There are some out there between hither and yon that will scare you so much, you won't want to go on.
Dr Sues
I quite like Dr Sues books, as a nightly bedtime story reader, 'Oh the places you'll go' includes a lot of walking.
So is a standing desk a fad? It's certainly not exercise, but could it help to have one at home? I have seen no research paper suggesting that (although sitting is bad) standing is the answer, you can youtube that if you like.
So if the best thing to do is to get out there and do some exercise, what would you recommend?

I've read standing can affect your mood alot; empirically power stances can make you feel more confident. For me, it helps with my anxiety a bit, and I think I'm happier at the end of the day if I haven't spent it all sitting down.
Its not binary. For me, my work patterns resemble the flavor of quarks:
up: standing with my Varidesk
down (sitting position of varidesk with Lisa Simpson Knee chair)
strange: using a "normal chair" rarely
charm: working while being charming on a call with someone
bottom: working in bed
top: working while out on my constitutional
I want to echo this. A standing desk without wearing proper shoes and a foot mat is a very bad idea. After a week of standing all day with just slippers on my foot began to ache on walks.
