The Ultimate List of 2019 Advent Calendars for Designers and Developers

The end of the year is fast approaching. 'Tis the season to be jolly and generous and what better gift to give than knowledge? It's already an established tradition for the web design and development community to create and publish advent calendars. So I decided to put together a list of the most popular websites that participate in this event.

I'm going to update this collection over the next few days as this year's editions start getting online. The entries don't follow a specific order - I am just adding them in the order I've discovered them.

Do you have an advent calendar you follow that I haven't included? Please mention it in the comments area below and I will place it in the lineup.

Last update: December 8th

24 Ways

24 Ways 2019

24 Ways is one of the elder advent calendars in the community, being launched all the way back in 2005. I'm expecting another set of excellent articles for the 15th edition.

Advent of Code

Advent of Code 2019

The Advent of code brings you daily programming challenges that you can solve in any programming language you want.

The Grand Daddy of Advent Calendars, Perl Advent has been running since 2000.

Web Performance Calendar

Faster websites are always in demand and the Web Performance advent calendar has been bringing you great tips all since 2009.

24 Days in December

24 Days in December

This PHP-centric calendar is a fairly new one, having been published for the first time in 2015.

Java Security Advent Calendar

This year RIPS brings its security challenges for Java developers (last year was aimed at WordPress and two years ago at PHP).

24 Accessibility

24 Accessibility

24 Accessibility is another "young" advent calendar. It brings you articles on all subjects related to digital accessibility.

24 Days in Umbraco

24 Days in Umbraco

Users of Umbraco CMS are spoiled by having their own advent calendar. The Umbraco team rose to the challenge this year as well and they have a lot of things to share.

Lean UXmas

Lean UXmas

The Lean UXmas advent calendar shares the most popular articles related to Agile and Lean UX News that happened this year.

24 Jours de Web

24 Jours de Web

24 Jours de Web is a calendar aimed to the French-speaking community. Don't despair though... Through the wonders of Google Translate you can also enjoy the content.

Sys Advent

Sys Advent

Too often the sysadmins are overlooked and neglected, yet they keep the Web spinning. Sys Advent takes care of them, bringing over great articles about systems administration topics.

A Language a Day

A Language a Day

Formerly known as "Pearl 6 One-Liner", this advent calendar pivoted to highlight a new language every day. The list starts with Typescript, but there are 24 days to cover... I am looking forward to seeing what will happen here.

Bekk Christmas

Bekk Christmas

The people at Bekk are going above and beyond the call of duty this year, because they are publishing no less than TWELVE advent calendars. That's 12 articles a day for 24 days. That's about the same as the rest of this list combined. Amazing, isn't it?

Here is the list of the 12 calendars:

1) Cloud Computing
2) CSS
3) Functional Programming
4) Java
5) JavaScript
6) Kotlin
7) Machine Learning
8) Open Source
9) Product Development (in Norwegian)
10) React
11) Security
12) User Experience

It's a Shape Christmas

Shape Christmas

Shape Christmas is a project that comes with a new illustration each day. This year they are bringing over the best entries over the last 8 years.

The Third Annual C# Advent

This calendar is organized by our fellow DEV member, Matthew D. Groves. And it's done in a different way because the posts are not published in a single location. Instead, they are aggregated on a single page but hosted in many other places

Thanks! I will add it to the list, most likely tomorrow when I get back from work.
