The Most Annoying Cookie Banner Ever Hackathon 🀬πŸͺ

I love cookies, but I hate cookie banners

Image description

We've all had enough of those annoying cookie consent banners that get in our way everyday on the internet. So in the spirit of Halloween and Hacktoberfest, I'm proud to present to you 🀬 THE MOST ANNOYING COOKIE BANNER EVER HACKATHON πŸͺ.

In this contest, you'll connect with that evil developer inside of you and get revenge for all those annoying cookie banners you've had to deal with.

HOW, you ask?!

By creating the most annoying cookie banner you can think of.

WHY, you ask!?

Well, to have fun... and torture users a bit in the process 😈

But what might the most annoying cookie banners look like? Well, I'm glad you asked, because I prepared a nice little video. Have a quick watch.

Hackathon Guidelines

In this hackathon, your mission is simple: make the most annoying cookie consent banner or pop-up you can think of. This isn't a serious hackathon, just a chance to get creative and have fun!

Two winners will receive a sweet mechanical keyboard, chosen by the Open SaaS team and community.

Participation is simple. Just follow these rules:

Hackathon Deadline

Submit your PR before the 21st of October to be eligible to win.

Make sure to follow us on Twitter/X, or join our Discord to see if you've won.

And as the video said, if you’d like to find out more info about the annoying cookie consent banners and the hackathon, go here:

I remember my former coworkers did a similar project called something like "login forms from hell" at one of our annual hackathons (which were rather field trips with campfire and very relaxed coding sessions). My group won one of the hackathons with an Arduino light strip + humidity sensor attached to a log and some more flotsam and jetsam from the nearby forest.

Cookie banners are a great topic to mock, I wish there were none! Cookie banners are reducing the privacy goal behind GDPR to absurdity.

I'd gladly join the satiric cookie banner hackathon if I had more time to spare.

Good luck and have fun!

Love the idea of the Hackathon, but hate the idea that someone else would pick the mechanical keyboard!

Sadly, DasKeyboard no longer produce the one I like..
They went all flashy after version 3..
