This is great... Like your conclusion, one of the things I learned that changed my life is learn to prioritize but also equally focus on increasing the feeling of accomplishment. So I pick the 1 - 3 things that has to be done that day to make me feel it was a productive day, do those and the rest is a plus.

With this method, a markdown notebook and Google calendar is all that's necessary, less tools to get in the way of 'getting'r done'

Definitely, one must be careful with the tooling because it can very easily become a different way of procrastinating (or just add too much overhead as you say).
