"Much more important is understanding the underlying principles",— Itamar Turner-Trauring.

Hello, amazing people!

On the 16th of April, we are running the online Data Love Conference.

Data Love is the conference for Data Engineers, Data Scientists, and everyone who wants to dive into the data-driven world. Register for FREE!

Topics: Data Science, Data Governance, Data Infrastructure, Data Quality, Data Modelling, and Data Visualization.

Data Lovely Speakers include Founders, Software and Data Engineers, Developer Advocates, and Architects.

Let’s jump on a wonderful ride of the Data Love world and explore what our speakers have to say.

Our next fabulous speaker is Itamar Turner-Trauring, Trainer at PythonSpeed.

Itamar teaches software developers and data scientists the technical skills they need to be more productive so that they can focus on the more meaningful part of their work. He's worked on everything from an airline reservation system to image processing for a gene sequencing device. He also worked on distributed systems for many years, which is why he thinks using just one computer should be the default starting point for most systems.

How did you become interested in Data?

Got interested in scientific computing, and ended up working on an image processing pipeline for gene sequencing. And that involved a lot of data!

What are you working on right now? What drew you to your company?

I do training, consulting, and create my own products. I enjoy people able to help people at scale, for example by teaching and being able to choose what I work on.

What is your favorite project or a project that you’re particularly proud of?

I created Fil, an open-source memory profiler for Python specifically for data science and scientific computing. It lets users see information that is quite difficult to discover otherwise, and it's also a fun technical challenge.

The industry demand for Data Engineers is constantly on the rise and with it more and more software engineers and recent graduates try to enter the field. Data Engineering is a discipline notorious for being framework-driven and it is often hard for newcomers to find the right ones to learn. What technology are you most excited about? Share top 3 data engineering frameworks to learn, please.

I actually think focusing purely on frameworks is a mistake; much more important is understanding the underlying principles, and then you can understand why the frameworks do what they do. This is part of the goal of my conference talk, to show underlying patterns that drive many engineering decisions.

We thank Itamar for the thoughtful answers!

At the conference, he is going to speak on the topic: Small Big Data: using NumPy and Pandas when your data doesn't fit in memory.

If you want to attend Itamar's talk and to discuss some questions “in person” you can join us on the 16th of April!

The lineup of speakers is incredible. Topics are diverse. Suitable for any level. Interesting Q&A sessions in Spatial Chat.

Professional events open new opportunities, always. Many people find career opportunities while at an event. A new platform is made available to make this process seamless.
