DEV Community

Did you hit a wall at 10 years?

I have been doing this whole code thing for a good long time, but lately the whole prospect of developing libraries and other community efforts have taken a back seat, I guess I saw how robotic I had became.

I have interests now and hobbies and maybe one day, friends πŸ¦ΎπŸ˜‰πŸ˜…

I'm wanting to not become the enclopedia of web dev. Good is enough

Is that wrong? How do you feel, is this just motivation, or has COVID changed you too?

There would be so much to say to this, but I will try to keep it concise:
Over the years, I have learned how to accept different levels of "engagement interest". Don't get me wrong, I never hated what I am doing, but there are times - sometimes months - where I am happy to get up after work on Friday and don't look at a computer for the whole weekend. But eventually I find myself exploring a new idea, framework or approach until late at night and find myself having to manage work, open-source contributions and side-projects next to each other.
I guess what I am saying is: life is cyclical. If you find yourself more drawn to family and friends, seek outdoor adventures or go about hobbies, then you should follow that impulse. If webdev is your devotion, you will find back automatically when the time is right.

I actually wanted to become the encyclopedia of web dev, so I can work with a better way as a web developer since i am still lack of many things, and the other reason is I wanted to help other people to become a better developer too. But, if your hobbies for development had impact your life, you should take a rest and enjoy a peaceful life for a while on the outdoor or with some community, like neoan said, and of course, especially with your family since they are the most closest to you. Human are social beings, so we need other people to brighten up our life.

It's a very true sentiment!

I am always bouncing between a junior and a senior.

Lately I'm getting into model trains of course to add Arduino and some sort of web tech but there is a bit of electronics, history and even art. It's a good hobby to take a peek at
