How perseverance got me my first paid remote internship job in a renowned software company.

It was in the ninth month of 2020. I received a mail that I had been selected for the first stage of an interview process. It was news I wasn’t really hoping for as the submission deadline was the same day.

A 30secs video pitch was among the requirement for the first interview process. I was quite nervous but optimistic. Many thoughts ran through my mind as I did not know what would come out of it.

I began to make necessary preparations for the pitch as well as the online interview questions. The overall time required for the online questionnaire was forty minutes. All answers appeared rightly answered and I was fortunate to reach the next level. I was quite excited.

Now came the time for the video pitch. It was my first formal video pitch. I knew self composure and confidence were key in making the presentation, coupled with harnessing one’s communication skill. I put God first and began.
The focus of the pitch was to answer two logical questions. I rehearsed as much as possible before I made up my mind on the final clip. Now it was the time to click the submit button but, for no apparent reason, the page kept bouncing me back to the initial page of the interview.

I tried many times to figure out the problem. I checked my internet connection, it was strong.I checked if perhaps any segment was missed, but all was intact. Each time it took me back to the initial stage, I had to start afresh. I did this continuously for more than five times, which literally means 40mins multiplied by 5 or more till it got dark.
I was really determined to get the best result.

I was ready to maximize the full six months SIWES program in getting quality knowledge and I knew lots of experience and exposure could be acquired from a tech company like Bincom Dev Center. My passion and love for tech kept pushing me, coupled with the strong desire to succeed, mixed with faith.

I couldn’t make the submission that night. I was gradually losing hope about the process but still somehow trusted the process. That day was meant to be the deadline for submission.

Fast forward, it was the following day in the morning. I couldn’t sleep so tight. I was feeling disturbed but still optimistic. I summoned the strength to make another attempt. I made it up to the last stage and was able to make the final submission. I knew my submission was late but faith kept me on.

The following week, an email message popped up on my mobile phone: ‘’Congratulations! You have been shortlisted for the first stage of the preliminary test…’’
I was agitated and immediately did what was requested before the end of that day. It all continued just like that up till the final stage of the interview, an online interview was conducted throughout the process and on the long run, I was eventually selected to commence work in the company.

I thought of all hurdles being met along the way and how I was able to persevere. Even the challenges faced from onset while applying for the position on Linkedin could not be left untold. I had a very low battery during the application, doubting if the battery level would complete the application process. On clicking the last submission button, my battery level was 1%. I was lucky enough that the phone went off immediately after submission. It wasn’t an easy task because during the one month internal training, there were times my subscription got exhausted and would be left with nothing. I had borrowed cash from people during this training just to get along.

All praise to Allah, I can boldly say that my Digital Marketing knowledge and ability is beyond just a beginner as I started, but now in the Intermediate level. I can confidently use some SEO tools for site optimization, develop captivating marketing content for a brand, and make quality marketing videos, amongst others.

Lastly I would forever appreciate Bincom Dev Center for having given me the opportunity to facilitate 3 different cohorts on Fundamentals of Digital Marketing during my programme by teaching what I know.

A final note: Never give up on what good you desire for, keep pushing, have faith and your success is right before you.
Thanks for reading.
