Great work, but, honestly, I don't much like it for a few reasons.

  • The font on the homepage is completely new. And, posts have that funky font which I really like. So, two completely different types of fonts?
  • It's hard to read the sections without boxes.

It feels like the homepage is another website, not DEV.

Sorry, but that's my honest feeling. Anyone else feels that? 🤔

I hear you. As mentioned in the post - this work is definitely a step towards some bigger changes so I understand it may feel a bit awkward right now.

In terms of font - the actual font face should be the same (if its not, its a bug and I’ll check it). What has changed though is sizing and weight. We’re on the way to build a typography system actually so it should eventually be pretty consistent across all views AND - what’s more important - should feel like you’re on DEV no matter what view you’re looking at.

Also, you’re right - these changes are mainly for home page right now but other views are in the roadmap as well.

Great! I'm glad to hear that.

Font: I tried clearing cache but still the posts and homepage have two different fonts.

Here's what I see in the computed styles.

Post:

font-family: Palatino, 'Palatino Linotype', 'Palatino LT STD', 'Book Antiqua', Georgia, serif;

Home:

font-family: -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, "Segoe UI", Roboto, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif, "Apple Color Emoji", "Segoe UI Emoji", "Segoe UI Symbol"

So to be clear, did you intend to change the font of the home?

Oh sorry, I misunderstood you. Actually that font was always different :) We haven’t changed ANY font face, just weights and sizes.

Btw. You can adjust font of article in your UX settings page.

Previously the fonts in the post and the homepage were the same.

Does changing the font from settings change the font of both of them? or just posts?

Just posts - it’s for reading experience. Some people prefer for example serif fonts. But having this choice doesn’t make much sense for other typical UI elements.

One tiny change we've just delivered is adding subtle divider between each section in sidebar. That should help differentiate them, at least a little bit. Still no boxes, but the current plan is to bring them back at some point but in slightly different form. So why no boxes right now? We had to do some cleanups first 🤷‍♂️ so it's like intermediate step.
