Hi, Iβm here to share my experience, contributing with OSS and learn about high level development.
Hi guys!
I've been reading dev.to for quite a long time and now is time to be a part of it!
Glad to have ya! Welcome aboard!
Just joined - I learned of dev.to from a posting by @szabgab to a Facebook group Programming Perl. I (mostly) retired around a decade ago and now do occassional contract work. I started off as a coder, then Unix sys-admin, computer room design, senior mangement, and then back to doing what I love: coding.
I'm here because this looks like a great place for discussion about coding, learning stuff, improving my skills, and maybe meeting like-minded people.
I'm currently farting around writing a ulbackup (Universal Linux backup) program as an excuse to (re)learn Python and Amazon object store services (AWS S3). It will track backups of regular files via a sqlite3 database and create data for recreating special files for restores (like block and character files, etc) where the backup store may not understand Linux filesystems or file attributes. It will use a dynamically loaded library, as specified by a config file, that understands the underlying backup store (in this case AWS S3 REST API). Then you can easily point to a different config file to point to a different library for a different backup service.
This will probably go nowhere - it's just for fun while I'm goofing off in Mexico avoiding the Canadian winter.
Welcome to DEV!
