I took an (online) test and I'm likely autistic. However I notice similar behaviour in my peers as well. My observation is that behaviour like mine is quite prevalent in software developers. If this is true, what is the explanation for it?

Short answer would be "no". That said, tech careers can be more-forgiving of a wide range of non-typical personalities (though, if you're in a team-oriented organization, deficits in reading social-queues can adversely impact your longevity or advancement within that organization).
