What a switch from your last career! What made you decide to change? I'm 35 and feeling nervous about starting over in a new career (but also excited).
This sounds very interesting Matthew. I like Ryan Reynolds. He's a big human person and a great actor at the same time. Personally my favorite actor it's Keanu Reeves.

He was as nice as he seems, Tommie (@made_of_stars ), and more: collaborative, courteous, and eager to make that silly commercial the best it could be. He warmly introduced himself and immediately started talking with me about a change he wanted to make to the script. "I don't think I should say this line. It's putting a hat on a hat. What do you think?" I thought he was absolutely right; the line commented on the situation rather than letting it be as funny as it was. He then politely wrangled with the writers & director & everybody in charge and got them to cut it.
Oftentimes stars make themselves the only important person in the room, but he invited me to play and suggest ideas. After several takes, I told him -- though it wasn't scripted -- I thought it'd be funny if I knocked the burrito off the counter and he said, "I love it. Absolutely." When we first did it, the 2nd AD got mad at me for it, but Ryan defended the idea and insisted we keep doing it because it was funnier.
My best example is this: we were shooting in a trailer on a hot day, and air conditioning had to be off while we were shooting because of the sound. You might not notice, but I'm in a wool turtleneck and thick trousers and boots, and I was sweltering. Because I'm behind him, Ryan couldn't have seen how uncomfortable and sweaty I was, but when the 2nd AD (who was in shorts and a tank top) griped about how hot it was, Ryan immediately said, "You know who's probably really feeling the heat? Matthew in his turtleneck. Are you ok back there, Matthew? Would you like someone to bring you some water or a towel or something?"
So yeah, based on my experience, he's an extraordinarily kind, thoughtful person and a delightful actor to work with. And thanks very much for the complement!

I'm Muzamil Iqrar, currently a Project Manager with 1 years of experience at a startup, primarily focused on Shopify e-commerce development. I haven't been a fan of programming, but recently, I've developed a growing interest in coding, particularly in learning the MERN stack, and possibly exploring AI in the future.
My journey began during my undergraduate studies, where I initially focused on 3D modeling. However, my interests shifted, and I transitioned into UI/UX design. After joining my current company as a UI/UX designer, I spent 6 months working in UI design. Due to my strong communication skills and the dynamic nature of a smaller company, I was quickly entrusted with the role of Project Manager. Despite having limited knowledge of Shopify at the time, the company provided me with opportunities to learn and grow. Within a few months, I gained substantial practical experience in Shopify development, handling significant projects.
This experience sparked my newfound passion for coding. For the past 4 months, I’ve been diligently learning the fundamentals, starting from HTML, and then progressing through CSS, Bootstrap, and Tailwind. Currently, I’m focusing on JavaScript with plans to master front-end technologies like React before transitioning into backend development.
I understand that this is a long journey, but with perseverance and dedication, I’m confident I’ll achieve my goals. I’m also actively engaging in communities to surround myself with like-minded professionals and continue my learning and growth.
Looking forward to connecting with and learning from all of you!
Hey! My name is Alex. At work, I'm doing some Ruby and Ruby on Rails stuff. In my spare time, I enjoy doing some random programming for fun and also playing the piano (the piano I've been doing since I was 6!)
Recently, I started exploring the Nix package manager. Check out my first post about Nix for beginners: Nix First Steps
Cool, I did a testrun of nix a while back, because I like the concept, but I couldn't go through with it because it was just too damn strict for me. But the idea is so excellent. I kept on truckin with Ubuntu and Manjaro (really like Manjaro actually).
It definitely has a learning curve, and in my opinion, it's more than enough to only use the Nix package manager (including flakes) on whatever system you're using. It's totally fine to give up trying to switch to NixOS completely, though the philosophy behind it is great indeed
I am Sunil, a UI enthusiast having 14+ years of experience in React, NextJs, Angular, Node, MEAN, MERN. I started writing journey and thought to share with everyone interested. Would appreciate feedbacks/suggestions.

Hello! My name is jiggyflyjoe or just Joe or jiggy for short! I'm a 39-year-old Indianapolis area native who relocated to a pretty small town in Kansas about a year and a half ago to be closer to family. I love media, entertainment, and creative arts of just about all forms as well as technology (of course)! I've done some light dabbling in HTML and CSS on the front-end since I was a teen running his first LiveJournal and MySpace accounts (did I just date myself?) and I've learned some Python and other software development concepts in school but never did graduate. Now that I am also jobless, I've been trying to reignite my interest in learning programming and development through free resources such as The Odin Project, FreeCodeCamp, and Khan Academy! I have also been trying to join all the essential communities like this one here and Stack Overflow. 😊 It is wonderful to meet everyone and hope to learn more and grow with you soon!

I'm new to all this, but I've got an idea. That idea is niche, involves AI, and will be built to help neurodivergent individuals be able to navigate suicidal situations. But I have a plan to integrate it into every field where people interact. Making every interaction more productive; and even the possibilities of being used as an oversight for officials, and governments.

Hello DEV, my name is Lucas Ricci a full-stack web dev with over 8 years of experience in the field.
I LOVE optimizing code and working with native tools to make my own libraries, modules and frameworks for later use. Since I have more time, only recently I decided to improve and share these tools over on my github, so stay tuned!
I found DEV today. I visited a post by @gypsydave5 about "Why You Shouldn't Use A Web Framework" (who's opinion I share, btw), and wandered around a bit more and immediately loved the idea of what seems to be a social media app for developers and such. I am not much of a twitter or instagram user really, but this I dig!
Edit. Another thing to know about me: I always feel like a beginner, and like the sensation of knowing there's always a bit more to learn and improve!
Hello DEV! Jeremy here. I'm a web developer in-training, with a few weeks of my full-stack bootcamp left to go. I've been learning Javascript, React, HTML, CSS, and have just recently dove into the back-end with Python, SQL and Django.
I've learned A TON in the last few months, and I'm starting to grasp how much more there is (and will always be) to learn. Pretty much trying to get my bearings in this new line of work right now. I'm hoping to make connections, learn, and tap into the resources that will help keep me fresh and ready to work.
I'm an Android engineer exploring AI, with two products: AI Directory (https://toolsapp.cc/) for various AI tools, and Java Q&A Hub (https://javaqahub.cc/) providing free Java programming answers
I am an Android engineer, currently exploring the field of AI and preparing to make my own products.
Currently, there are two products. One is the AI navigation station toolsapp.cc/, which mainly collects various products in the fields of AI, writing, marketing, SEO, learning, art, music, video, coding, etc., to help users easily find tools that meet their needs. Whether it is a content creator, marketer or designer, you can find AI tools that suit you here to improve your work efficiency and creativity.
Another product is javaqahub.cc/, Java Q&A Hub: Free ChatGPT Client is an online platform designed for Java enthusiasts, aiming to provide users with free answers to Java programming-related questions. The platform allows users to ask any Java question to the GPT-4o-mini model and get accurate and detailed answers, which is suitable for a wide range of user groups from beginners to advanced developers.
At present, these two products are actually written with the nextjs technology stack, the code is deployed on cloudflare, and the supabase database is used. I hope to make more valuable products. If it is useful to everyone, I will feel particularly happy.

Hi, my name is Federico and I am the co-founder of an application development platform called Tenum. Our team has been working on this project for over 5 years and we have just released our first beta.
I joined DEV because I hope to find like-minded webdevs who like to try new things and are ready for a good conversation.
I've always wanted to develop my own small indie game and I've dabbled in the past with many of the smaller game engines like Gamemaker and Scratch, but never found my footing. I'm still a super newb but I've recently started to understand coding a little more through some fantastic tutorials. Currently focusing on Godot and GDScript as it has a lower barrier to entry.
I've also dabbled in graphics (both 2D and 3D) as well as some minor sounds creation. I'd love to expand on at and sounds but learning GDScript is paramount to moving forward
I think Godot and GDScript is certainly an excellent way forward. I have dabbled in it myself, but for me as a programmer, I have found that my joy in gamedev is strictly the programming / problem solving part and the editor experience provided by Godot didn't, at the time, give enough to counter the fact that I missed the low-level experience of coding.
Hello 👋
I am a beginner in software development, and I have completed a project for Task management application that can be used in an organization. However, I am concerned about the security of my web application, which is currently not very strong. I primarily use PHP, Bootstrap, and jQuery in my project.
I would appreciate any assistance or recommendations for improving the security functionality of my application.

Hi. My name is Bogdan, I'm a Full Stack Developer and I love learning about NextJS Firebase / Supabase.
In my career I was: Web Designer (photoshop), FrontEnd Developer, WordPress Developer, React Developer (+NextJS and Gatsby), then switching to some sort of FullStack, adopting mostly NextJS + Serverless Functions for API's etc. One of my core value is Love Learning, so this is why in my ~20 years of career I've reinvented my self any time I had to.
Right now I'm working on my site Ai Mania. I've just made the transition from Firebase to Supabase. And Supabase is just AMAZING :D
Nice to meet you all! I'll share as much as I can from my knowledge with you! And I'll also learn from you! 🤗

I used to work in a 3D printing startup in the dental sector as a sales manager, and my background is in industrial engineering. I have a solid background in strategy and sales. I’m currently looking forward to changing careers into IT. I think it’s super interesting how you can solve problems and create solutions with technology. I'm excited to connect with others and learn more about this new world for me.

Hey DEV. I'm Matthew, a Software Engineer with 2-3 years of professional experience post-bootcamp, mostly Ruby on Rails & JS.
Fun fact: I used to be a professional actor (lots of theater, Broadway, some TV, etc.). Here's a funny commercial I did with Ryan Reynolds.
Hello my name is Hussain, a hardware Engineer, also I want know the basic of software Engineering
Welcome 👋
Thank you
Oh cool! Will check it out
WOW nice commercial 😁
Welcome!
Ola
great
I am so curious about this 180 degree career change. R U enjoying??
BTW. Welcome!!!
That's probably the best mobile game ad I've ever seen! Excited to hear more about your career switch, especially how things developed post bootcamp.
What a switch from your last career! What made you decide to change? I'm 35 and feeling nervous about starting over in a new career (but also excited).
Can you teach me more about it
This sounds very interesting Matthew. I like Ryan Reynolds. He's a big human person and a great actor at the same time. Personally my favorite actor it's Keanu Reeves.
I cannot overstate how hilarious that commercial was. That's so cool. Is he as charming and nice in real life as in... real life?
You played your part well. ;-)

Hello DEV!
Since I'm no good in presentations I will be shamelessly stealing @matthew_greers formula.
I'm Simon! Ive been coding for about 7 years, professionally for about 5. I started my journey with App Development schooling, learned some Java and now I'm back with iOS development for the automotive industry.
Fun fact: I once accidentally shaved off one of my eyebrows in an attempt to look neater in preparation for a date I was going to. I also updated my driving licence photo at that time, which was a nice way of reminding me of my embarrassment. (Date went exceptionally well though)
Nice
Hi! Nice story lol

Hey Everyone,
My name is Cullen. I am a Business Systems Analyst who is currently between roles. I am planning to use this time off work to improve my technical knowledge and hopefully teach myself some new skills/languages.
I am super interested in javascript and python and hope to begin there. I am looking at a Coursera course for python but it is a little overwhelming trying to find the best place to start! Would love any suggestions/guidance anyone can provide.
I have lots of experience with databases and automation through my career. I am passionate about PKM and discovering and sharing productivity tools, tips, etc. with the adhd & neurodivergent community.
My latest and greatest PKM tool is Tana. I am currently enrolled in a 4 week course on how to create Advanced Knowledge Systems in Tana. I personally believe that Tana might be a game-changer given some more time and support!
Anyways, it's great to meet everyone. Sorry this was kind of brief and scattered. Would love to chat more with anyone who is interested!
Thanks,
Cullen
Hi everyone,
I'm Muzamil Iqrar, currently a Project Manager with 1 years of experience at a startup, primarily focused on Shopify e-commerce development.
Sounds like an interesting journey. Look forward to your posts and your progress
I am always up for a new linux distro... :D
It definitely has a learning curve, and in my opinion, it's more than enough to only use the Nix package manager (including flakes) on whatever system you're using. It's totally fine to give up trying to switch to NixOS completely, though the philosophy behind it is great indeed
Nice article! What are you using Nix for right now?

Hey, I'm Laye Lyn (aka Lion), a BS software engineering student currently doing an internship in a private company. I'm looking for more opportunities as a software engineer. I also have experience of developing websites for movies and Tv shows. Recently I made Freecine App for movie streaming.

Hi everybody, Mustapha, backend developer, 15 (trillion) years of experience. PHP, Nodejs, SQL, Linux system admin, BASH, Data virtualization, lot of things right and left (c, c++, java, aws, azure, google cloud, anything that works ...).
My best time of life when i create new solution from scratch from simple idea to full production with just my machine and internet connection. I guess people here have experienced same thing.
Thank you for welcoming me
I like gamedev as a hobby, works part / fulltime as a "fullstack" rails developer, after 20 years of .NET web application experience. Favourite hobby language right now is Rust + Bevy for gamedev, because new and shiny is fun and bubbly.
Cheers.
I am a student of the odin project. I came to know there is a community of developers called dev.io so i signed up to get latest updates about dev world. I want to be a professional web developer so that i can fix real world problems for individuals.
Hey, humans
I'm new to all this, but I've got an idea. That idea is niche, involves AI, and will be built to help neurodivergent individuals be able to navigate suicidal situations. But I have a plan to integrate it into every field where people interact. Making every interaction more productive; and even the possibilities of being used as an oversight for officials, and governments.
Hi Dev and all the Community Members, Myself Gautam Govind, Java FullStack Developer and excited to join this beautiful journey with you guys where My joining reason is learning and challenging myself with the exciting opportunities provided by Dev Community. Excited to listen from you all !!!

Hi! I'm Pal, a CS uni student in the UK. I've recently gotten into Rust and open source and I'm trying to make more contributions into projects.

I'm Ateeq From UAE and i have 3 years of working as a website developer and designer. I would love to work in a multinational or international company as a website developer. I recently developed an app known as Cocobox which streams popular Tv shows and Movies.

Hi all, my name's Gautham. Have worked in numerous roles - graphic designer, ui designer, frontend developer, research assistant, digital media technician, web developer, tech lead, ux designer, project manager and currently a software product manager.
Huh... reading the sentence above, it looks like I am a jack of many trades.
Joined dev to keep up with updates in css, html and maybe a bit of js and php.
p.s. never been good at writing, but hopefully I will give it a try this time.
Hi everyone! I’m Dhruv, a second-year Computer Science student with a passion for cybersecurity. I’m currently diving into the Google Cybersecurity Certificate program and have just completed the Foundations of Cybersecurity course.
Check out my stuff on itch.io: lavaeater.itch.io/
Hello 👋
I am a beginner in software development, and I have completed a project for Task management application that can be used in an organization. I would appreciate any assistance or recommendations for improving the security functionality of my application.
Thank you!
