The Apple Bubble
Though Apple is a wonderfully significant and powerful company in the tech industry, as such as large company, it can have a harder time growing in proportion to its size. Apple's revenue in 2021 was $378.35 billion dollars! Apple is the first company ever to reach a market cap of $3 trillion. It's incredible how much the company is worth!
And that's one of the reasons, Apple is an inspiration to me. At the beginning of learning how to code, I looked towards Apple as a role model of sorts. But as much as I have loved my bubble growing up (MacBook Air, iPhone, Apple Watch, etc.), it was still a bubble. The connectivity of the devices was utmost useful, if and only if you had the other Apple devices. Having access to calendar apps, messages, mail, etc. day to day made some daily tasks quicker to manage. But this was only to a certain extent that could always have other workarounds.
Along with the social pressure to send out "blue text-bubbles", Apple basically requires you to always upgrade your iPhone every few years. The "sweet spot" is supposed to be 2-3 years? How about no. But if you don't, with the new software updates, the older phones will continue to slow down and lag behind. What to do...what to do...
The Android "World"
Having not looked into android phones until recently, I would love suggestions. What draws me in, personally is:
- Customization - widgets and skins
- USB type-C charging ports w fast charging
- Better values (at individuals' discretion)
- Manufactured by many different companies
- The multitask window
- Expandable memory
Etc. etc. You get the point.
At the moment, I have my eyes on the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra, Google Pixel 6 Pro, and OnePlus 9 Pro. Absolutely gorgeous phones. In love with the camera specs.
Having recently switched to Linux, the concept of having more control over my technology and being able to bring my personality into the tools I use day-to-day is something I would definitely opt. for.
I lean towards not only making technology easily accessible for every person (great values for great tech), but also providing a personalized experience to each individual. After all, we aren't the computers or devices that we use. Our personality and character should shine through.
