I'm excited to announce that I have joined the Forem team as a Principal Systems Engineer! I will be helping lay the systems-side foundation for Forem to run on. I've spent the last 10 years working on infrastructure in SaaS and web hosting, and I can't wait to contribute and help build something great here!
I'm interested in finding ways for people and communities to have deeper, richer, more meaningful interactions, particularly as they scale. The Internet has done a wonderful job scaling and connecting people all over the world, but we as humans have not been able to scale ourselves with these new medias nearly as well. This is in part driven by the ad revenue models we see applied everywhere, most notably with companies like Facebook and Twitter. This dynamic is creating culture that feeds on outrage as a monetary reward, while simultaneously providing tremendous influence to those controlling these platforms. Forem is trying to build something very different, and it's something I feel very strongly has an opportunity to make a real impact in this regard.
I came to Forem because of this unique set of challenges coupled with a team that has a collective passion for trying to find ways to solve for them. I see an entire generation of kids growing up all over the world using almost exclusively open source software and hardware. Kids who are eager to find ways to improve the way of life for themselves and their communities. I want to help build a pathway into this ecosystem of sorts in a positive and productive way for them. We just need to give them the tools.
