Intro
What is re:Invent?
Packed with keynote announcements, training opportunities, and more than 2,500 technical sessions, re:Invent is a chance for the global cloud computing community to find out the latest news from AWS HQ, brush up on their skills, and take valuable insight back to their teams and businesses.
Why is re:Invent so important?
AWS re:Invent 2020 is the Amazon Web Services annual user conference that focuses on:
- Cloud strategies
- Cloud operations
- Security and developer productivity
- IT architecture and infrastructure
What is different about re:Invent this year?
Like everything in 2020, this yearβs AWS re:Invent will be different. But unlike everything else about this year, there could be a massive upside because AWS re:Invent 2020 is free and entirely virtual.
What is an AWS Community Builder?
Community Builders are individuals who are passionate about using AWS and share what they have learned through blog posts, online articles like this one, teaching others, and more. The idea is the community builder shares their experience to help others either not make the same mistakes, or look at a problem differently and consider other solutions.
Why write this article?
I wanted to give a short overview of each of the AWS announcements with some expert reactions in order to assess the advantages of new developments in the AWS stack.

Whats New In Data: re:invent Andy Jassy Keynote
It's a different experience this year. The chat with my teammates is a mixture of discussion about new features and pictures of good times in Vegas from previous re:Invent conferences.
Andy Jassy has finished the first keynote of 2020 and I was not disappointed. Lots of great new features that we have use cases for.
Here are my favourite data related features announced during the Andy Jassy re:Invent keynote.

AWS Proton
The process of defining a service template involves the definition of cloud resources, continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines, and observability tools. AWS Proton will integrate with commonly used CI/CD pipelines and observability tools such as CodePipeline and CloudWatch. It also provides curated templates that follow AWS best practices for common use cases such as web services running on AWS Fargate or stream processing apps built on AWS Lambda.
Infrastructure teams can visualize and manage the list of service templates in the AWS Management Console.
This is what the list of templates looks like. (read full article)
