Reflections on a rainy day: Periodic Surges of Confidence in the land of the unknown and moving

With almost 7 years in the tech field, It became clear to me that the anxiety of not knowing in this field does not disappear completely.

Facing new and unknown challenges at work is part of the job and I guess feeling anxious about how fast the tech ecosystem is moving is another bullet point in that ever growing job description.

Yes the number of projects and the amount of knowledge learned is how to measure experience in a CV, but since anxiety is a feeling finding another feeling to counter it might be a solution for calmer days.

Taking a deep breath and reflecting on other moments sometimes help with this. Those moments that are not initially noticeable where a concept is clear enough and thinking twice is not needed. Those moments of confidence in the pool of uncertainty. Those moments where you conjure a line of code out of memory or unconsciously use a concept in your code without looking it up.

Keeping a mental note of these moments and sometimes even writing them down, can gradually calm the mind. Knowing that this feeling of non-confidence is not individual but a global phenomena can help reduce anxiety even more.

Keep coding, keep reflecting...
