My First Hacktoberfest

Intro

My first Hacktoberfest is in the books! Shout out to all of the maintainers, contributors, and volunteers who helped make this event such a great experience. If you'd like to say hello and see what I've been working on, please visit My GitHub and say hello.

Highs and Lows

It has been incredibly gratifying to contribute to some of my favorite organization. To have the opportunity to contribute multiple times to FreeCodeCamp, an organization which helped me get my start in tech, and still provides so many indispensable resources, is an honor and privilege.

It came down to the wire in terms of finding 4 unclaimed issues to claim. No matter how many repositories I visited, all of the open challenges seemed to have been claimed, and so I had to scramble a bit to complete the challenge. If I were to do this experience over again, I would get an earlier start, so as not to raise my blood pressure considerably.

Growth

Although this Hacktoberfest was not my first introduction to open source, racing against the clock and interacting with project maintainers added helped solidify my contribution workflow, and learn to deal with issues such as merge conflicts, pulling from a repo and merging before committing, and the like. I hope to continue on my open source journey going forward, approaching increasingly complex issues with less fear and doubt, and more excitement about the learning opportunities abound.
