Microsoft and Google are about to face off in a fight for the future search. These announcements set the tech giants, who are known for their past skirmishes, on a collision course, as they try to create the next generation in search.
Both companies want to create a new type of search engine: one that displays short, simple answers from AI rather than a bunch of boxes and links. Google teased yesterday its Bard chatbot with queries that look similar to OpenAI ChatGPT. Microsoft will add a ChatGPT-like interface to its Bing search engine, which is expected to answer questions in a way that no other search engine has.
These more human-like answers could revolutionize search. ChatGPT was developed by AI company OpenAI and brought conversational AI into mainstream. If the Bing integration works properly, it can save hours of research, spreadsheets and coding.
