Yeah, how dare people get offended for a word that might remind them of the horrific history of their people huh?

Not only master/slave is a racist concept, it is also completely inaccurate in the tech world... So, if the harm it might do to some people is not enough for you, maybe proper naming will get through you... I heard programmers are quite big on properly naming their stuff...

Your inference to historical events has no bearing on the terms used here, it's on you as a reader of these texts to find the proper context and to understand why they're used.

Connotation of words matter master in this case has nothing to do with a person owning slaves. It has to do with the fact that the master branch is... the master. The branch that is the original copy that can be iterated on.

Saying that the master branch is the main one, or the original one is actually a lot more explicit to describe the purpose of that branch.

Since you don't care about the harm and the message it can do, I guess properly naming the concept we are using might be better... It's easier to understand, and easier to teach.

Properly naming is exactly why I will be using master.

You sound like a person who won't wear a mask during a pandemic... You are most likely lazy and don't care about anyone else. ;) Call it master if you want but don't act like you are standing up to technical oppression!! What's the big deal about calling it something else for new repos? I can see not renaming your whole code base...
