Do you have a developer portfolio that could use a second set of eyes?
In a few weeks I'll be doing my second annual portfolio review livestream on my YouTube channel.
Last year's session was a smash success and I'm excited to review even more portfolios this year!
Here is our livestream from last year:
Some things I assess during the review:
- First impressions
- Messaging
- UX/UI
- Projects: strengths & improvement areas
- Contact forms
- Browser compatibility
- More
It takes a lot of bravery to put your work in front of the world, but in return you will get a ton of practical, actionable advice from a working software developer who's helped developers just like you land a dev job.
Sound interesting? Leave a link to your portfolio in the comments below.
Alternately, you can send it via email (realtoughcandy at gmail dot com).
The deadline for submission is Thursday, January 7th at 11 pm CST.
The exact time of the livestream will be announced soon, on the following platforms:
- Dev.to
- My Community tab on YouTube
- RealToughCandy.io
Be sure to subscribe to my YouTube channel so you don't miss the stream!
Looking forward to it!

Great idea, thanks for doing this!

I was just thinking just the other day if there is anything that I need to fix or update on my website, so it's good to have another pair of eyes to look at it.
The site is built with Jekyll, uses some minimal JS, and it's PWA.
Looking forward to your review!
Nice choice with Jekyll! That was what I used for my first portfolio & really enjoyed it (even though Liquid freaked me out at first 🙃)
Oh yeah, Liquid freaked me out, too. I think I kinda butchered it, but I can do edits and add new pages fast, so I guess that is okay 😅
What an awesome idea! My landing page is under construction, but in the meantime my resume page is sort of my main portfolio. I'd love for you to check it out!

May want to add a sneaky Z-index on the mobile burger so the other content doesn't overlap it :) looks good though
Thanks I will apply that asap 😊
Great idea!
This is the site that I built to showcase my open-source eBook and participate in the DigitalOcean and DEV Hackathon 🙌
ebook.bobby.sh/
It has an interactive training page based on Katacoda:

The main design was done with TailwindCSS and Tails!
Thank you for doing this! Here is my blog/portfolio thing: lesleylai.info/
It is built with Gatsby. I am not focusing on frontend web dev so my website probably looks a lot lamer compare to some other people. It would be great if I can get some feedback on how to improve!
Awesome idea, looking forward to it! My personal portfolio is at micahlindley.com. It's slightly outdated as far as content goes, but I've worked hard on the design side. 🎉
Hello. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
It takes indeed bravery to put yourself out for criticism but as you said constructive feedback is the best we could get.
Here is my site where i upload the projects that i make:

Thanks
That's a really interesting idea, thank you for doing this.
I've recently added a CV section to my personal site and have been doing some work to try and improve the performance / accessibility across the site. It's a bit light on content still, but I would definitely appreciate some feedback.

I would love to! I'm not currently working in the industry as a Developer but I'm grinding my way there.
Here's my simple website:

Excellent!
Looking through some of these amazing sites, I can already see how my own portfolio needs improving 🤔 I've been taking courses for a long time and could really use some pointers. I'd like to be employable someday😊 Thank you for offering this!
Just a simple dark themed Bootstrap site with a carousel for projects and sidebar navigation on large screens.

Wow, Great Idea !! Is this a coincidence that I am just in the middle of creating one?.. I would highly appreciate some feedback.

Note: I'm backend developer and front end Is not my strong suit. Thus, I'm working on show casing my backend skills. This portfolio is about me being able to control a major part of my site from an admin panel. For now, I am using a template customised to my needs.
PS: It is work in progres.
Love the article! I just read it today. I hope I'm not late to post my portfolio. I just get stuck in from the HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, because of learning deep-diving into advanced programming (Still on JS).

Happy New Year to everyone! Stay safe, always.

I made a simple resume page in plain vanilla back when I was looking for an internship.
There is a simple terminal to make things a bit more fun but I still need to add a section with my most recent projects.
Looking forward to hearing your impressions🙏
