No social media in the mornings - Wrap up

Welcome to the wrap up on the adventure of no social media checking in the morning.

Before I begin, thank you very much for reading. I know how precious your time is and I appreciate you for making this part of your life.

If you have no idea what I'm talking about, I took on a challenge for 7-days straight on not checking social media in the morning.

Here's each day:
🔹Day 1
🔹Day 2
🔹Day 3
🔹Day 4
🔹Day 5
🔹Day 6
🔹Day 7

In this article, we'll go over

  • Quick Update
  • Does this really work?
  • What's next? (in detail)
  • What's the next challenge?

Quick Update

You'll be glad to know that I've continued the journey: no more social media in the morning for this guy.

It has been a little over a month (as of this article) that I took the first step and I haven't looked back!😄

At this point, it has become a habit. What this means is that I don't need to "fight myself" each morning as my routine has changed.

Does this really work?🤔

Yes. Next question!

Seriously, it works better than I expected it. As I've already written, these are some of the benefits that have been amplified:

  • present (focus)
  • aware
  • ready to start my day
  • positive
  • smiles

Less...

  • stressed
  • worried/anxious
  • rushed
  • distracted

It doesn't mean there are no bad days. No, it means there's more ways to handle those bad days and/or situations. To be honest, I don't know why I didn't start this sooner.

What's next?

My next challenge/adventure is: going to sleep at 10pm.

But let's make this really interesting...

...I've found an old habit (more like addiction) creeping back into my life: playing World of Warcraft (WoW). 😰

I briefly mentioned this in my Developer On Fire interview:

Playing WoW has been my ball-and-chain (again) for four months now.

Initially, I had a lot of fun. I wasn't obsessed or playing too long. But old habits die hard. 😞

Let's just say I went back to my good ol' self from 2004-2007. Yeah, I screwed myself pretty bad. I won't get into too much detail.

If you want to know/read more about it, let me know in the comments below and I can share it!

What's the next challenge?

🔥Update: Read next challenge kick off for more details.🔥

  1. Going to bed early 10pm.

Nothing I do after 10pm is positive anymore. So, I've decided for this to be my cut-off time and be in bed by then.

I don't have the strength or stamina of my 20s. A good night sleep is pretty much required for me. (Hey! I'm not that old, I'm only in my mid-30s 😋).

  2. Stop playing WoW (World of Warcraft)

It's not really that bad. I mean, it will suck for the next few days due to withdrawal, but that's about it.

I've had my sparing sessions with WoW multiple times throughout the years, and it gets easier each time. (My mentor advised me never to fire up the game ever again... 😶)

Conclusion

I'm excited to see what comes out of these two new challenges in addition to the already established no social media in the morning habit.

What will your journey say?

Thank you for reading. Till very soon!
