Introduction
Hello, My name is Felix Dadebo. I am currently a Junior at Penn State University, majoring in Human-Centered Design and Development. HCDD is a field that focuses on designing and developing applications for people. It is essentially creating designs that meet and help human needs. I am also a member of UXPA club at Penn State, where I work with other group members to create user experience for various firms. I have always been interested in creative works, new technology and also people, and I believe this major embodies all these things. I really enjoy meeting and observing people and how they interact with others and their environment. This made Human Centered Design and Development (HCDD) an easy choice to make after my first year as an undecided college student. The major provides a wide range of opportunities for students across multiple industries such as business, healthcare, tech etc. I saw this major as an opportunity to not confine myself to just one industry in my career, but also explore others. Having the capabilities to move between industries allows me to reinvent myself, learn more about different fields, broaden my experiences and also interact with people from various backgrounds. One fear I had about choosing a major was going into a career that will eventually disinterest me after years. However, with HCDD, industries require people to design systems that help attract more people, which in turn will make every project interesting for a long time.
Today, technology is used almost everywhere around the world. There is now a growing demand from companies to move their business model online. Nonetheless, it is one thing to have an application designed for a business, than it is to design an application for users. Evidently, the COVID-19 pandemic forced business to shut down, which led to an economic crisis and imposed a constraint on businesses. Forcing businesses to halt all their business operations. Small businesses in cities such as New York had to find other means of operations. This meant they needed to create an online platform in order to continue generating revenue. The pandemic also caused a huge shift from the traditional norm of going to work in-person to making it remotely for people. Each company has a different vision of how their social platform should look and function. However, as Human Centered Designers we have to consider how the design works efficiently for people before anything else. This is the most admirable thing about the major, the fact that It lays emphasis on user satisfaction.
FlexDesign?
On FlexDesign we will discuss and learn about old and new technologies in the Tech design world. This channel will help inform people about how different tools can be used to create and design applications. My goal is to help people learn more about the technology we use everyday and also inform them about how they are designed. One design tool I prefer for prototyping, wireframes, and group collaboration on design is Figma. When it comes to wireframing, I consider Figma as the ideal choice over other tools, such as Scene Builder and Adobe xd because of how easy it is to use. In this video, I will go over, basic components of Figma that make it ideal for wireframing.
