My new GameBoy style portfolio

With great satisfaction, I am pleased to announce the launch of the first public version of my web portfolio, to which I have dedicated a lot of effort.

I decided to highlight my deep passion for video games, especially retro gaming, drawing inspiration for the site's UI from the graphics of old 8-bit GameBoy games.

I was excited about the idea of making the site interactive with elements of "gamification," albeit in a simple form at the moment. For example, if you visit the site from a computer, you can move the small sprite that represents me using the arrow keys.

In the top right, you will notice an icon that opens the settings menu, where you can modify the color palette and mute or reactivate sounds.

I have added English language support, so the site will automatically be displayed in English on systems and browsers different from Italian.

The site is not perfect yet, and I will continue to add small extras over time. However, I am pleased to share the link with you:

I hope you appreciate my work, and I invite you to take a look at the site. I will be grateful for any feedback you would like to share with me.

It produces wow-effect but the thing with "little Matt" is useless.
This thing is for push arrows and have a bit of fun.
Would be great to move this little Matt in a journey through your portfolio like this guy did rleonardi.com/interactive-resume/

Thanks for your feedback!
I'm studying in parallel how to make mini Matt interact with the entire UI

Yes, it would be great. I would like to see the result. I like an intersection of design and functionality

Exactly! If some interactivity is added, it would be sick

This is sick, I absolutely love it. Curious about the frameworks/engines used to build this if you don't mind sharing.

Thank you for your feedback!

Sure, I created my portfolio using the Construct engine + Javascript.

In JavaScript, I implemented a control script for WebKit and responsiveness.

🇬🇧 It's been a while since my last post ⏳, but I would like to inform everyone who has been following the #development of my #Gameboy-style #portfolio that I have made some improvements to the website. Specifically, I have updated the font to make it more readable, as some users found the previous one a bit difficult to read. 🖋️

Furthermore, I would like to announce that the next update, expected in two weeks, will include further enhancements to the #gamification of the portfolio.

🚀 Thank you for your attention, and as always, I am open to all your feedback 🙏 .

YOOOOOO, that's incredible! This is the portfolio of dreams. To echo many others, we'd be humbled to know the technologies/resources you used to create that. Also, your game The First Plague has similar vibes to the game Pathologic, based off the logo and description for it. Awesome job my friend 🤝

Hey there! Thank you so much for the enthusiastic response! I appreciate the kind words about my portfolio and The First Plague game. I used the Construct engine along with JavaScript to bring my portfolio to life. Regarding The First Plague, I wasn't aware of the game Pathologic. My game will be entirely in pixel art with a hopefully intriguing storyline. If you have any more questions about the technologies or resources I used, feel free to ask. Cheers! 🤝

Awesome, thanks so much for the info! Haven't ever heard of the Construct engine before. My friend works in Godot and I've thought about employing him for some cool low-res poly assets in my portfolio at some point. Pathologic is one of my favorite games, so I think of it any time I see a plague mask, haha

Can't wait to hear when TFP drops 🙌

I'm totally in love with it! I need more pages to play on 😂
The aesthetic was so catchy it took me a while to realize it was in Italian!
So please, someone give a prize to this man 🏆

This is amazing stuff - well done!!

I would just say - the font is a bit hard to read at a glance. If you intend to use this when applying for jobs, hiring managers don't have a lot of time to spend on individual applications, so it's important to make your portfolio as easy to read as possible.

Lastly, it's easy to scrape your email - it may not be a good idea to have this as text in the markup. An SVG or graphic might be better if you want to avoid those nasty spam bots.

Sisi, I already intend to improve the email button, it will be done in the next update.

Wow, that's a really nice and fun portfolio man!
I was going to ask the tech used here but I just read another comment where you answer that, I did not know about construct 3 engine, but it looks fantastic!

It's so well made and beautiful. Congratulations. Looks like a game intro. First console I played on was Super Nintendo 8 bit. Only saw Gameboys in magazines unfortunately. They weren't very popular in my country. Most likely because of cost. We had some crappy Tetris handhelds but man did we have fun with them anyway

I couldn't tell you how much reading this post and visiting your portfolio made my day, probably the rest of my week. I can't really put my finger on what is it about this that I love so much, but it is just delightful. I guess Gameboy has a strong nostalgic value for me, I even bought some Gameboys just to own one again.

I'm absolutely thrilled to hear that my post and portfolio had such a positive impact on your day!

I am an incurable nostalgic, I love retrogames, and it served as inspiration for me to create my website. If you ever want to chat more about it or have any questions, feel free to reach out.

The Konami code is not present, it's true, but there is another Easter egg that can be activated in some way...heheheh
