I summarized the income from GitHub Sponsors in 2023.
For the results of last year (2022), see the following article.
GitHub Sponsors is a system that mainly supports open source activities financially.
GitHub Sponsors supports individuals and organizations, but here I summarize GitHub Sponsors for individuals.
My GitHub Sponsors is published on the following page.
The reason for publishing this article is to get people who are doing open source activities and people who support open source activities interested in financial support systems such as GitHub Sponsors.
Personally, I think it is important that people who use open source can choose to pay for it.
If you are interested in supporting open source, please consider using GitHub Sponsors.
Types of open source activities
My open source activities are mainly as follows.
- Software development: textlint, Secretlint, HonKit and other development and maintenance.
- Web service development: philan.net, Komesan, Irodr, etc.
- Blogs: Posting on JSer.info and ECMAScript Daily blogs
- Books: Writing for JavaScript Primer and JavaScript Promise book in Japanese
Basically, I do it as a hobby.

Conclusion
This article summarized the income from GitHub Sponsors in 2023.
I think it is important that there is a system that allows not only code contributions but also financial contributions.
Compared to last year, I feel that more people are using GitHub Sponsors.
For example, Sentry uses a service called thanks.dev to automatically distribute money to maintainers of libraries that depend on it.
I think that systems like GitHub Sponsors/Open Collective will continue to be discussed and new methods will be developed.
