Introducing the Venus Upgrade: A New Era for Sonr

A leap forward in secure, self-custody digital identity and assets management

The landscape of digital identity and asset management has seen its fair share of ups and downs over the years. In light of events like the FTX consumer exchange disaster, it's clear that crypto must retain its decentralized nature in order to position itself as a stable solution for the ongoing massive shift the financial world is witnessing. We must eliminate back doors that leave users vulnerable at the point of entry -  this is where Sonr's Venus upgrade comes in.

Quick Recap of Community Projects and Feedback

We've listened to the feedback we received from developers at hackathons last year, and they wanted a much faster protocol with a React library.

Talented first-time blockchain developers in college have built some incredible projects prior to the Venus upgrade that showcases the versatility and potential of Sonr:

  • Chargr: A robot car that uses our Channels to find the phone with the lowest amount of charge, ensuring optimal charging management.
  • Radr: A user-incentivized ad network similar to the reward system in the Brave browser, powered by Sonr ID.
  • Ptolemy: A reputation scoring system for Cosmos validator nodes that uses Sonr's DID documents.

Introducing the Venus Upgrade and Motor.js

Over the past three months, Sonr has gone into stealth mode to create Motor.js and bring the Venus upgrade to life. This groundbreaking update offers a 360x faster execution with an average time of ~0.7 seconds, and support for native Bitcoin/Ethereum-generated wallets.

Key enhancements in the Venus upgrade include:

  • The MPC protocol now runs on a closed-circuit P2P network with IPFS backup, ensuring a more secure and robust system.
  • User authorization is entirely managed by WebAuthn, providing stronger security and a smoother user experience.
  • Implementation of ECIES-based asymmetric encryption for key shares, further enhancing the security of the system and protecting user data.

The Venus upgrade marks a significant milestone in Sonr's journey to provide a secure, easy-to-use platform for self-custody and verified digital identity.
