Whether pedicled vascularized bone grafts (PVBGs) are beneficial over non-vascularized bone grafts (NVBGs) still remains controversial. The aim of this study was to compare the clinical results of PVBGs and NVBGs for the treatment of scaphoid non-union.

We conducted a meta-analysis of the published studies comparing outcomes of these two different surgical techniques for scaphoid non-union. Outcomes of union rate, time to union, functional results and re-operation rate were analysed.

Seven studies including four randomized controlled studies and three retrospective comparative studies with 413 participants were identified fitting inclusion criteria. Meta-analysis showed that (i) union rate in PVBG groups was 1.13 times of NVBG groups (P = 0.002); (ii) the PVBG groups reached bone union significantly earlier by 1.73 weeks (P < 0.01); (iii) there was no significant difference in functional results, including active range of motion, grip strength, Mayo Wrist Score and excellent and good rate (P > 0.05); and (iv) re-operation rate was similar between the two groups (P = 0.65).

Although the PVBG technique attains higher union rate and earlier union, this radiological advantage does not bring any functional benefits. Herein, we describe the rapid and high-yield syntheses of unsymmetrical acyclic [11 C]ureas under mild conditions (room temperature and within 7 min) using no-carrier-added [11 C]carbonyl difluoride with aliphatic and aryl amines. This methodology is compatible with diverse functionality (e. g., hydroxy, carboxyl, amino, amido, or pyridyl) in the substrate amines. The labelling process proceeds through putative [11 C]carbamoyl fluorides and for primary amines through isolable [11 C]isocyanate intermediates. Unsymmetrical [11 C]ureas are produced with negligible amounts of unwanted symmetrical [11 C]urea byproducts. Moreover, the overall labelling method tolerates trace water and the generally moderate to excellent yields show good reproducibility. [11 C]Carbonyl difluoride shows exceptional promise for application to the synthesis of acyclic [11 C]ureas as new radiotracers for biomedical imaging with PET.We investigated the effect of deglucuronidation on the plasma concentration of the constituents of the Basel phenotyping cocktail and on the interpretation of the phenotyping results under basal conditions and after cytochrome P450 (CYP) induction with metamizole. The cocktail containing caffeine (CYP1A2), efavirenz (CYP2B6), flurbiprofen (CYP2C9), omeprazole (CYP2C19), metoprolol (CYP2D6) and midazolam (CYP3A4) was administered to 12 healthy subjects before (basal) and after treatment with metamizole for 1 week. In the basal state, deglucuronidation caused an increase in the plasma concentrations and area under the curve (AUC) of metoprolol, 8'-hydroxyefavirenz, 4'-hydroxyflurbiprofen and 1'-hydroxymidazolam. This effect could be visualized in Bland-Altman plots, where the values for 8'-hydroxyefavirenz, 4'-hydroxyflurbiprofen and 1'-hydroxymidazolam were mostly above the +20% threshold. As a result, the metabolic ratio (MR), calculated as AUCparent drug /AUCmetabolite , decreased with deglucuronidation for CYP2B6, CYP2C9 and CYP3A4 and increased for CYP2D6. Treatment with metamizole, a constitutive androstane receptor-dependent inducer of CYP2B6, CYP2C9, CYP2C19 and CYP3A4, accentuated the effect of deglucuronidation on AUC and MR. The correlation of MRs calculated as the plasma concentration ratio parent drug/metabolite with the MR calculated as the AUC ratio showed that 1 sample obtained between 2 and 6 hours after cocktail ingestion and analysed with and without deglucuronidation is sufficient to obtain reliable phenotyping results. Importantly, CYP2C9 and 3A4 induction would have been missed without deglucuronidation of the plasma samples. In conclusion, deglucuronidation of the plasma samples improves the stability of the phenotyping results of the Basel phenotyping cocktail and is necessary to reliably detect CYP induction.The extraordinary characteristic features of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) make them applicable for use in a variety of fields but their conductivity in microelectronics over a wide relative humidity (RH) range has not been extensively explored. To achieve good performance, MOFs must be stable in water, i.e., under humid conditions. However, the design of ultrastable hydrophobic MOFs with high conductivity for use in microelectronics as conducting and dielectric materials remains a challenge. In this Review, we discuss applications of an emerging class of hydrophobic MOFs with respect to their use as active sensor coatings, tunable low-κ dielectrics and conductivity, which provide high-level roadmap for stimulating the next steps toward the development and implementation of hydrophobic MOFs for use in microelectronic devices.
