Greetings,
My name is ODOT and I am a addicted to Linux. LOL. For the year of 2024, I wanted to switch my developer setup. This is when I started to think of the OS itself. Do I really want to stay with Windows or do I want to take on a challenge. This is when I took heed to the awesome distros (distributions) of RasbianOS which is provided by Raspberry Pi Foundation.
The Raspberry Pi 4 is the device I am using to learn more about Linux now having it as primary use of workflow. The laptop used prior went down and I needed to get up and going for the new year. While using Raspbian I noticed that it is quite similar to Windows, except the file system. This is when I took a deep dive into the breakdown.
Once I understood how to navigate through the file system, I was able to get started with coding within a text editor called Nano. It's built within most if not all distro allowing me to practice something called Bash Scripting. Bash scripting allows me to start creating scripts that will help my offensive security, but I'll go more in depth on later posts. Bash has became quite a pleasure to work with for it shown me the basics of how to get a program to run in a command line. After making a few programs and working with ASCII art, it was time for me to jump back in the bag of works using Python.
The great thing about Raspberry Pi, is that the focus is centered on the programming language Python. Yes, you can use other programming languages, but Py is great for Pi. I used Python prior years so I am aware of the syntax enough to create. Started a project of many (which many devs do) just to refresh the mental notes, then began going forward with the the roadmap of Linux usage for careers.
A great career choice I found was IT because I have a background working in Tech Support for Verizon Wireless years ago. Another that came to mind was Cybersecurity which is a great career suggested by many in the Linux community. After both were examined including things like Help Desk, Tech Support and much more, I decided to go for Cyber Sec. I also began looking into security for systems. Understanding the many major cyber security instances and events, I now can see why the demand is high. Signed up for Try Hack Me, which is great platform for anyone wanting to get involved with cybersecurity as well. Pretty interesting field if you are a techie like me.
Cybersecurity careers look very high demand right now and with the study habits I have, yep I think I can make it happen. Right now I have the knowledge of Linux and also downloaded the distro Kali Linux, taking serious notes in regards to gaining a role. For this week, my goal is to start learning more about cybersecurity and getting into the brain of someone who works within. Why drives the passion of such field? Well... let's just say after traveling for quite some time going to many stores, my card info has been stolen over and over. Fraud has occurred many times and I have had to cancel many things because of the current times. Yea, I get it... life it hard, but damn yo... I am a honest working man. To scam someone who works day and night to move forward in life don't make sense. Yet it happened, and now I am ready to see what can I do to help the good fight.
Until next blog.
