Now, why are we doing all this?
You've probably heard the phrase "trees are the lungs of our planet" countless times. For our health and environment, it is indeed crucial to take action towards rehabilitation of one of the most important resources of our planet - forests.
After all, trees provide us with life’s essentials, clean air and oxygen, clean water, better soil.
According to National Geographic, deforestation represents a human-driven and natural loss of trees that affects wildlife, ecosystems, weather patterns, and climate. Forests still cover about 30% of the world’s land area, but they are disappearing at an alarming rate. Since 1990, the world has lost 420 million hectares or about a billion acres of forest.
This has had a catastrophic impact on climate change. Trees clean the air around us, the one we breathe, filter the water we drink, and provide habitat to over 80% of the world's terrestrial biodiversity. Forests provide jobs to over 1.6 billion people, absorb harmful carbon from the atmosphere, and are key ingredients in 25% of all medicines.
One of the best and most accessible tools we have today to tackle the climate crisis and keep our temperatures from rising above 1.5C is to plant trees.
Ecologi - our partners, know how important it is for our present and future, to take prevention steps now. This is why they formed this initiative group where they use donations to support a broad range of projects that are able to evidence that they are reducing greenhouse gas emissions through tree planting.
