My Dive into Opensource

Alt Text

Why Opensource?

For a long time, I have been fascinated by the communities of programmers all around the world. Being one myself, I realized, I had never been involved in any such community or activity. Being at home this whole time led me into spending more time researching about events and activities, hence, here I am, successfully completing the biggest event in opensource for this year.

Background

Having completed my contributions long back, I can say that the experience was highly rewarding and the experience that I gained is priceless.

Contributions

I mainly contributed to the relatively beginner-worthy projects as I was unsure of my abilities which soon faded away. The basic topics or technologies I looked for in the repositories and projects were:

  1. Cloud: It was the very first technology that I learned outside my course curriculum and I have very high confidence in my problem-solving abilities on issues related to cloud and cloud-computing
  2. Flutter: This is the technology I am most into since the beginning of my third year as I was always fascinated by mobile technology (android and IOS)
  3. Python: I was learning python at the time of the Fest and couldn't wait to apply my learnings to real-world situations, hence this choice

Reflections

Being a beginner in this part of the Tech world, I had a freeing experience with the whole Hacktoberfest and Opensource ambience. It was like I was finally free of the shackles binding me to my local IDE and the same problem solving with coding, mindlessly building codes without any proper direction towards building real-life products out of them. The whole experience with Hacktoberfest 2020 changed my whole perspective about coding and building technology-related products for solving real-time issues. I am sure that the knowledge I gained from this experience is going to prove priceless in the long run, when I work in the industry for building products that are better and reflect the experience I gained from scouring through hundreds of the repositories in search of one to contribute to pertaining to clean and efficient solutions to seemingly thought-provoking problems.
