I personally am a huge proponent of pushing browsers towards the same specifications. JS is the de facto browser scripting language. It isn't broken (though lots of devs don't like it...) and it's only getting better. I personally love JS for basic web stuff, front-end libraries, AND Node as well. Javascript is only growing and becoming more robust. So why does it "need" competition?
