Things I learned:
Use the debugger to run my projects, and trace code line by line from the get go.. don't waste time running, then debugging.. debug the code even if it's working
Use lots of logging
Use lots of asserts (or better alternatives) to catch errors in your code
Unit tests
The bug is your enemy you must seek it out.
