Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) is the standard markup language for documents designed to be displayed in a web browser. It can be assisted by technologies such as Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) and scripting languages such as JavaScript.
HTML can embed programs written in a scripting language, such as JavaScript, that affect the behavior and content of web pages. CSS inclusion defines the look and feel of the content. The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), formerly responsible for HTML and now responsible for CSS standards, has promoted the use of CSS over explicit HTML since 1997.

Web browsers receive HTML documents from a web server or local storage and convert documents to multimedia web pages. HTML describes the structure of a semantic web page and initially included clues to the appearance of the document.
HTML elements are the basic elements of HTML pages. With HTML constructions, images and other objects, such as interactive forms, can be embedded in the rendered page. HTML provides a means of creating structured documents by naming the structural semantics of text, such as titles, paragraphs, lists, links, quotes, and other elements.
