Breaking down the data - Sitecore community around the world!

Every now and then, I start pulling together data to look at what's happening in our community and what topics are trending, and this week I happened to be looking at some data around where Sitecorians find themselves in the world!

Community Forums

Let's look at the data for this site itself, with members from all over the world with different types of roles. Northern America leads the way, but Southern Asia is not far behind! The various regions of Europe add up to about 26% of the overall as well. I have some good Sitecore community friends in South America in that 1% (hello SUG Brazil!).

Pie chart - Community Portal Audience by Subcontinent. Subcontinent data breakdown shows: Northern America 31%, Southern Asia 23%, Northern Europe 10%, Western Europe 8%, Eastern Europe 5%, Southeast Asia 6%, Australasia 5%, Eastern Asia 4%, Southern Europe 3%, Western Asia 2%, South America 1%, Other 2%

Developer Portal

As a leader for Developer Relations, I wanted to see if this was true for our developer audience as well, so I looked at the data for the Developer Portal. The distribution was really similar, though with some minor differences in percentages. Southern Asia sits at 22% instead of 23% and the European subcontinents now add up to 28%. All in all, though, it seems our developer audience distribution matches pretty well with our community forums distribution.

Subcontinent data breakdown shows: Northern America 31%, Southern Asia 22%, Northern Europe 10%, Western Europe 9%, Eastern Europe 5%, Southeast Asia 5%, Australasia 4%, Eastern Asia 4%, Southern Europe 3%, Western Asia 3%, South America 1%, Other 2%

I hope you found this type of thing interesting, I always do! If you are wondering where you fall into these subcontinents, these are pulled from Google Analytics, so they match to their subcontinent definitions. You can check the mapping of countries to subcontinents in the Google developer docs: https://developers.google.com/chart/interactive/docs/gallery/geochart#continent-hierarchy-and-codes
