for me started with BASIC on a Sinclair ZX Spectrum 16k (proudly expanded up to 48k!), continued with a bunch of languages and technologies and ended up with... no, it's still continuing: I'm still learning new languages, because living is learning and learning is what we need in order to have fun and a role in this World (Hello again, World!).
Hi, my name's Piotr and I'm from Poland. I'm Web Developer with love to JavaScript stuff. I also write posts on my personal blog: blog.piotrnalepa.pl where I share my knowledge in Polish, because I have a mission to educate Polish devs who doesn't know English well enough.
Hello everybody,
Just found this place in a Gitter thread and quickly enrolled.
As mentioned I am a dev with a LAMP background but since las autumn turned to Node for a big project and I love it.
Same path as me :) hope we can help each other out on this journey!
Yep, after many (really many) on PHP based projects, being a Prestashop ambassador for my country, I turned to node and and enjoy it more. Now 50% of my work hours are for node based stuff and keep the remaining 50% for my regular clients on LAMP stack.
Saw your link on sails Gitter for the passport FB auth and got here.
Thank you for the article insight, as it happens I'll have to use a social login for my current node project (sails based)and your insight is very useful.
Worked with CakePHP for the last 10 years and initially planned to switch to Symfony, but got interested in node and now commited to SailsJS and Node (really loving it so far, even though the switch has been harder than initially thought).
I wrote the Facebook and Google Login (with Passport) tutorial as I struggled to understand how passport integrates with sailsjs and in general (the middleware part was new to me as well). I wrote the passportcontroller in action1 instead of action 2 as I like having it in one file instead spread out over more.
Well, I am not that lucky, will have to dig in deeper into Symfony as the main eCommerce platform my LAMP clients are using is Prestashop which current version is half (100% planned for the future) based on Symfony.
But I find the node environment more refreshing.
I also like sails though I see some shortcomings with the parasails wraapper when trying to integrate third-party Vue
multi components packages. This is why I did the current project's frontend with parasails but for the backend I switched to plain Vue as a separate application.
Hi everyone,my name is Jorge, nice to meet you all. I'm from Brazil, actually I love web development and work with frontend and backand.

Hi All!
I am Jesse Armstrong

Glad to be a part of dev.to. Thanks "dev.to" for every thing they are doing for our community. Always happy to help.
Hi to all. I am not a classic developer but a very interested project guy with some programming skills to communicate properly with my boss and developers. Beside that I have some skills in HTML, CSS, Javascript (just beginning with this seriously). When I have spare time I am programming with Delphi, also to understand how my company mates are ticking. Actually I try to figure out, if and how MS Azure can help our company to step further. I hope to get some new ideas here and find friendly people as promised.
Hey everyone! I am Vidhi and have finally joined dev.to after months of reading posts on the platform.
Really looking forward to getting to know the devs here and getting to share knowledge and listen to all the wonderful ideas.

Hi everybody,
My name is Thorsten. I am employed as a junior backend dev for TYPO3 and php. I am professional since 2016 and still feel like a noob while coding. I was thought coding on C and C# during my apprenticeship between 2013 and end of 2015. Now I work nearly on the full stack on the web from php, MySQL, TYPO3s fluid and extbase, to HTML, CSS and JS/jQuery, as well as on the terminal with bash-scripting.
I like and use Linux for 20 years now. I still try to find my way and place in this profession.
Welcome to DEV Thorsten, hope you enjoy the site!
Hi everyone! My name is Conrad and I've been a web developer for ages but never blogged before.
This will change now! I've lurked on dev.to for a while and find it a really welcoming & friendly place so I'm building myself up to post my first article here, and see how it goes 😬🤓
Hey all! I'm Ashley from Ohio, USA: home of the Buckeyes, the Browns, and the Butter Cow.
I have a BS in CS and I currently work as a Business Intelligence analyst in the financial industry utilizing Microsoft SQL development (SSMS, SSIS). I dabbled in different languages in college (HTML/CSS/JavaScript, Ruby, Java, Python, C#), but I haven't really worked with them since I graduated and started my job. I'm working on relearning some of those more proficiently, as well as learning new concepts that I can use in my current job and future personal projects.
Can't wait to utilize the knowledge of this community to expand my horizons in the tech world and to DEV-elop (sorry for the bad pun) some potential 'codeships' along the way!
Hello, my name is Nikita and I am from Saint-Petersburg, Russia.
Software Engineer with more than 10 years experience, worked as Automation engineer for 8 years. Now I am creating new projects with wide range of equipment and technologies, SCADA systems, modernize existing automation projects. I create client-server applications with Javascript (VueJS), Python, MySQL. So, I am working on edge of IT technologies and industrial process automation (at the moment I am working at Nokian Tyres). My hobby is coding, hockey, psychology.
Hello Nikita, welcome to DEV! What are some of the most difficult parts of industrial process automation? That world has always been interesting to me - making stuff actually move and work in the real world seems like a challenge :)
Hi all. I'm Monal from India. I'm a final year student in my B.Tech degree.
I love programming and web development specially backend development.
I hope to learn new things and also kickstart blogging.
Hi, guys! My name is Vitalik. I love coding. JS, CSS, HTML is my hobby. I work as an engineer in construction field. Maybe one day I'll menage to merge my hobby and my work. I am glad to be here and learn from you.
Hello everyone. I am Divyesh and I am studying Master's in Computer Science. "I love javascript" but now I am learning LISP which could turn out to be bad for the former claim. I really enjoy web and game development. So, basically game development for web is the sweet spot for me. I have written a few blogs and learning to write better and I aim to write something that inspires my fellow developers.
Cheers to this super cool community!
Game development for the web is where it's at! Welcome to the community!
Thank you!
Hi everyone, Mys name's Mamitiana and I'm from Madagasikara. I love playing with Javascript and all thechnologies that came from it. I was looking for how to use flexbox with react and then i found this network. So happy to be here, and i hope i'll grow with you all.
Hey everyone. My name is Dakota. Somewhat new to programming (took some C++ in school, made a couple “websites” for fun that I didn’t do anything with, lots of VBA with excel for my current job), and looking to hopefully make this a full time gig.
A bit about me, I’m currently a Chemical Engineer for a large oil and gas company, and have done drilling and completions work for the last 7 years. Lately (the last few years anyways) I’ve been feeling a lack of satisfaction from work and realize it’s becaise of the nature of my work leaves me without anything tangible to show for my efforts. Sure I make a lot of spreadsheets and presentation but that’s about as close to something tangible that I work on. The few times I’ve made something with code I always felt a lot of satisfaction but of course always had in the back of my head that without formal schooling I wouldn’t be able to get my foot in my door with anyone.
Of course fast forward a couple years after seeing several success stories where folks were able to make a living as developers without formal schooling after having several projects to show and a desire to continuously learn, im starting to see this may be a good path for me.
Currently I’m learning iOS development, and I’ll likely sprinkle some more web development in there with the eventual goal that I can quit my job and get a more satisfying one in the tech industry. Of course I won’t be able to pursue development full time as I can’t quit my job until I have one lined up in the near future but I look forward to being involved in this community and learning tons over the coming months/years.
That’s the end of my long winded intro, but if anyone has any advice for a relatively new to developing developer as well as advice on switching industries after being in one for nearly a decade, I’m all ears.
Thanks
Where are you learning iOS development?
Ps: I actually just wrote an article on that:
How to change your career and finally become a programmer 🚀

Hello everyone! I am Nithin. I'm passionate about software development. It's been over a decade in the IT industry as a full stack developer. But I consider myself a beginner and always look forward to learn something new!
I still feel like a beginner too
I’m a web developer with over 5 years of programming of experience and 4 years of development experience. I code using JavaScript and Python, I make applications using Angular JS for client-side web applications Node Js & Express for backend, No SQL with MongoDB or Firebase, or SQL with My SQL for Database and Python currently learning IOT.
I just love to explore the tech world, I my self love programming and I am a programmer, I also am familiar with many developers communities and I love to chat with fellow developers in my free time, talking to developers of even higher knowledge level then my self, keeps me in my senses and I never forget that I am still nothing at all and there's still a long road for me to walk.
Hey! My name's Jake and I signed up because I've been super impressed with the quality and tone of discourse in this community. You seem like a supportive, thoughtful, righteous group of folks, and I'd love to join you!
In college I studied Arabic and Computer Science. These days I also dabble in the other facets of entrepreneurship: marketing, support, sales, management, etc. I still code every day though :)
Hey all. Getting fed up with Medium.com brought me here. Also, I never seem to be able to handle having my blog on a single platform for longer than a year. Time to change! I am Wilfred. I have been in the industry for more than 20 years, wearing all the hats you can imagine. The last decade I have been mostly working on startups. I like getting things done, and after having done Scala on two projects, it no longer seemed the fastest way to get things done, so I switched to Node. I like the ecosystem, don't necessarily like the language, but I'm okay. My background is in strongly typed languages, but I found switching to Node fairly comfortable. (But then again, we switched to CoffeeScript, in which everything is an expression, which generally makes me feel really happy.) I'm still hoping for a sensible alternative to TypeScript. Dabbled with ReasonML: there is a ton of things I like — but there are also some things I'm not all that fond of.
Hi everyone! I'm Samuel, from Spain. I love coding and improve my skills day by day. Currently I'm working mainly as PHP developer.
I would like to 'master' my knowledge about PHP (and another technologies like CSS, JS, Python...) and help others. If it possible, contribute to a non-profit project in a future that can change / helps the world.
Congrats for this awesome community! 👋
Hi Samuel! If you are interested in learning new tech na tool that I can say it is amazing for that is jhipster! Check it out! It's basically a generator that integrated many technologies so you can learn by playing around and creating a new project! Hope it helps you in your learning process!

Hi everyone! I'm Ram, and I'm from the US. I'm here at dev.to to learn a lot more about CS, particularly in the fields of data science and web dev, but I'm here to learn everything that I can. I hope to one day work on researching Virtual Reality.
Hey Ram!
Welcome to DEV! 😀
Hi guys! I'm an IT professional trying to do a switch to web development/devops, I've been playing a lot with react and kubernetes lately and I can't believe I didn't do it sooner! Been trying to find a cozy place for a while but I just heard about this site in a podcast. Seems perfect!
Greetings from Argentina
Hey, nice to be here. I'm Artur and I'm from Poland. I work as a backend developer with a few years of experience, mainly using PHP in my current job. I'm interested in learning some new language, targetting Java or other strong typed languages. Sometimes I'm doing frontend things too, I'm a super fan of Vue.js + TypeScript. Currently, I'm doing some side project with express.js to explore the node.js world.
Hey y'all!
I'm John, a Content Designer that works for Atlassian. I work on Bitbucket Cloud.
I'm here looking for ways to help developers get their jobs done when working with Bitbucket.
I'm also a coding hobbyist, and enjoy fiddling with Python, static site generators, and building plugins and widgets for Atlassian products.
I love connecting with folks, so look forward to meeting folks in this community.
Welcome! I remember I used to work a bit with Claire Maynard when I was at my previous company. Anywho, Atlassian is a cool company! Lots of great writers on the team, Sarah Goff-Dupont wrote some awesome stuff!
Hi all.
My name is Milos.
I'm a web developer currently working on an OpenSouce file manager, check it out on GitHub
I speak Javascript, PHP, Golang and few others.

Ah, I'm so happy this site has a 'night theme' :)
Hi everyone! My name's Carlos, I wound up here following an article by @macsikora , a guy I admire and had the great luck to work with, if only for a brief time.
I'm a sr full stack dev at a great fintech, and code for shits and giggles in my spare time.
I'm hugely pragmatic, to the point of getting in trouble for not caring enough about the kind of asinine little rules some people try to push to the codebase as an attempt to bring themselves into the limelight.
I understand this is a fun little place! Hope to see feedback from lots of you soon enough.
Hi guys, I'm new on here - I found you whilst googling an issue with an app I was building. I liked what I saw about the site and community from the beginning and it's steadily growing on me. Loving the unpretentious attitude permeating the site. Me? I'm a jack of all trades (React/Vue/Node/vanilla js, HTML5, a bit of PHP, MySQL/Mongodb/Firebase) and master of none! So You're bound to be seeing more of me on here, and I'm, of course, happy to help where I can.
Hi! 20-yr veteran software developer with a life coach certification. So while I love playing around with the latest functional programming trends, I’m also fascinated by the neuroscience of motivation and clear thinking. Fun times!!
Hi there ! I'm Oche. I'm originally from Nigeria but have been living in Russia for the past 7 years. I'm a Frontend developer. I'm also pursuing a masters degree in Computer Science. I'm looking forward to making new friends amongst you.
Great to have you here
Hello ... been lurking around dev.to for ages and have finally taken the plunge and joined you crazy lot of world changers.
Been doing this programming thing for over 20 years but don't let that fool you. I am still learning so much every day.
Funny story to set the tone. On one of my very first jobs I was at a client site (a hospital) and had to be sitting in the server room for some reason. Anyway the guy supervising me got me going on the task he wanted me to do and then left me to it.
I was working away and then had to shift in my seat and my knee knocked something and then this really weird noise of a whole bunch of fans started spinning down. I had turned of the main power to the whole email servers.
YAY ME!
Needless to say that the guy was back in the server room pretty quick and kicked me out and got to work fixing it all.
I felt pretty ordinary but I lived to tell the tale.
We all stuff up from time to time and hopefully you will do it when someone kind is your supervisor.
If you are a supervisor ... be that someone kind.
Cheers,
Nigel
Thanks for taking the plunge, and welcome!
I can only imagine your facial expression in this moment. Just... 🤨 to 😳

Hello all,
My name is Brett and I reside in Cocoa Beach Florida (USA). I spent about 15 years of my life as a professional in the music industry mostly as an audio engineer. During that time I did a lot of graphic design for bands and made drag-and-drop websites using small amounts of HTML and CSS to do exactly what I needed to. After getting sick of not seeing my kids as much as I would like to I decided to change careers. I wanted to do something that would retain my interest, as well as allow me to constantly learn as learning is an obsession of mine. Also, a friend of mine suggested that I get into software development.
I did work for a magazine and Media company for a year as a graphic designer and web developer. We hosted our own website and developed it through WordPress, also we had three other clients for web development that I did their sites as well. After leaving the company I decided to attend Treehouse online learning and really got nowhere, then after getting rejection letter after rejection letter I got discouraged enough to fall back to an industry I had worked as a day job while I was in the music industry... CNC Machining. Now I'm working my job and building a portfolio so that those rejection letters will turn into interview processes. Though I will be explaining more about that in a later blog post.
I think the idea of this community is amazing and I found a lot of very good reads on here. Hi everybody,
my name ist Thorsten and I live and work in Germany.
I am a Junior Backend Developer since 2016. Before that a was in an apprenticeship to become an IT- specialist for software development. There I was thought C, C# as well as MySQL in crash course like classes. It was fun but hard as well. Personally I use to use Linux for almost 20 years now, and I like it very much, also because it's open source and community driven.
Since 2016 I am employed and I develop in php on the TYPO3 framework (including FLUID and extbase, it's templating engine and extension API) as well as with HTML, CSS, MySQL and bash-Scripting.
We use docker here as container and local dev environments.
Though I am nearly a Fullstack Developer, but I still feel like a noob every day, especially, if there are harder Problems to solve. It also feels like I don't really "get into the framework" and its mass of classes and functions.
So I try very hard to get better every day, even if it feels soooooo slow, because there are just and only these 8 to 10 hours a day for practice.
I like reading through forums and platforms like this, because they help so much to develop my skills next to my practical work, and I sometimes find little gems and jewels which powerup my skills a little bit.
I appreciate every little help and contact as well as questions I may help with. Both are wonderful opportunities to develop my skills and the skills of the other.

Hello - my name is Ante Grgić. I live in Milwaukee, WI and work for a consulting firm in Chicago, IL as a client-facing software engineer. I don't have formal CS schooling, but have been coding since a young age for fun and have been blessed with a plethora of great mentors in my family and at my current firm. I'm passionate about web development, modern SPA frameworks and Typescript. Angular/ngrx has been my favorite for years, but my recent experience with Vue is giving my Angular preference a run for its money. Super intrigued by the concept of micro frontends and their role in a micro app architecture, and have been working on some experiments that I'd like to start writing about.
Excited to be here and looking forward to learning from you all!

Hey there, I'm a psychology student from scotland who is learning to code. I knew a bit of basic html & css when I was a kid because I used to try and create "cool" profile pages on piczo hahah. It was all very basic, so I've stared from the beginning with html. Right now I'm doing css and I'm hoping to move onto javascript soon. There's so many different languages out there and resources it feels a little overwhelming but I'm hoping to stick with it. I Would love to make some friends who are also starting out or who are experienced. ☺️

Hey all. I'm Tom from India. I'm currently a undergrad student in computer science and I chose it because of the passion of understanding how a computer basically works and also I love to code and build stuff. However I'm still in the tutorial purgatory of web dev because I don't know what to do after learning JavaScript. There are lot of frameworks to learn but I don't know with what I need to start and how to start.
I also like learning about machine learning and quantum computing.
Hey Tom, welcome to Dev.to
I hope we can help each other in this domain, I am also more into learning framework like Reactjs and learning JS currently.
It's nice to have you here!
Hi, I'm Graham from Ghana and a very passionate self taught cross platforms developer and UI designer. I love C# and does almost everything with it. Currently, I've begun a journey to master Kotlin because of its syntax and how it handles exceptions. Happy to be here
Hi all! My name is Luis Alfredo Chee, I'm from Nicaragua, I love to be a dev and I have several years doing it. Since my start I was working on web development and I have been doing work on frontend as well in backend. I have some experience but I don't want to stop to learn, so I keep moving on all the old and new stuffs that I still can't do.
Nice! You might've already discovered this, but do consider following dev.to/angular if you're not already.
Hi there! My name is Dan-Vy and I'm a Seattle native learning to code at Flatiron School. We just finished our first pair project creating a CLI application and had a blast. Looking forward to learning more and to start building programs in even more languages :)
Hey everyone.

Hi there, happy to find a community where presenting-oneself is encouraged!
I'm a software engineer from Paris where I work for a vintage marketplace and focus on all things backend and payments :) I have a strong passion for fintech & innovation in the payments sector. Out of office, I fiddle with Clojure which I use for 3D Printing.
See you in another thread!
Hi everyone! Just joined this site after hearing about it on a podcast (I think it was Adventures in Angular).
I've been programming professionally off and on for a long time, since first learning on a TRS-80 model I (gah, I am old). For most of my career I've been a professional trumpeter, but have shifted way more heavily into software development in the last few years, and loving it. There's something very cool about a job where I can work for a few hours straight and then be annoyed that I have to stop to go to the bathroom, lol!
Mostly doing Angular projects for clients on Upwork at the moment (and maintaining structuredpracticejournal.com), but also working on learning testing, Flutter, and generally writing better code.
Hi to everyone in the dev community. My name is Rafael and I am from Mexico. I love to solve problems and conding. My relationship with the proggraming language can go back to C++ and Visual Basic, languages that became essensial to the job that I was assigned. Nowadays I don't code as frecuent as before , and I am more focused on a NOC teams and SRE tasks, but I don't want to lose the touch with one of passions. So there is it.
Hi there! Nice to see you guys here!!!
I'm good at coding about Android and iOS to develop an application.
I'll keep read and write a post here so as much as I can.
It's sooooooo good to be here Haha.
Thank you for a warm welcome
Hello all, my name is Michael and what can I say, i love Javascript. I started learning to code about three years ago when I wanted to make my own VST plugin for FL Studio. I decided C++ was too deep for me so I learned Python. After tackling the basics, I wanted to actually make something besides a terminal program. I decided a web app was the way to go so I started learning javascript. After struggling with Django and Flask I realized I wouldn't ever have to write anything other than JS using Node and Express.
Flash forward to today and I'm trying to fill in some knowledge gaps with general web dev skills and keeping current with some latest technologies. I am currently working on a simple blog site with Gatsby and am planning another website featuring some audio processing with the help of P5.js and web audio api.
Hello everyone. My name is Michelle Schoofs and I'm from Milwaukee, WI. I am new to coding, taking courses through Skillcrush. I've built my own website, albeit a static one, but am working on making it reactive. I am currently unemployed and changing careers into a tech role with the goal of front-end web development. Really enjoying it. Still in the phase of 'it's not working, okay why is it working now'. Have to have patience with me, as this all new to me. Looking forward to gaining more insight here.
Hi all, my name is Bola and am from Nigeria.

Hi all. I stumbled upon dev.to while thinking about an idea to build a community specifically for JS developers. Now that I have found dev.to, I sure don't want to reinvent the wheel :) Looking forward to meet some great folks, talk about JavaScript, and share experiences.
My name is Varun, I am a co-founder at Koonchi and I live in India.
Hello from Tunisia!!(we have best beaches) My name is Dhia. I'm just a High-school student with a dream to create meaningful open-source software and library that solves many problems.
Computers have been my biggest passion since childhood though I couldn't build my own computer due little funding currently i have a Dell Laptop from 2009 with Arch Linux in it. Its a bit slow And can't charge I can code on it.
Greetings!
I had seen this around a bit but never really jumped in. But now I have copious spare time, so here I am.
I'm an infra engineer, and dabbling with iOS/macOS development on the side (specifically, my current project is shaving the yaks to getting a Winlink client going for iOS/macOS)
Looking forward to seeing what's going on here and learning some new stuff!
Hi devs, My name is C0deM@sK and I'm from Nigeria. I started in the Network and Security field of Computing and I moved on to teach myself about Server and Database Administration. I practically taught myself how to program using Python and I'm deeply fascinated with the things I can create using Python especially in the area of Web Applications and Artificial Intelligence. I'm actively learning different technologies and working on becoming a DevOps expert. My vision in all of this is to solve problems of this age using computing technologies and to impart the same knowledge I have acquired to as many people as possible.
Thanks for having me here.
Hi all, my name is Björn. I am a Backend Developer who works mainly in the Java ecosystem. I have a thing for clean code and always pester everyone about code clarity, structure and efficiency. Sometimes I like the code more than the thing it is written for.
Hi all, I'm Indonesian and currently working in Tokyo, Japan as Frontend Engineer. I like to learn many things, although I'm struggling with my procrastination. I hope I can be better developer that programs faster and brings a lot of new tech and improvements to the team.
I'm interested in Flutter and need to work on acquiring competitive programming skills.
Hello everybody,
My name is Alexandre, I am a French web developer and a Joomla! specialist. I stumble upon this website by viewing a tweet on "HTML can do that?" which was by the awesome. I started coding when I was in highschool on my TI89 a Texas Instrument graphic calculator. With a friend, we even built a "network" version of a FPS using a cable link to two calculators lots of fun. I am willing to learn from all of you. Take care and have a nice day.
Hola

Hi I'm Bianca, a junior developer from Manila. I loved coding since I was a kid, and now I'm getting myself used to the ins and out of the tech industry and the dev community! I always loved building the front end, but I would love to learn more about how I can improve it: applying UX principles, accessibility, speed, etc. As a junior, I also want to get my hands dirty with backend apps and APIs and deployment as well. Looking forward to learn a lot and to share what I've learned to you guys!

Happy to have joined and looking forward to learning new things through your posts/articles.
A bio on myself: I'm from Canada. I majored in Computer Science and I'm currently working as a web developer (my passion in life along with nature ♥️). I truly enjoy learning and coding.
Hey guys, I have been traveling and have built a few software products. The problem is I love coding and I just like to build things! I despise the whole marketing part of it.
I have finally come around that marketing is necessary and it does provide value if I can create meaningful posts about what I have learned and gain some traction with social media exposure.

Hi all! I'm Cory, from the USA. I first started in the dev world back in the early 90s coding BBS'. You remember those things right? 🤣 Dial in and look at a spreadsheet or bad graphics. From there I started learning html using the angelfire website. Everything kind of went on the back burner though when I joined the army. I was able to keep up with computers themselves, if not development. I've been a musician for 30 some years so afterwards I started my career path as musician and graphic designer and eventually basic web pages again. I never got much bolder until recent years, after becoming disabled, when I had just enough knowledge to fix a few things for a company, and they hired me on. So I'm in the process of learning again.
Hello World!!
Hello Angela, welcome to DEV! 😊

Every day in my commute to work, I enjoy reading developers posts from dev.to and other sites in my news feed. I hope to learn as much as I can from your knowledgable posts. Cheers!
Welcome Saeed!
Hi everyone. My name is John and I'm from Chile!
I love automating processes and solving business problems using technology. I'm an industrial & CS engineer, and have been into web & mobile development since early 2012.
I love being able to transform companies by digitizing them and creating digital-automated processes to things that were done manually before.
The future excites me as I think no one really knows where technology will take us.
Hello world!
👋🏽
Hey everyone 👋🏽, my name is Joel and I'm from Finland 🇫🇮. I'm relatively new to web development journey, having gotten into programming around the turn of the year. I'll be starting my CS degree next month, which is what I'll be dedicating a lot of my time to.
The journey has been great so far, but I felt that the thing missing for me was a community of like-minded people. I've been hearing a lot of good things about dev.to, and have benefited from many of the articles posted on here (a huge thank you to everyone). I recently heard Ben (Halpern) talk about the platform and community more in-depth on a podcast I was listening to and decided to finally drop by. From everything I've read so far, this seems to be just about the most welcoming developer community.
As for tech, I use JavaScript most of the time, learning both front & back-end technologies. Completing a CS degree means that I jump from one thing to another, but I try to stack related knowledge through personal projects. In all honesty, it's often a struggle not to be overwhelmed. On the other hand, it's fascinating enough to provide me the motivation to push through.
But yeah, really excited to be here. I'm also amazed at how varied the backgrounds of people here are - really cool. Let's keep on learning and sharing together 😊
Hi my name is Son and I'm from Paris. I found dev.to on product hunt and quite like the design :).
A bit about myself: after working in multiple startups, I finally decided to found my own startup SimpleLogin.io, a login solution that respects user privacy and "fairer" to website owners :). Hope I can learn a lot from you guys here!

I use Linux/bash/vim, and I like cats :)
Nice to meet you all,
Gio

Hello, Dev community!
My name is Thaddeus and I am a web developer (in love with VueJS) and instructor at Fort Hays State University. My workplace gives me plenty of software ideas and a generous amount of time to pursue them. I released a class participation management application this year for my colleagues and plan to release it more widely at the end of the year.
I look forward to learning from others and finding avenues for writing here.
Hi all. My name is Aleksey and I'm from Russia. I work with Python and React, I like to learn new technologies. I made a universal SPA (transpiler) that gets the shape (markup and controllers) in json format. This allowed without changing the SPA to draw dozens of forms stored on the server in the Python dictionaries.
But we always want more: I made a multi-window application, it's quite simple. But I want something else: I taught SPA on different tabs to interact via websocket (30 lines on Python and 50 on js). Further more interesting: 2 - screen layout manager, on one screen you arrange elements (tags, controls, fragments, components), on another screen (another computer/tablet/smartphone) in real time you see the result. Double transpiler: SVG to Python dictionary and JSON, json to React (all this 1 small SPA). What's next? I want to connect voice control of a marking.

Hi. My name is Jesús and I live in A Coruña, Galicia, Spain. I love coding myself and I also love teaching others to code. And that’s why I am a professor and I am starting again in the software developing world. I work mainly with JavaScript and Angular, but I know and teach other languages and technologies like Java, Python, HTML & CSS, Unity, Android, etc.
I hope I can learn a lot here.
Hello dev.to community! My name is Colin and I'm a "full stack"/"schizophrenic" developer. Which means I enjoy a multitude of platforms and can't quite decide exactly which is best. I'm currently traveling the US working remotely. I absolutely love developing...but also get exhausted by it (part of the fun I guess). I've been reading articles here for a while now but decided to jump in and get involved today!
Hi everyone, My names is Adedeji, I'm from Nigeria. I just read an article and I loved it so I decided to sign up and do more.
I am currently working as a solutions architect in Abuja using python, Java, PHP, MEAN, MySQL and a number of other technologies.
My passion is designing enterprise grade software that can scale at any level be it small or medium scale organization as well as large scale enterprise.
I hope to learn new stuff here as well. Looking forward to the experience.
Hello everyone, my name is Gonzalo and I like learning about new technologies as well as understanding some of the best practices in software development. My belief is that there isn't a "silver bullet" for everything but instead we play a game of trade-offs. I currently do web development which I think is really interesting because in this day an age lots of powerful things can be built on a web page. I'm also tinkering with some cool animations such as parallax and learning to use Flexbox and CSS3.
Hey 👋🏻...keep finding interesting posts here as I transition from out of Ops-centric world to more DevOps. Work with Azure Stack, interests include IoT, AI, ML. Interested in learning more of something, just can’t/haven’t decided on what. Here for inspiration, encouragement, support, comradeship...both giving and getting...in no particular order.

Hi! I'm Adrian, I'm 23 and as everyone here, I'm new to the community. I was attracted to dev.to because I like writing and saw many other people doing so in here! So I'll try and stick here and maybe write something and see where it goes from there!
I like coding as everyone here does (At least the majority I'm guessing) and I'm currently working in a project for my social service in college so they can use it at the neurosciences institute in one of their campus! From there, I'm waiting for a job offer that it's currently cooking (as in I applied, passed many filters and interviews, and waiting for my offer) and I'm planning to invest my later available free time learning as much machine learning as I can!
Hi everyone my name is sadiq muhammad a computer science student from Nigeria (newbie In C#) looking for a mentor.
Welcome Sadiq!

Hi y'all my name is Mamadou,a 2nd year student in CS. I am From Senegal, West Africa.

Lately I've been thinking if I should focus on backend (mainly PHP that am getting "a good hold of") or python development(which I enjoy the simplicity).
What are your thoughts on that?
Hi Devs,
I'm Nengak Dakup, from Nigeria, a computer engineering student.
I love building cool stuff that'll be fun for others to use.

Hey all,
I am Irfan from India. I am a Software Engineer and I work mostly on Backend and Infra. I am thrilled to join this awesome community of coding Ninjas. This is such a nice place to share and learn. The people here are so nice. Have fun and happy coding!!!
I started building websites professionally at a startup ISP in a college town in Texas way back in 1994, when Netscape Navigator was all the new rage. All we had to work with was tables and a few animated gifs, 'under construction'. I graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering, which I turned into a lifetime of loving the constant change, challenge, education, and competition.
I've worked for a less than average number of companies in the past 25 years, and looking back the most important thing for both the company, but mostly my personal happiness and satisfaction, was pride in my work, it's the only thing you have, and it follows you forever, it's the only thing you have, and it follows you forever.
I'm currently working with, ReactJS and MongoDB for a major site that processes over 200 purchases a second.
Never stop moving forward, never stop learning new things, it's the one thing no one can take from you.
Learn the power of no, they'll learn, they just need to know what to expect. If they can't handle it, move on, their loss not yours.
Anyway glad to be apart of the group.

Hello everyone! My name is Ian, i'm an immigrant from Jamaica currently living in Houston, Tx. I am 21 years old and have been working part-time for a few years but a couple months ago I realized that was not for me at all. I decided to quit and focus all my effort on becoming a part of world(programming and the broader computer science world) that I've always admired and dreamed about.
I'm teaching myself JavaScript, React.js, and all things web development. It's only been a little while but wow i'm already creating things, creating things! They're small and limited, but totally fun and self-indulgent. The aim though is to be able to make things that are useful for as many people as possible.
I discovered this website through a reddit post and immediately fell in love. I'm really looking forward to being apart of this community, sharing my experiences and learning from all of yours as well.
