4 things that shouldn't go in the alternative text in images

Accessibility is a standard developed by the W3C. It allows us to optimize our interfaces to ensure access to people who may experience some kind of impediment to access the content.

Alt text also known as "alt attributes" describe the appearance and function of an image on a page.

Today I share with you this that someone once told me. What shouldn't go in an alternative text in images

<img alt=" " >
Enter fullscreen mode Exit fullscreen mode

❌ Don't start alt texts with "Image of...", "Photo of..." or similar. This is added by default.
❌ The photographer's name.
❌ Don't put keywords.
❌ Irrelevant words to position yourself in google. This isn't how alt text works.

What other advice would you give? πŸ˜€

The required alt attribute specifies an alternate text for an image, if the image cannot be displayed.

The alt attribute provides alternative information for an image if a user for some reason cannot view it (because of slow connection, an error in the src attribute, or if the user uses a screen reader).

Of course, it is that in my post, I didn't explain what the meaning of the alt attribute is. Not in detail.

And I think what you said is important to know and understand even more, what it should be used for ☺️
