As the applications are still open for the Google Developer Student Lead position across the globe, I want to encourage those (especially the women and underrepresented individuals who may not feel they have all the qualifications) to apply. As the GDSC lead this year at my university, I have felt challenged to go beyond my comfort zone and I strongly believe that with the passion to learn, the success will follow. So do not fear!
The application process is quite straight forward, you start by submitting a form where you answer some preliminary questios regarding your standing (year etc.,) and university, and then you submit a short video and essay. After, you go through 1 or 2 rounds of interviews where you can discuss your experiences and why you want to be lead. I think this is critical, for me I have always strongly held my past experiences as a motivator — whether it was being excluded in school for things I could not control, or struggling to feel welcomed / included in certain environments. Leverage your experiences, and do not be afraid to speak your truth — being authentic is important because it enables the interviewer to see your passion for the position.
Wishing everyone good luck and feel free to leave any comments if you had any questions! I value mentorship and giving back and this program has giving me an amazing platform and experiences.
