I work as a junior infosec engineer, an all-round tech enthusiast trying to transition into the amazing realm of DevOps. Finally, things are starting to make just a little more sense now, but I have a long way to go.
Currently learning: Linux, jenkins declarative scripting, DevOps SDLC concepts in general, docker, K8s, Terraform.
I'm very new to programming, so here because I'm searching to learn how compute thinking works and how can I "marry" the multiple aspects of IT for my career. Quite a tough challenge and I hope we can help each other.

Hi everyone! I just graduated from a coding bootcamp to be a fullstack developer, and I wanted to join just to get myself in the world of programming and computer science as I head into the field. I know I still have a LOT to learn, and I was wondering if anyone had any general tips to be productive, or any tips for anything really!
In my studies I worked with Python, C#, Javascript, HTML/CSS, and SQL. I enjoyed the C# course the most, but I need to keep on practicing a lot more. Haven't taken a look around too much yet, but glad to be here!

I am an undergrad student i have started coding this year, this jan I will complete my one year learning about programming in general. From my post experience I can't really do something whole heartedly for many days but during past one year there's not a single day I have felt that I should do something else āŗļøāŗļø. I am still pretty enthusiastic about different aspects of programming in general from 3d designing using threejs to machine learning using python. But i guess I need to focus my attention to some areas this new year.
So this year I will be learning about rust and continue doing projects in python and if i got time will try some some 3d website making (I really love those site of Bruno Simonā¤ļøā¤ļø want to make a kick-ass website just like him ).
Really looking forward to my journey and being part of this amazing community to learn about industry more and it's best practices šš.

Iām currently in the process of procuring my Azure fundamentals certification to find employment in the technology arena. Iāve worked in a couple of tech roles prior, and found that the helpdesk wasnāt where I needed to be. So, my goal is to get into a junior role where I can learn from the pros and move up the ladder. Iām a self taught web developer. I worked my first software engineering job for 3 years and was just laid off in December so am actively looking for new opportunities.
My story:
While I was teaching myself web development, I was working full time at computer repair shop as the inventory and procurement lead where I had the opportunity to develop a suite of scripts that would mimic user actions in their self-built PHP web portal. I had no idea what I was doing but I learned SQL and my scripts grew in complexity and robustness to where they were integrated with the Google Sheets API so my inventory team could provide input to the scripts that would then automate lengthy order processing tasks. The team loved how much easier this made their work and I got so much fulfillment out of being able to streamline the teamās efficiency. This really sparked my passion for what could be accomplished with code!
I learned a great deal during the 3 years of my first job in the industry, but I donāt feel like my 3 years of experience would be comparable to most. I spent a great deal of time working on tasks that didnāt challenge me or facilitate growth, such as site content updates or digital asset tagging. At some point I realized that this was on me, not advocating for myself. I saw much more growth in 2022. I had a great year with some big wins and was on track for a promotion, but instead, was laid off along with the highly skilled and hugely productive senior on our team. Some of the business verticals were seeing layoffs but our Corp Tech/Employee Experience group was assured they wouldnāt be making any cuts. I was one of 5 out of 250.
Iām not the most attractive candidate on paper, I donāt have a portfolio of work to showcase, but Iām keeping my head up and am excited for what lies ahead! If youāre going through something similar, donāt give up! You got this!

Hello! Iām a software engineer with 20 years in. I donāt even know what ātypeā really applies. Probably frontend most recently, but Iāve been backend, full stack, systems, embedded, and even a little data science. Iāve never really blogged or journaled.
I recently realized that somehow I have lost the ability to enjoy the creative process for itself. Actually, sometimes it feels like I forgot how to have fun. I used to paint and draw, experiment with baking recipes, write short stories, play the piano, and do small carpentry projects. But now, everything I do has to be with a solid goal in mind, must achieve something, and is a waste of time if it isnāt functional. I have panic attacks when I try to do any of those afore mentioned creative endeavors.
So, Iāve decided to take up a new hobby doing something Iāve always imagined doing: game dev. Itās new and is adjacent enough to my day job that itās a little less anxiety inducing, but it also combined some of those other hobbies. As part of that, Iām keeping a dev log, which I hope will keep me a little accountable, and maybe will generate some interest. Or not :). Iām trying not to be too goal oriented here!

I'm currently an Infrastructure Architect at AWS, with a bit of a focus on security.
My background prior to moving to cloud engineering is enterprise windows SysAdmin mixed with enterprise vulnerability management. Now, I have all three AWS associate certs, the Security Specialty Cert, and the Adv Networking cert.
I'm pretty new to programming and Linux., and my interest in DevOps lies primarily with implementing security policy as code, and security inline to CICD processes.
With that focus in mind, I'm currently working on my two Pro level certs, as well as learning Python. A couple of prep guides pointed me here, so here I am.

Hello, various worlds! (I've now moved past "Hello, World!" in several different programming languages.) I don't consider myself much of a software "developer." I'm more of a software "hobbyist" at this point. I retired from software technical writing 14 years ago and have recently gotten interested again in software development as a way to help keep my aging brain alert, alive, and open to learning. So, I am now in the process of learning how to work with several different software languages and frameworks. I also occasionally write online reviews of beginner-level and intermediate-level software books. Another part of my learning process is to find relatively easy software projects, try them out, and figure out how to make minor modifications that work. I jump from one thing to another as my interests change. Over the New Year holiday, for example, I learned how to work with SvelteKit 1.0 (Vite_Svelte) and then built an app and a component using how-to guides that a developer posted online. I may look next for another Svelte project, or I may decide to tinker some more with C# or Haskell or Rust or Spring Boot or....?
Of course, I also have a life, a family, and other interests, including writing novels and screenplays, and finding time for my longest-running hobby: ham radio.
I am happy to find this site and glad that I am able to join in. I can already see that DEV will be helpful to my learning experiences. In return, I'm not sure how helpful I can be to others. But perhaps I have some skills that might be useful.

I've had the pleasure of working with a slew of smarts over the years. I started off with a background in computer engineering but slowly transitioned to Software Engineering.
My passion revolves around the Linux ecosystem as evident in the several posts i've published in the past including those on TecMint.com, and FossMint.com which i co-founded with citations across the web including Wikipedia.
I went ahead with the launch of a platform dedicated to Google's Chrome OS and its users, ItsChromeOS.com in 2018, with a quick follow up of WPWakanda, LLC's launch in 2019.
I'm also an artist with over 2 decades of experience and currently reinventing that identity to match a global audience with a global network of dancers - brkin.com - and while some of my interests may seem divorced from one another, I bask in the potential of their combination for our long term initiative as a company.
I'm delighted to now actively participate in a developer exclusive community I've known for a while now and to that note, we're currently working on a SaaS "cr8.ai" based on a conversational web experience and I can't wait to share what else comes after.
