What's on your VS Code home screen?

The first visual you see when you open a new window

Is it high in information density or sparse and 🧘 zen? Educational, fully of entertainment, strictly work related, or possibly all of the above? What gets us into the zone 🎧 and helps unwind after a long stretch of coding?

Give Marquee a spin - let us know what you think 🀩

These and many other questions led us to πŸ‘©β€πŸŽ¨ design Marquee. We intentionally decided to leave options open. As with many other aspects in life, there's no one πŸ₯‡ home screen to rule them all. Marquee strives to be as functional as it is customizable to make working inside VS Code more productive 🦾 for you. Above all, we want you to take the 🚘 driver's seat.

😝 Love procrastination and zeitgeist?

Me too! Go with the mini forecast and all news.

Mini forecast & all news

πŸ™ˆ Rather stay hyper-focused because your susceptible to distractions?

Turn on todos and the scratchpad. No weather and definitely no news!

Hyper-focus with no entertainment

🌡 Love the outdoors and can't wait to go outside?

Wrapping up work before enjoying nature? Totally fair, that beautiful sonoran desert. Maximize the background image and keep tabs on the weather.

Natural beauty and the outdoors

πŸ™‹ What does your heart desire?

Show us your home screen and for sure let us know πŸ“¨ if there is anything else your developer heart desires. Be sure to install Marquee so you can keep Xzibit and us posted on your home screen customizations. We'd love πŸ’š to hear from you. Leave a comment below, click the "Give Feedback" button in Marquee, or hit us up on twitter.

I actually didn't know that you could get a custom home screen on the VSCode home screen lol.

I actually don't see that home screen that often because when I open Code I opened with whatever file I'll be working, like the times when is not an actual code file is the screen of Code's new features or "What's new in this version"

Marquee and Xzibit collaborated to put a homescreen in your homescreen. JK! :-)

We designed Marquee to make the home screen experience not just more information but also more colorful and less stark. Also comes with neat features, like notes/todos, current weather forecast, etc. Wanna give it a try and let us know what you think, Juan?

Loved that Xzibit reference hahaha good times.
Imma put a note to remind me to use it this week. I'm curious about the todos part.

Startup Page

I set it to None, to make it work the way I wanted.

Agreed. The default welcome page is an informative at times but a little stark. Take Marquee for a spin and tell us what you think, Pacharapol!

I dig the workspace-specific todos. I'm giving Marquee a shot for sure!

So much more to discover in Marquee. The workspace-specific todos are near the top of my favorite features too, Adnan.

Well, Jalal, technically it's one extension away. However, now you know installing Marquee unlocks that for you.

TIL VSCode has a home screen.

To me it's always been whatever file I worked on last πŸ˜‚
